You must be feeling the benefits of being nigh on 21 kg's lighter?

Yep. Mainly in general wellbeing tbh. On the bike I'm certainly quicker (though pulled a sub 5h30 Ridelondon time at 133kg so wasn't particularly sluggish).

The game is most definitely on on the way home tonight though!
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?

After a Summer of weight stubbornly refusing to move, I'm finally getting somewhere (76 to 76.5kg range over the last week). Could be something to do with finishing with the beta blockers and changing exercise habits since the start of Sept. I found that I wasn't going out unless I had time for a big ride/run, so changed to doing (and recording) something everyday, even if it's only a ten minute high tempo bike ride or a 30 min brisk walk. It seems to have worked, and I managed to fit in my fastest half-marathon time three weeks into the new regime. The only days I haven't recorded activity is when I'm gardening (2 days out of 27 so far).

I've heard that cleat screws that are too long can really spoil your ride and put you off.

Starting to get weight back off. Using holiday to get some exercise done.

Incidentally I weighed 76.0 when I got up yesterday, weighed myself after a ride and weighed 75.0. BMI is creeping down to the "magic" 25 (currently 25.4)

Some not so healthy eating means I did go back up to 65, but mostly hovering around 64\64.5 - some bad eating habits have been creeping in - hitting the turbo hard though, so with an increased focus on what I am eating, I think I can get back down.
Wondering how much of a challenge the winter period and Christmas will be, with all of those goodies around, and we normally get gifted biscuits and chocolates galore :?
Good test for the will power I guess.

Anyone have any tactics for this?

First year I am making a proper conscious effort to eat healthily, instead of simply eating whatever is before me..... in large quantities.

I am going to limit the 'goodies' to just the Lidl Deluxe Christmas Cake. I can put a slab of it in my back pocket and go pedalling with an extra grin on my face. It is, by far, the best Xmas cake you can buy. Better than the over rich M&S job.
...and before anyone tries to argue with me, i'm very experienced in this matter.
It is the goodie to end all goodies and my reasoning is that you won't want anything else; not even Xmas pud or Xmas dinner or breakfast or lunch...

Pinno - I can't find that post you made about energy bars of sorts, I recall you said they were from Lidl, but was unable to locate any, I did see some similar gluten free, which I bought (And shouldn't have done) from Aldi which had a very similar calorie content to that which you mentioned, but not sure if they were the same, or in fact you meant Aldi?
IIRC, it was something like Dark chocolate and peanut butter, and one was Dark Chocolate and sea salt.
If it was Lidl, wonder if it was just a one off special thing - failed to locate a 'gluten free' section if such a thing exists in the stores.

They weren't labelled as 'energy bars'. They were labelled as snack bars. I think they have discontinued them* and they were from Lidl.
    *I hope not

When I get back later, i'll see if I can find them online.

Thankyou - ah indeed, sorry I didn't mean to say you had said they were energy bars, but I think you referred them to as good high calrie bars whilst you were out on the bike.

The Aldi ones are 4 packs - I am unable to find them online, will take some pics when I get back - in case the other ones are now dead and buried.

So went to Hong Kong (3 nights) and Australia for 2 weeks, drank beer, ate lots of dim sum, chips and fish and didn't out on any weight!

    Boom.

I did do a lot of walking whilst out there though.

I struggled with my 16:8 diet due to my Inability to resist late night snacking. Solution - don't start eating until 2:00 or 3:00pm. Then the eight hours window closes at 10 or 11. It seems to be working. I run or cycle at lunch time. Hopefully I can get through Christmas with this method.

In my opinion, replacement is a good way to deal with this. Replace cake, cookies and bisquits with something healthier like dried fruit (try different ones, you might find ones you like), peanut butter, honey etc - but still watch the amounts. If you truly are unable to put down that spoon in time, activity replacement is in order. Try many different things untill something you really enjoy doing - carpentry, chess club, yoga, software development, playing music instrument, and evenings will fly by. You will wonder where did all that time go and laugh at mountains of sugar and fat you did not consume.
Booze is a big one. Not sure how'd people ditch that habit so never dared to pick it it up myself.

I've (almost completely) stopped buying booze to drink at home. It's a couple of nights a month now, and a single bottle of cider or a mini bottle of wine. Opening a full wine bottle is fatal.

I've just cut down my drinking to Fri and Sat alone it makes a massive difference. That and cutting down on breakfast.

Oh, I'm below 69kg so I'm into bonus territory for the next few months.

I'm going to add my experience for the past ten months on here.

