    being ill for the last week and half seems to have helped ... I feel I have eaten more and exercised less ... yet dropped 2lbs

    Up 0.1kg this week. A bit of a runaround week with my other half in hospital and visiting hours coinciding with school runs. So my 18/6 diet got stretched to 15/9 on some days and abandoned on others. Also very little in theway ofexercise.

    not looking forward to this weeks weigh in .... the weekend I just crashed, no energy did half my cycling I would normally do, didn't make the gym this morning and ate a load of crisps, cake and junk !

    ah well, its probably good to have a weekend off every now and again #

    just a shame it takes all week to cut back 3500kcal and only 2 meals to over eat by that much :D

    The weather is set for windy. If I loose a whole load of weight, then i'll get blown away in the wind and i'll have to get the bus home which will cost and then i'll have to bear the brunt of "Where have you been?" (again) type of questions and so loosing weight will be uneconomical, bad for family relations and crashing into lamp posts/sheep.stone dykes is not good for my health.

    Steady progress for me was interrupted by a week of evening meals out during a training course causing a nearly full reset. Todays weigh in is hopefully accurate but may well be due to a bit of dehydration following a weekend of exercise

  • 2 weeks off bike and felt like crap, ate lots of biscuits, scared to weigh myself again, feel like it's gonna be up a bit!
  • Decided to set up my own nutrition spreadsheet where I track everything that I eat during the day.

    Of course I needed something to benchmark my results against so used one of those fancy calorie intake calculators online. Not the most accurate thing in the world, I know, but at least it gives a good starting indication.

    Was amazed to find out I am not even close to hitting any of the recommended daily intake values (protein,fat,carbs,fiber).

    Time to re-evaluate the diet, although I was losing about a kilo per week since start of January (apparently through starving myself - not ideal).

    That was yesterday morning before a 4 hour meeting with chocolate biscuits / confectionery, and donuts / various mini-bites today. And my left knee is keeping me off the bike, as will the possibility of ice in the next few days. The only exercise I can look forward to is a bit of light keyboard / mouse work and some grouting. :(

    @ Cyclingprop; you still need to check your maths. If your target is 117 kg I make it 26kg to go not 36. Much more achievable!

    It almost certainly needs more meniscal surgery, but I'm also worried that the b@stard orthopaedic surgeon who last did the other one, will be proved right and I'll be needing a partial joint replacement too.

    I've had three lots of keyhole cartilage surgery and the results have been good and the recovery quick and relatively painless. But I'm 60 this year and not relishing the prospect of being sliced open properly / hacked about with masonry tools.

    I should bite the bullet really while I'm still working and have the private medical cover. Rest and ibuprofen is just making me fat and grumpy and any improvement is only brief and temporary.

    Have you talked to or know anyone who's had a total knee replacement? Better still, do you know of cyclists with TKR's.

    Only step-mother-in-law, and she's a sedentary, overweight, 80 year old chain-smoker, and her NHS TKR didn't go well. Hospital acquired infection, swelling that would've disturbed the elephant man, unmanageable pain and very slow recovery not helped by her immobility / reluctance to do the physio.

    And I think that's the problem. I'm googling and finding more tales of things that went wrong than quick recovery and successful outcomes. I'll phone the docs and get an appointment, kick the process off. Hopefully I only need the medial part replacing...

    My mum had one done and and yes the swelling was epic (because she had waited a long time to get it done and they had to do some fairly major re-alignment at the same time) but she has stuck with the physio and it does seem to be coming along nicely. Not sure she would be riding a bike yet as it has impacted her ability to fully bend the knee although that is also improving.

    Not exactly what you want to hear but at least not a complete nightmare scenario ;)
