I'm doing terribly at the moment. Really struggling to budget calories and manage the commute, I either undershoot by a mile and struggle to get home or eat too much crap and can't shift the weight. I think I'm where I attempted to start from, +/- some tenths of a lb.
Shift lunch back a bit later, or spread it out?
I've binned the customary 2nd breakfast unless I'm at the gym at lunch. Have then been starting the still fairly big lunch at 12 but eating it in stages, as 12, 2 and 4pm.

I have to agree, i've only dropped half of your loss and can tell the difference when spinning up the hills.
Man, it's difficult not to have that extra chicken breast in the evening, still not used to walking around half hungry.

Also, noticed a curious thing - a relatively low but well timed calorie intake can help perform much better. On a last club run through Surrey hills, i ate an extra banana between hills and a gel towards the end and was able to spin uphill and back home much harder than usual, burning 4400kcal instead of 2700. It would seem that fasting and riding is not the way.

As for the chicken breast... if it's only grilled or pan fried there's probably 150-200 calories in it, I wouldn't worry too much about it either

My weight has been stable for the last month and I've been riding hard for four months but today I got my arse handed to me on a plate on the club ride, doesn't matter about weight I just can't deal with really strong wind it just cuts me in half.

Weight loss at a certain level is a bit of a waste of time IMO

I don't believe the calory numbers to be correct, but i feel this is indicative of general expenditure, as on that occasion i was going much quicker uphill, lost almost another kilo of weight/liquid (i like weighing myself before and after longer ride ) even if drinking the same two 710mil bottles as usual. Far from scientific, of course.
I also wonder, when dropping weight, is there an effort level to be avoided? And also, balancing decent recovery while maintaining negative calory intake? And another - am i overthinking?

Wind is not fun for anyone. I, for example, try to go to drops, tuck in elbows, go to spinnier gear and find that pain lessens somewhat. New thing for me to aim for will be stepping up eating on a bike discipline. Such a basic thing that i've been getting wrong! And it could make a difference between enjoyable workout up hill or a bloody torture.

Weight loss is a waste of time? What is taking up time, other than enjoying the usual bike riding? Or you mean switching from fast food to cooking healthy or such?

Funnily enough yesterday I did 100Km and felt very good in the wind, much better than usual. I haven't felt this good on a bike since 2010, when, coincidence, I was about the weight I am now... extra Kg have always made me feel slow and tired

Last week included NO cycling and 8 straight days of entertaining clients - result 2.5kg gain. Not happy - all losses wiped out and now heavier than at beginning of year

Progress. I seem to be able to fluctuate +/- 2kg pretty easily at the moment - this is, however, the first time I've ever made a concerted effort to lose weight, so I might be imagining it and simply weighing myself at random times.

A weekly Sunday evening weigh in is probably the best way to go from now on...

Well I've just had 3 weeks off the bike courtesy too much work and of a nasty bout of flu, but neither gained nor lost weight. Brief experimental ride on Sunday evening left me coughing myself inside out, but no other ill effects, so I reckon I'm good to go. Hoping the return to activity will shift the last 3 pounds of Christmas podge.

Can't believe how many sub 80kg riders there are out there, you freakin' lightweights! (literally)

I didn't join this but did my own weight loss program anyway.

Mid-November last year I hit my heaviest ever at bang on 14 stone (89kg's). Not the worst thing for a 51 year old 6'2" male but I wan't happy so decided to go on the carb-free diet that my eldest son (aged 24) had been following.

Boy, was it tough, I was still commuting 200km a week and on no carbs, that is tough especially if you recall November was really windy. One evening heading home SW I was head on into a 40mph wind and I swear I nearly got off and cried.

But I pushed on through and lost a stone (7kg) in two weeks to take me down to 13st or 82kg's.

I've started eating carbs again but much less than I was before and managed to maintain it at 13st 4lb which suits me fine and means if I want to drop to under 13st for the summer mountains (I take my boys and our road bikes to follow Le Tour in ze mountains every year) then it's eminently doable.

already noticed how much better I feel even in tame old Surrey.

I'm bang on 80kg at the moment which is pretty light for me, particularly at this time of year. Not quite sure how as I haven't been consciously watching my diet and training has been pretty minimal. Its probably for the best that my weight is down as my power is pretty feeble at the moment, managed just outside top 20 on coast to peak of Teide Strava segment last week, goes to show that losing a few kg does help compensate for being in otherwise **** condition!

Even though I am p!ssed off at putting on 5 lbs over a week of drinking and no-cycling - I am still dead chuffed that the last time I was around this weight I was a teenager. I think I am close to the lowest I can go without a real change in lifestyle, a dramatic rise in miles, or moving to a part of the world with hills. At the least alteration in the regimen I put on a few pounds seemingly overnight. As the weather gets nicer I am pretty certain I can hit and maintain my target weight - but I am not sure it will be sustainable once long rides at the weekend become less enticing.
