  • It's a nice gilet. They do vary quite widely in price. Rapha a bit more, the Assos one considerably more. Chapeau have positioned themselves at the upper end in relation to the jackets and gilets they sell, all pretty normal.

I think I am going to send the Fawesome back, I think the lack of pockets is going to put me off it, and I'm not sure it is suitably different enough to the Galibier one, which does have rear pockets.

Would the Fawesome not suit your neds BTR?

Oh and yes, well remembered, Red should not be found on any cycle clothing, bike or bike parts, UNLESS the bike is completely red.
Manufactures do have an obsession with splashing red all over their components too, does my head in.

Yeah, I would only really go black for the bottom half, but for the tops, my colour choices would be red, blue, yellow, orange, green, white and then last of all black. There would need to be a seriously compelling reason why I couldnt do without a bit of kit to make me buy black...

With you on the yellow, green, blue and maybe orange at a push :-)

How are you going to go fast if you aren't wearing any red? I've done all my fastest times on Strava while wearing red. QED.

That jacket would be good if it was red.

I'm not keen on the fawesome mostly because of what it's made out of. Which makes it a favourite of everyone else. I want a rain jacket type, which is what the Chapeau and Galibier are. The G is a bit fussy overall and I like the Chapeau aesthetic.

(and I see the womens jacket is a different colour anyway !)

I'm not buying a black rainjacket for crappy weather.

and from the photos and description, I don't think it has any reflective elements. Not ideal for this time of year.

Are there no plans for a Mossa gilet?

There appears to be a thin feint pipe on each arm and the dhb logo might be as well. Not good enough though.

Just received some dhb flashlight tights. Aside from the fact the name sounds like a male sex toy they seem decent, although I was maybe expecting them to be a bit thicker.

Ridiculously, I am wearing small dhb tights with a large castelli jersey!

I'm after a gilet and have held off as nothing seems smart enough/good looking. This might fit the bill though.

Almost perfect, but doesn't seem to have any rear pockets, so off the list.

Know of anyone making a Windtex Gilet?
  • Bugger, it looked like there as a rear pocket on one side. Hmm. Still like it mind

  • The Gore AS gilet has a front zipped pocket, 2 rear pockets and side entry to access jersey pockets.

You don't want pockets where you are, things get nicked out of them whilst you're on the move.

It does, provided you google it correctly as the AS moniker is simply active shell. The element does, for example, £70 or so and quite attractive, but the Oxygen does not. Indeed, you pay more (RRP) for less pockets.

Many years ago, when I first started out, I owned a Gore Concept (i think) gilet. It had a pump built into the shoulder and you blew up panels all over the front to insulate. Worked as well, if weird.

In Motherwell, they prefer a gentle stroll.

I tried, but old Stoaty McStoat tried to jump through the wheel. Poor Stoaty.

Ach mun! I'm not in Motherwell, I live in the Borders and the stoat walking incident was witnessed in Midlothian.

Surely the Galibier on the previous page?
Our final fabric is only 1.1mm thick, but will survive seasons of headwinds, line outs and the pointed backs of cafe chairs.

We are sincerely marketing this as: never be cold again, for you or your Stoats. The German fabric has fantastic thermal retention and weather battling properties. This will keep you and your stoats warm as a top layer in deep winter, or over a racing jersey during long, autumn evening descents.
*Includes 3 capacious rear Stoat storage pockets (RSSP)

There are twelve 5* reviews on that page too, and only £47.

Guess you could have a look at this one from Ground Effect, same material on the back as the front.

Looks perfect, as does a lot of their range and I see that they use Polartec powershield in some of their jackets

More Gillet's, some with Stoat capacity, some without in Bob Shop (now you have your work cut out BTR):

    http://www.bobshop.com/en/Men-s/Cycling-Vests/

Wind Gillet in white for the anti black winter jackets/clothing with no reflective material or nought seeable brigade (to which I fully concur). It's dark, why be dark in the darkness? The inside of coffins are dark. Mine is going to have strip lighting and a Stoat flap but that's beside the point.

    http://www.bobshop.com/en/Men-s/Cycling ... white.html

Personally, I prefer bigger zipped pockets in a Gillet or a jacket. I don't see the point in tiny zipped pockets that you can't fit a mobile phone and some keys or a squirming stoat in it. The Castelli Alpha jacket pockets are too small and too high up the back. Unless I shorten my arms or have a third elbow fitted, the stitching will continue to snap (I can hear them) until I can reach in.

    Slightly off topic:

800 ml clear water bottle from Wiggle (you could fit your Stoat in it):

    Pro_bottle_800ml.jpg?w=200&h=200&a=7

Can anyone explain why my link (vai an app) to Wiggle shows up prices in Kroner?!