I've been cycling as part of my commute since January: a mere 1.5mile cycle from home to the nearest train station, 15min train ride and a mere 0.5mile cycle to work place. Total of 4mile cycle and £4.70 return ticket a day. That's 20mile + £23.50 per week. No change in weight. Drink 2 - 3x week, occasional snacking on chocolates and biscuits at work.
    70-72KG, 24.2-24.9BMI

Since July, I've been pondering and experimenting less train time and more cycle time. For 3-4x week I decided to get off 2 - 3 stations earlier and cycle the rest. Increased to 15mile cycle and £3.15 a day. 45-75mile + £17.30 - 18.20 per week. Some weight loss, but not much because my apetite has increased due to the increased cycling time. Still drinking 2 - 3x week, bit more cocholate / buiscuit snacking, but mentally justifying that I "need energy" for cycling (not the right thing to do!).
    69-71KG, 23.8-24.5BMI

Since end of August, I've been doing 2 - 3x week whole way cycle (approx 30miles round trip) and 50/50 cycle-train as above. Weekly cycling distance has gone up to 105-120miles + train fare £6.30 - 9.45. I'm munching alot more and frequently at work, but look after what I munch on. I just buy a bag of mixed nuts from Lidl and have a handful now and then. That seems to stop my cravings for anything simple sugar and nasty. Weight loss - 2KG and steady. 68-69KG, 23.5-23.8BMI

What I also noticed, echoing the comments already posted, is that I'm not keen on drinking alcohol during the week because I'm cycling alot more. After a night of drinking I wake up with fuzzy head which I can't deal with if I'm cycling the whole way. So naturally, the more I cycle the more I cut on drinking. I only drink on Fri & Sat night now and just a pint is enough to make me happy.

And recording my commute on STRAVA helps me with motivation!

The 16:8 sounds pretty dramatic - not sure if I could manage that, perhaps on some days though.
if it works for you as it clearly does, then all power to you.

I think mamil314 is correct re replacement - I have been mostly eating muesli and bran flakes as a snack, or a bigger bowl if I am more hungry, with some skimmed milk - maybe not as good for you, but I also have a jam sandwich or crut with no spread as well - or peanut butter without spread too - no need I find once you get used to it.

Re the drinking - in our household we very rarely drink on school nights, unless it's a works night out or something, but in general it is only the weekend, or rather just Friday and Saturday nights - I also find the more I cycle, the less alcohol I feel I need, so kind of a win\win.

Ta, these are the ones I thought you might have referred to, but as couldn't find the posting, the only real siilarity was the shape of them, and the lack of gluten.

Fairplay defever, that's some dedicated reserch you have done there, and you walk way with an end result.

Yesterday I also had a bad eating day, 3 bits of cake, and a load of biscuits - if I'm eating them, it's like I can't stop myself, it's bizarre, and a little disturbing too if I'm honest!
Partly due to sugar being addictive - the more you eat, the more you crave?

There's a few things that may help you understand the mechanics of loosing weight.

Assumption: I cycle therefore I should loose weight. Nope.

It is a simple equation of more calories burned than consumed. Your body converts carbohydrates, fats and sugars into glycogen for energy,(In extreme cases, your body will break down it's own constituents - blood proteins, muscle proteins just to maintain the minimum functioning levels of blood Glycogen. But that's extreme and we don't have to worry about that consequence, eh cyclingprop? ).
The bloodstream carries the glycogen and the liver stores quite a bit. You need a bare minimum amount of glycogen or you would simply keel over. So, the point where your body starts to run low on Glycogen is the point where your body will start to burn fat to convert to blood Glycogen. You could be sat at your desk or on the couch but this point may take time. Whilst doing exercise, obviously, this point can happen sooner.

Simples? Well, there is a minimum length of time during exercise where the point your body starts to assimilate fat. It may be quite quick during high intensity exercise: pretending to attack an imaginary Chris Froome up a mole hill or it may be a bit slower; like glass cranking along a flat road with a tailwind whilst slipstreaming Vanessa Feltz. Either way, you have to find that point where you are starting to deplete glycogen levels and go beyond that point if you hope to loose fat through exercise.

So during your short rides, all you were doing is burning Glycogen for a short period of time and then that effect will be making you hungry. So you eat afterwards at some point and it that is simply replacing the Glycogen lost to exercise. If you decide to eat much later, you are first not doing yourself any favours and secondly, in that intervening period, your body will slow your system down because it does not know when the next meal is coming*.
Women who do their 30 mins aerobic work outs are doing the same. They can go hell for leather for the duration but at no point actually burn any fat and then wonder why they are very hungry after the session, cannot resists the high calorie food stuffs and 'can't loose weight'.

*This is a key factor but will complicate this post, so I have not gone into any detail, unless asked.

There are multiple other factors - diet, lifestyle, sleep patterns, age, general condition. These factors can dictate the rate in which you may loose weight but it all boils down to that original equation of more calories burned than consumed.

All exercise can help but there's an old saying that floats around gym's - you get a flat stomach in the kitchen and abs in the gym.

Bit of a strange one for me, but also good timing in a way.
Lowest weight this weekend, with no obvious reason, and handy on Sunday, as I had a hillclimb to do, so 1.2kg less to cart up the hill than for the last one!
Also means it is the first time I have proeprly dipped below 10 stone.

Need to see if I can maintain this now, hitting the Turbo pretty hard so hopefully combined that will enable me to do so.
Also revised my target back down marginally - as would like to have a bit of leeway for fluctuations.

For a laugh (Yes I know quite how innacurate they are) I popped on my 'fat measuring' scales this morning, and it reckons I am 3.2% fat

    If only it was.

I believe I have the lung capacity of an asthmatic 73 year old lizard, who has smoked 10 of Fidel's finest cigars each day, since he was born.
