I know a lot of people have a go at me for my bubble (TBF to me I don't pretend otherwise), but chat like this makes me think others are no better!

Lol this is the first firm I have worked for with someone who is dedicated HR (and it is literally only one person) and they are absolutely not incentivised to do anything other than the bidding for senior management, so complaining would be actually counter productive.

You suck it up and navigate it as best you can.

Modern world, lads. This is the tory world everyone dreamed of or something.

I think I agree with Rick :# If you need HR for anything other than mundane stuff like cycle scheme or missing pay then its probably best to keep quiet and look for another job.

    Sort of.

Either way, I think it's a bit of a d!ck move to go into the office when 2/3rds of your home are confirmed positive covid cases *right now*.

Have you discussed with your union rep?
    H&S rep?
lol. Where do you think I work. I have never worked in a firm with any of that.
Do they follow Health and Safety Legislation? They have to consult with employees on issues relating to H&S.

    If you can, do.
    If you can't do, teach.
    If you can't teach, consult.
If you can't consult then get some job in HR.

So as per above the law is says the boss can come in if he’s passing the tests and he’s double jabbed, regardless of the home situation.

It's not the modern world, it sounds like they are breaching all sorts of legal duties. I work for a small company but the Directors are very keen to make sure they comply with all employer legal requirements. They used to seek third party advice when we were really small and the roles got split amongst senior staff (I drew the short straw and got H&S) but within the last 12 months we have appointed someone to manage all that side of things so that we can concentrate on the more technical work again.

It sounds like you work for a right bunch of chancers and they'll get found out one day. Someone will take them to a tribunal and they'll get smashed for not having the necessary policies and procedures in place.
  • Somebody on my team asked HR if they got paid commission in their notice period, I know this because they rang to tell me before she got back to her desk.

Lol guys it isn’t a factory, no one is unionised, it’s fine, I told him I thought he was being stupid and it’s stopped me going in.

I like the idea of a recruitment firm having an HR department.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I haven't worked in a Unionised environment for about 25 years. These things are nothing to do with Unionisation, they are good business practices / legal requirements. If you're happy working for a bunch of chancers that ignore employment and / or H&S law then fine but you seem to complain about it a lot for someone who says it is "fine".

Agree that they are just good business practices. Any firm not sensibly considering the implications of this scenario are pretty short sighted.
  • In other news, a colleague of mine in Edinburgh (female, in her early 40’s, double jabbed) came down with Covid symptoms last Thursday, did a PCR test and received a positive result Friday morning. Covid had swept through her household, she thought she had avoided it but it caught up with her in the end.

What she found surprising was that the gap between other family members displaying any symptoms and her developing symptoms was >10 days, so longer than the self isolation period in place until recently. Also, she was surprised at just how terrible she is feeling after being double jabbed - I had a brief conversation with her yesterday afternoon which was her 6th day of symptoms and she was feeling no better.

No it stands for half wit.

PCR test though shirley, not some lateral flow. Hopefully not self administered through the post.

Text yesterday for flu jab and Corona booster jab at same time. Looks as if the booster roll out is on it's way.

NB. It did state "if available" after the Corona Booster Jab part of the text.

As far as I'm aware if this is in England, boss is encouraged to do a PCR test but not obligatory, boss only has to isolate if they have at least one of the three principal symptoms or if they return a positive PCR test.

If not showing symptoms and a positive Lateral Flow test, boss can go into work while waiting for PCR test result.

... The current England rules are nuts!

  • I’m up in London today. It’s interesting how things are going here at present. There’s no requirement for a governmuzzle, except on the TFL services ( bus, tube, tram ). Quite a few people are still wearing them outside of the legally mandated areas. Equally, lots of people aren’t wearing them on the legally mandated areas. I know some will be exempted, but I doubt it’s as many as I’ve seen thus far. I choose not to wear one outside of the really crammed in areas on the tube, and everyone is free to make their own decisions. I’ve not seen anyone being bolloxed for not wearing one on the tube yet. I’m wearing one down there just as a courtesy to anyone who may be clinically vulnerable really, but I was told that it’s still the law to do so on these services. I guess it’s up to the non wearers to take the risk of getting fined ( or whatever happens ). I’m not bothered by the actual fact that they’re not muzzling up, I’ve never agreed with mandating it, but if it’s the law, I don’t fancy having to pony up a fine for not doing so.

It's not a governmuzzle, the government have made it pretty clear that they don't give a fudge if you don't wear a mask.

Still quite funny though even if untrue. It's like the memes you see in social media - 90% of people only share them to get a rise out of others.

  • I just had an interesting time. I was on the tube up to Liverpool Street, as I was meeting up with someone in Jack the Ripper’s local. I’d had enough of wearing the gimp mask, so took it off. Then I spotted a COLP who looked like a shaved, albino, Gorilla, giving me the stink eye. I popped the muzzle back on, because I thought it might not end well if I didn’t.

    23. Old enough to know nothing, including what he doesn't know, or how disappointed he's going to be how his life turns out in the end.
