That's like "woah, WTF?". I even changed the battery in the digital weighing scales but nope, nothing wrong with the battery. Hadn't posted my weight for a while as I had seemed to have stagnated. Now i'm doing silly things like no sugar on my Porage or cereals.
Do I quietly aim for 66kg's after I hit 67? or do I pig out on coffee and Torte...

Something I haven't seem mentioned here is something called glycogen supercompensation, it's an effect whereby following big efforts your body will take on a shit load of glycogen and water.

I will quite often seem jumps of around 2kg in bodyweight following big exhausting efforts and refeeds, I know when this has happened because my calves swell up and just pop out. It's all water and glycogen.

If I don't exercise it takes like 2-3 days for that to settle down back to my normal weight.

Is that 'glycogen supercompensation' or simply fluid retention?

    (Just playing devils advocate).

Can you offset the effect by an energy drink during rides?

In my case it's the muscles that swell up, leading them to pop out and show significant extra definition. Fluid retention as far as I know would lead to your whole leg + foot swelling up which is definitely not the case.

I've never tried drinking energy drinks on rides, only sugar free electrolytes. As I'm trying to lose weight I try and eat fewer carbs whilst cycling and tend to stay z2/z3 and then I will refeed immediately following the ride. This may have something to do with my weight gain following big rides so this might not apply to everyone.

I'm thinking along the lines of perhaps eating less when you come off the bike if you used an energy drink?

No sugar, no alcohol, lots of miles (250 last week), moderate eating, no junk food... still nothing is happening... maybe I am not fat after all... I don't feel particularly fat, but I am 3-4 kg more than last year... it can't be ALL muscle!

Get some calipers and measure your body fat.

I've been doing a ton of gym work this year and I've had months of not losing any weight on the scale but the calipers don't lie.... bodyfat is dropping like crazy and lean body mass is growing.

I haven't done anything that would grow muscle mass though... it's mostly aerobic exercise

    never meet your heros !!!!!

I experimented with pre and post dump weigh ins ..... and was so disappointed to discover poo just doesn't weigh that much ... I guess its just fibre and sweet corn with most of the water removed.

I am now perpetually saddened that when I do a massive dump, it just looks impressive, but ultimately, its a little underwhelming :|

Slowly slowly (1.6 kg though most at beginning), some improvement since about 2 weeks of morning commute
Need to look at diet more carefully for more significant changes though
    At least not going up!

one water bottle is 2lbs, surprising how many people do events with frequent places to refill but still carry two full bottles, how long does it take to lose 4lbs ....?

haha, yeh pretty sure it is not my scales - they are digital ones, always left in the same place and position - and if you get off and on, they give consistend readings - I generally zero it if I am in any doubt as well.

perhaps I'll mitigate the next 500g by just buying wheels then

one water bottle is 2lbs, surprising how many people do events with frequent places to refill but still carry two full bottles, how long does it take to lose 4lbs ....?

2lbs would be 1 litre, that's some bottle, and i thought mey 750mils were huge.

Bit of a strange one for me - 2 weeks ago I weighed 67.2, one week ago, I weighed 68.3, this week I weigh 67.1.

    Change how you weigh yourself.

Weigh yourself every day at the same time.
Take the lowest value from the previous 7 days as your 'current' weight.

Rationale being - on some days you'll be full, well rested, hungry, exhausted, hydrated or just not had a poo. They all affect the weight on the day.
Using the lowest from the previous 7 days means you'll likely always be using a day where the stars have aligned and you're at your lightest - i.e. what you actually weigh rather than your weight + variables.

Also gets you to stop focusing on natural fluctuations.

That's a good call Duncan - I always weigh myself at the same time each week, ie Sunday when I first get up, so could potentially do it every day I guess - or maybe do it every day, total them up and divide by 7 to give me an average for the week.
That does involve me remembering to do it each and every morning though.......and I don't want to get hung up on it if you know what I mean - however if it gets me to where I want to be...
I just about remember on a Sunday as it is - will give it a go though.
And if I miss a day, I can just divide by the number of days I did remember.

Not the average, the lowest ;)
You're aiming to discount the variations rather than just smooth the curve.

Personally, I think that taking the lowest weight over 7 days is a little bit spurious but I like it.

Just because a digital readout says 67.8763542 does not mean that it is 67.8763542. My mate works on a tiny oil flow rig. Sometimes. there's only 2 of them. which explains why he's a bit nuts. All of the measurements are analogue. Analogue in this instance is more accurate and more reliable than digital. There's 2 analogue meters per measuring device (flow rate, temperature, viscosity, gasses etc).

So, your 2032 battery powered scales is susceptible to the myth of 'it says 67.8763542 therefore it must be 67.8763542' and temperature change. Not that it is accurate to 7 decimal places but you get my point.

Now, I see an opportunity for scales to be linked to your Garmin/Tomtom device though. We could have a weight loss bagging competition.
