The big Coronavirus thread

I was due to sing in my first post-lockdon concert next weekend. The new rules here meant we would need to either have a Covid passport or upload a photo and details of a negative lateral flow. This resulted in quite a few choir members refusing to take part as it is a breech of their civil liberties etc. (even though I think they are all double jabbed and most have had a booster) to the extent we weren't sure if we'd have sufficient numbers. We have now had to call it off as several choir members have tested positive this week.
Argh, and sorry to hear that, on several levels. I'm keeping fingers crossed for my Holst Planets next Saturday, not least as we've pretty much sold out Exeter Cathedral.0 -

True, as we all know - people really enjoy catching a bad cold.Pross said:
Ah that's OK then.Ncovidius said:
There are other things about too. If they’re sneezing, it’s probably not Covid.kingstongraham said:Am on a train and someone has got on coughing, sneezing and spluttering, not wearing a mask.
What do you do? Other than move away, obviously.
What is in people's brains??0 -
If we go back early in this thread there were discussions on what the long term positives of the pandemic might be. People with optimistic that it would result in more people walking or cycling with less traffic, people thinking more of others and the acceptance of not going into work when unwell. It hasn't taken long for most people to resort to type and be selfish twunts again.kingstongraham said:

Also, for a little realism, the Zoe study looking at main symptoms for fully vaccinated people who have covid 19, they are:
Runny nose
Headache
Sneezing
Sore throat
Persistent cough
https://covid.joinzoe.com/post/new-top-5-covid-symptoms#part_1
This is very different to the symptoms reported for unvaccinated people.0 -
Yeah it feels like I know a lot of people who've had the same symptoms and half are testing positive with the rest seemingly having the current 'supercold'. I've had a tickley cough for over a month now with numerous negative lateral flows plus two negative PCR tests whilst others who have had what appears to be the same thing had Covid.0

I’ve been run down with flu like symptoms this week, starting to get better now. Have taken three LFTs since Sunday eve, all negative, so am pretty sure it is a heavy cold rather than Covid.0

Unbelievably, there are other bugs out there at the moment.kingstonian said:I’ve been run down with flu like symptoms this week, starting to get better now. Have taken three LFTs since Sunday eve, all negative, so am pretty sure it is a heavy cold rather than Covid.

The big defining symptom for Covid, seems to be complete loss of taste and / or smell.0

Every single person I know, who’s actually had Covid-19 has had this ( very obvious) symptom. It’s what flagged it in my colleague the other night. Whether you like it or not, it’s a very common, defining symptom, it’s also pretty much unique to Covid-19.darkhairedlord said:

I know at least a dozen people who've had Covid and only one has mentioned loss of taste. You're making things up again.0

Yeah, but it got reactions, to be fair.0 -
You forgot to say 'pants on fire'. I'm not sure your reposte will win any debating competitions without that. I wonder what's next "yo' mama"?1

The Nickbot seems to be having an episode. Best just to switch it off.0

When all 3 of us in our family caught Covid in late August, none of us lost our sense of taste.
You lose your sense of smell when your nose is bunged up or running like a tap.0 -
Cases ticked up today. Presumably the impact of half-term ending.0

Hmm, not sure what's going on - at my school, very few cases, but it does seem to be spreading rapidly amongst older folk this week, judging by Facebook friends' posts...

I suspect that figures like this are behind the government's announcement that boosters are going to be given from 5 months now.

Possibly - and/or older people getting slack at the same time as the vaccine efficacy wears off, darker evenings meaning more time indoors in pubs & restaurants, and cooler weather meaning people are closing windows and doors.0
