Am I feeling the cold more, because of the of fat I've lost?

I used to feel comfortable down to ~10C in shorts and T-shirt with the man cave window open, but I'm sat here currently at ~16C with a light breeze coming in, wearing my new Altura Peleton Transformer jersey to take the edge off!

I'm now back in not-so-sunny east Southampton, after getting warm on a quick blast to Sailors Lane and back a little earlier!

Please note the "~" are not "-" i.e. I was writing about approximate temps.

I think I'm genuinely feeling the cold more and getting more tolerant of temps 18C to 23C, whereas I've spent years feeling comfortable down to 10C and dying above 18C. This afternoon's blast is the first 15+ mile ride I've done for over a fortnight, so my metabolism may have been dropping a bit recently, making me feel colder.

  • I weigh 64 kgs. I have a hard time trying to gain or lose weight. I stay the same regardless. I remember losing 2 kgs about six months ago then went back to my original weight again. To me its all to do with diet. At least my bike frame can carry me wherever I go comfortably. Never having to worry about its life expectancy.

Back up to 65.8, and the week before, struggling to keep to low 65's now I am back from holiday.

Having said that, I have caned a load of cake this weekend (Daughters birthday) and other assorted nnot so good for you foods, pastry laden sausage rolls and party food etc etc, for both my daughters party and a party we had friday night as well. Also cheese cake and salted caramel tart may have been consumed - two slices of each, I can feel myself slipping, need to pull myself back up from the brink - hopefully a hard week of turbo should get me back on track.
I do have some willpower, and can utilise it really well on occasion, but my problem is that if the food is simply in front of me, and I know it needs eating.........I kind of do :?

    Fine work EL, excellent progress.

I seem to be stuck at around the high 65's, though I have a plan to try a bit of lower calorie meal planning to see if that has the desired effect - we will see. I have only printed them off today, so will take a bit of time to analyse and see what might work, and see what the outcome is.
The hill climb is one month today, so am hoping to get down to 63.5kg in that time, or at least as close as possible, currently at 65.8 I think, so only 550g per week - sounds easy, we will see.

Had some monster sessions on the turbo this week, best I have felt since my June FTP, and have also seen this represented in a few strava times when I managed to grab some time out on the real road mid week!
Planning to have a go at 'The hill' on Saturday mid morning, conditions look good. Thinking to go up it leisurely like to see how it is made up, and then maybe repeat it 5 times or so and try different cadences, all seated, some seated, some standing etc etc

So had a pretty hard but best week for a long time on the turbo, had to stop 3 times for 30 seconds on Friday afternoon, but put that down to 5 hours sleep (I normally need\get 7) a hard workout the day before, and a HOT garage, that leaving the door wide open, and two fans on full chat, could only do so much to cool down.

However, had also eaten a reasonable amount of not so good for you stuff, ice cream\choc ices etc

Managed a couple of goes at the hill on Saturday, and was not as bad as I had feared, still going to struggle to get into the top 100, but my second effort, was 12 seconds less (And was a top 20% time on the Strava segment, when was just hoping for a top 50%) than the original time I was hoping for, so with 4 weeks more training to get in, and hopefully the effect a number on ones back should in theory have, will be hoping to improve on that by 30 seconds or so.

So was hoping to maintain something around mid 65's, but came in at 64.6 (1.2kg off of last week), the lowest I have been all year, and for many years I would suspect - weighed myself 3 times to make sure it was not a false reading - so close to losing 10kg, but that has spurred me on to be extra good this week, and try and boost my power and drop my weight simultaneously - we will see - going to weigh myself in the morning in case it was some weird kind of anomaly - I did have a 64 when I was in Mauritius, but that was when I was running loads, and the heat meant I was not eating that much.
There is another hard week (for me) on the turbo scheduled this week, so perhaps that will do the trick - hoping to have another crack at the hill next weekend too.

Interestingly the low calorie diet things I have downloaded, has gotten me to look at calories, never looked into it before in any detail - I assumed, as does everyone else, that the smoothies I have for breakfasts are fairly calorific, but just totted them up using an online calculator, and the backs of packets, and each breakfast weighs in at a shade under 300 calories, which I think is pretty good, considering it keeps me going with no needs for snacks until lunchtime.
Not planning to undertake any of the XXXX Calorie diet plans wholesale, but might pick and choose some decent sounding lunches or dinners to suit.

This is the place I got it from, no idea if it is telling the truth, but just using it for some idea really:
    https://www.freedieting.com/free_diet_plans.htm

Looks like tuna with salad is also a nice tasty and low calorie lunch type option, but then we have that a fair amount anyway, and chicken seems to be a good option as well.
Have already been ramping up broccoli intake, and will continue to do so!

Nice job, don't forget to hydrate sufficiently, it's easy to botch up when shedding those pesky kilos.

For those who can be bothered to cook but don't like counting calories, proportional measuring can work. Pretty much any size plate, fill a quarter with your favourite meat like chicken, turkey, beef, whatever. Another quarter with carbs - your rice or chips or such and then half of plate with veg/greens - lettuce, spinach, broccoli, carrots etc. It's a decent method, but it's worth reminding that sauces of any kind are not taken into consideration here and should be approached with care.

Cheers mamil - good call on hydration, that could skew the results IF I am not hydrated properly.
Drink loads on exercise days, not so sure I do that well on the weekend - just in terms of volume of water.
I weighed myself the day after and was ecactly the same, weighed myself this morning and I was 63.8
Guessing that is an anomaly, will see what it is tomorrow, but if I can be stable in the 64's for a few weeks, then I reckon I can use that to lose a tiny bit more.

Chap at work gave me a tip which I tried today, twice, once it worked, and once it did not.
He said, when he felt hungry, he had a drink of water, and waited 30 minutes to see if it had passed or abated.
Rerettably this afternoon I have felt really hungry, having only finished dinner some 40 minutes ago, and after having replaced a tube on the Kona, and tinkered with those god awful mechanical disk brakes, I am hungry once again.

Going to try and wait it out, and see if I can hold off eating anything, or just not eat anything at all - or maybe some yoghurt and muesli or something.

Goooooooooooo ITB, you know it makes sense :D Feel the purn\pain\delight - delete as appropriate.

I turboed (Is that a verb?) last night, three 20 minute blocks at between 90-94% FTP, with 5 minutes rest inbetween.
Properly hard, but used a suggested trick of pretending the 2nd 20 was the last effort, and then dragged myself through the last one minnute by minute - whilst watching TOB Stage 1.
I also turboed this morning, and will do so again tomorrow lunchtime.
Away for a funeral on Thursday, and thought it might leae me in the doghouse if I suggested taking the bike, so can't ride again until Friday after work.

He gave good advice, DanielB. Take a spoon of honey with a glass of water and you should be good until meal time. It's much easier than most think to confuse thirst for hunger.

What is the relevance of the honey out of interest?

That's not too shabby though is it, and with me it took a few weeks for the momentum to kind of build up, and even the I found I kept hitting plateaus - sometimes for 6 weeks at a time, and occasionally losing focus as a result, and weight would then go back up, otherwise I stuck with it, and it would continue in the right direction eventually.
