Why is he so keen to stay there? It's hardly HTC where he was the number one man and everything was built around him. I don't think he gets any more assistance there than he did at Sky. I guess the problem is that, other than Giant Alpecin, no teams are really building themselves for sprint wins at the moment and GA already have Kittel and Degenkolb.
The management I would say. Holm and those guys.
Just not Peeters0 -

He has said many a time that he loves being at EQS... There certainly seems good bond and team spirit in the camp there... I think some forget how important that can be... and you say that they haven't built around him... They brought in half his HTC train, in Tony martin and Mark Renshaw, to lead him out...
Lets face it... It is not as if he hasn't earned himself a pretty penny already so I would imagine that his next contract will see him to an age where he might struggle to get a decent move afterwards... With the likes of Kittel, Sagan, Greipel and Degenkolb on the scene as well, his ability to command sprints is lessening every year...0 -

Where else would a top sprinter whose main targets are MSR and TdF go? The teams that are prepared to go to the Tour built around a sprinter have got top sprinters already. The ones that aren't he wants no part of.
Off the top of my head, I can only think of Orica as a possible destination. Noone else will give him the team resources he wants.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -

Interesting possibility. Though doesn't Cav have a pretty close relationship with Specialized?0 -
He might also be at a stage in his life/career where upheaval is best avoided if possible.0

Stybar confirmed for another two years at E-QS0

That's one explanation that does make sense and is completely understandable.0 -

Any news on Cav's contract?0 -
ITV TdF rest day show, in their transfer news, mentioned MTN as a destination for Cav if EQS didn't renew.
Would be a great move from MTN's perspective, but for Cav? How grounded that move is in reality I don't know, or was it based on last year when it looked like MTN were signing up everyone who wanted to resurrect their careers?0 -

Already prepared to accept a salary cut to stay at EQS it seems. And that's when Pat L thought he'd win 5 stages in the Tour, so....
Why would he accept a cut if he were to win 5 stages (wishful thinking regardless with this year's parcours)? That makes no sense.
He wants to stay at QS and they can't afford to pay him the same again.

It's his love of Dutch language mix CDs and hotel room karaoke. That goes a long way."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Considering EQS were expecting Cav to come away for this year's tour with 5 wins, and he has 1 to his name so far... With no obvious other sprint finishes, all he can do is keep plugging away at the intermediates and hope for the best on the Champs Elysee (which I think is another 50, 30, 20 points split...???)...
Would just winning the final day be enough??? Does he need the Green Jersey to cement his contract...?
I for one would love to see him stay at EQS as I think he still has a lot to offer, and IMO is developing into more of a team rider... You never used to see him pulling the peloton along at the front... Thought his ride in the National road champs was outstanding as well...0 -

Just look at his nego with De Gendt 2 years ago."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Yup.
Lefevre is more moneyball than sky are.
Moneyball implies he looks for assets undervalued by the market and exploits the markets inefficiency rather than the commodities (if I may refer to riders that way).
Take the De Gendt example. His team folded, he was 6 months into his first decent contract which he had to sue to get anything from, talking about going and getting a real job to pay the mortgage when he'd finished 4th in the Giro 12 months previously... LeFevre waits until December then picks him up for the UCI minimum wage.
He's basically Lom Driessens or Giancarlo Ferretti or Gianni Savio with a huge budget he chooses to spend on two or three stars."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Strange post (no more sprint finishes?). Cav has never really targeted green and this year is no exception. I never saw anything about EQS saying they could win all the sprint stages.0 -

I don't see an expectation of him winning all 5 sprint stages. He'll be hungry for the Champs elysees again and that difficult one, but has to freelance more. Do what he did when he won the last stage he won...
Lefevre comes across as a manager that has all these assetts that he never quite maximises because of his ego. ergo he never had a proper sprint train for cav that was as dominant as the HTC one, his classic results this year have been a mess because of his reliance on the wrong guys at the wrong time. EQS reliance on Boonen when he's been even slightly out of form, and Terpstra (because he's Terpstra and literally no one likes him!). despite this they've still been successful. but not as good as they could have been.
He needs to take a look at himself.0 -

Apart from signing cross riders on skimpy contracts that pay 12 months of the year rather than 5, I'm not sure how. But I'm willing to learn"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I havent said there are no more sprints... I have said there are no more 'obvious' sprints, looking at the profiles of the the remaining 'non' mountain stages (except the final day of course)... There might be sprints if the bunch can drag in breakaways and Cav et al can stay with the bunch... However all the 'obvious' sprint days are now done...
I was thinking more that if Cav did plug away to win Green, it would add to his bargaining power come contract talks... Not necessarily that he was targeting it from the off... I don't recall one sprinter this year saying they 'want' Green... Just they will see what happens...
With reference to the 5 wins, I read somewhere that this was the expectation for EQS... This could be just a regurgitation of something I read on here tho, so maybe that is not quite true... However, I would have thought that they expected Cav to have more than the solitary 1 win under his belt at this point...0 -

I was referring to back when he didn't want quite as much money. Thought it sounds like he wanted a fair bit then too... http://inrng.com/2010/03/sagan-and-quickstep/0 -
Picked up Her Nieuwdblad on the way home... Cavs agent was supposed to meet Pat yesterday but Pat was "too busy". Classic negotiation tactic. Pat says he'll see him on the second rest day, sticking point is Cav wants 3 years at the same money as Pat wants to give him for 2.
In other news, Stybar has a new 2 year deal, Edward Theuns going to Trek next year along with the new Belgian champ, meaning Jelle Wallys will sign with Lotto, where Jens Debeusschere has just got a new 3 year deal."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

That's pretty shoddy having one's salary negotiations leaked to the press.0 -

Excellent... glad for Wallys...0 -
Rumour mentioned on Sporza: a new Danish team, managed by Holm, with Cav as rider0

And Nibali being told to find a new team by Astana.0

Geert Steegmans knocks it on the head immediately. Trek Factory Racing's switchboard immediately blocked with calls from everyone on Topsport."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"
