  • I'm in!

    Start: 154lbs (1/1/15)
    Goal: 138lbs
    Now: 147lbs

    I lost three stone about five years ago to get to my goal weight but a stone crept back on last Autumn (had medical treatment and had to give up exercise, which sucked!). Now on a mission.

    I use MyFitnessPal. I originally lost weight with Weight Watchers but their system is just calorie counting, which is free with MFP. Only got it set to lose 1lb a week as I'm happy to do it slowly and be less hungry. ;)

    Back on the bike and have taken up running again. I was a regular runner until about four years ago when a foot injury stopped me but giving it another go.

    So I'm:

    - biking to work three days a week (only 4 miles each way)
    - doing a ride at weekends (20-30 miles)
    - running 5k two or three times a week

    And on 1,280 net calories a day (food less exercise-earned cals = 1,280).

    I tried myFitnesspal once. It told me with my current weight and commuting by bike that I could of eaten twice as much and still lose weight. It lied. Maybe the algorithm has improved since then.

  • I put in my weight and that I was inactive all day (desk job). I add the commute as it is (32 mins of 'cycling, 12-14mph'), eat those cals I get for it, and I'm losing weight. :)

    I think it's about right (maybe it's better for women than men??) as when I switched from Weight Watchers to MFP, I could eat exactly the same daily diet within my calorie (rather than points) allowance.

    There are threads on the MFP forums about the exercise cals, with some people saying they're overstated and you can't eat everything you earn. Everyone's different and I lose weight slowly but steadily eating my basic cals plus earned ones. Some people only eat some of their earned exercise cals and some eat none. I'd be passing out if I didn't eat any of them! And to me it makes sense to eat more on days that I exercise than days that I don't.

    One day a week I bike to work and do a 5k run in my lunch hour. Then I get pizza for dinner. :D

    ive also gone the wrong way this week, but i think i know whats wrong and im going to counteract it and work seriously hard this week and adapt to what my body is telling me.

    Likewise I know why but can't be arsed to do much about it, I also know that 50% of my recent turbo sessions are being wasted sub Zone 1.

    i was bloated on my weigh in yesterday, which is one of the issues of only really taking note of the weekly weigh in but should allow for fluctuations but doesnt help if i eat a lot of a tuesday/wednesday night.

    today is a more accurate weight of 78.7 which is a drop from last week.

    i've also ordered some extra products from the protein works.

    my other problem is i've been eating like i was last winter for my previous weight drop which is probably unnecessary as my activity levels are far below that of last winter due to my injury. so this week i'm experimenting with dropping some of the meals i have so i'm going to go from 6 down to 4.

    82.6kg this morning which was a nice surprise - race weight last season was 82kg off the back of a lot of hard work, so far this year I have been pretty lazy and have been out drinking twice this week. If I can actually kick the training into gear I might actually be able to get into something like decent shape...
  • Got down to 83.1kg at my last weigh in, which, from 89kg I'm pretty proud of. I think I'm done with the hardcore dieting, but I'll see if I can slowly lose a little more.

    Not sure how to use the table, but I have been doing the 5:2 diet for 4 weeks and cycling an average of 75 miles a week. So far I have lost about half a stone, starting weight 15 stone 10 lbs. My goal is 14 stone.

    5:2 seems pretty sustainable and keeps me off the sauce. If I cycle (25 miles) to work on a fast day I tend to give myself a couple of extra hundred calories, but it is not too hard to still cycle surprisingly.

    Maybe a bit of public scrutiny will get me over the final hurdle, up 1.8kg from my lightest and 4.8kg to go. Really upped the mileage in the last 3 months, but finding it hard not to eat everything in sight and keep my energy level up.

    Haven't been able to do much recently due to a combination of a knee injury, travel and now a chest infection but have still managed to drop another 0.5kg. Once this bug goes I should be able to knuckle down again.
