Finally got so fed up with recurrent knee problem I went to the docs. Amazingly got an appointment within 48 hours. Yet another new doctor, a rather attractive young lady. By that time the knee was perfectly fine, and despite her best efforts she couldn't make it click or make me squeal. So she initially tried to send me for self-referral physio, but I persuaded her that my symptoms were the same as I'd had in my right knee and which had been completely sorted by arthroscopic surgery. So she also agreed to refer me to a knee bloke. I made sure it was the same bloke who did the other one, and which has been fine ever since. He can see me on Thursday evening. Company medical insurance confirms they'll cover it. But not medication, apparently. They'll foot the bill for £15k worth of surgery and a private room with Sky TV, but not the inevitable painkillers or antibiotics which must cost just pence... What's that all about???

Anyway, I'm hoping he'll agree to operate. He's an orthopaedic surgeon, he's hardly going to prescribe just painkillers and physio. It's like asking Kwik-Fit if you need new tyres. He's going to want to snip and trim and reshape and hoover. And I'm going to prescribe myself plenty of cycling as rehab :D

So I may return to the weight loss thread once I'm able to ride again...

Glad to see you've got this going forward, I hate the "its not bad now, nothing doing" from the GP's after waiting 2 weeks to get an appointment. I've been tempted to try and pay for an MRI the moment my knee plays up so I know "exactly" what is going on.
Odd about the medication etc, but at least that's only going to be NHS prescription charges, although they can add up.
Good luck with it all - hope it goes to plan, and get back on the bike soon.

I have a feeling, that I may get away with it - as most of it is around my tum you see, so am hoping that will reduce, of course if it doesn't, then you may well be right.
A lot of my bibs are technically too small for me a bit, as I have to go smaller so the straps are tight enough, so they might then fit me perfectly, and a fair amount of the jerseys are fine around the chest, but a bit snug around my tum.
63 may be a bridge too far - 67.0kg was my original aim (And is my fighting weight), but just looking to get faster up hills, so suspect 66 or 65 may have to do - we will see.

As an aside, is there any interest, or opposition to people sharing their methods on here, ie exercise frequency, food they are eating, etc etc?
Thought it might be useful and give people ideas to try out if they know it has worked for someone else.

I don't think so, there has been some discussions ( mostly telling me I eat too much chocolate & cake ( but never combined)), but there is also the "Training, Fitness and Health" subforum... viewforum.php?f=40011

Now you're opening up a can of worms.

My problem recently is that I am renovating a house, top to bottom. It can be cold and physically hard work. There's no energy left at the end of the day to pedal so I take 'days off' to cycle and I have been eating lots of pastries and I have bulked up - my upper body strength has increased but it's mainly muscle and muscle is heavy. I have prepared better snacks but in that environment, you hanker for some serious carbs.
Despite that, I have and I am always actively looking to reduce the silly stuff, the amount of Marmalade I have on my toast, the number of white coffees I have (1 a day and 1 espresso before a ride) and reaching for fruit instead. So the weight loss is occurring, all be it slowly. By mid summer (love the good weather), i'll have knocked off the weight.

BMI of 22.7. For my height and weight, it's actually ideal:

I just make it up as I go along.

    So BMI: your first reading
    NOW: your next reading ??

Obviously, the two will be the same on your first entry until you next calculate it.
If there's a flaw in that idea, let me know - we'll tinker with it.
My thinking is that whilst an individual might have a target weight, BMI can suggest what a 'healthy weight' is for a given height and age and the two might not be mutually concurrent.
Therefore, is healthy more important than your desired weight hypothetically? Are certain individuals trying to achieve not only the impossible but the unnecessary? Just one or two rhetorical questions.

I heard that he went to the doctors who told him he had 30% body fat.

Given that we all know that the human body is 70% water that technically makes him a Tesco Value Sausage!

I don't do BMI. I've been "beaten" with it for years, and if I ever get down into the "ideal" category I'll actually be dangerously underweight.
    Might work for others though.

It is a crock really, much like your max HR is 220 minus your age :?

Growing up I was ALWAYS told I was underweight, but eventually one nurse I met asked me the question of whether I had ever been any heavier. On telling her no, she agreed that that was clearly the weight I was designed to operate at.

Since then, with age, and eating too much cr@p I have put on easily a stone and a half, or 10kg or so, very easy to get complacent, especially when you are younger and can get away with it, it literally does creep up on you.

Had a good chuckle at the comments regarding eating habits and suggestions, no worries at all, I will not pollute the thread :-)

alcohol and coffee, not mixed together. Needs removing and replacing with a cool prosthetic but the op goes through the front of the neck, huge scar and possibility of potential nerve damage to the face.

sticking with my method until further notice

Ouch, none of that sounds much fun. Fair play on keeping going.

I wore a size small Rapha jersey today. Probably for the first time in 18 months.

I probably looked like a badly stuffed sausage, but that's not a new thing.

so it would seem the difference for me in having 3 double chins and small B cup vs 1 chin and a sporty A is about 3lbs

personally i prefer the B, not the chins mind.

2 (Not packs of) chocolate digestives, and 4 macaroons this week, but still lost some weight - delighted.
*All other meals were consumed as normal, that wasn't my entire weeks intake :D

Over half way now, probably where it will start getting a lot more tricky, having said that, I reckon the hard work will start now.
