I reseated the bars on the good advice of others on this forum much to the concern of my lower vertebrae.
Having not been training for nearly a week I got a chance to take the Equilibrium on a fast 100k club spin over the weekend. As someone who struggles hard from time to time to not get dropped on the hills I was concerned about the impact of switching my Focus Izalco Pro 3.0 to the heavier winter equipped steel Genesis.
All I can say is that I am amazed at how well this bike rides, the Tiagra is smooth and the frame is both forgiving and responsive. I had no trouble keeping up with the group and welcomed the compact on the hills. Much as I enjoy my fleet I question the benefit of multiple bikes at my level, for sportives and general club training rides you could get away with the Equilibrium as your only bike.0 -
I might also add that there is little benefit to choosing the 105 equipped 20 over the 10 now Tiagra has gone to 10 speed especially if you don't mind the shifters. Better off spending the extra upgrading the wheels & saddle.0

^ This - exactly what I've done. Except that it also acts as my commuter. I've got a carbon frame in the attic, in a box and an old commuter in the shed with no wheels.0 -
Help, I need some new pads, f+r, what should I be getting.
My main aim is to be able to stop efficiently in the wet.

I believe the two favourite choices are Koolstop Salmon and SwissStop Green.
#1 Brompton S2L Raw Lacquer, Leather Mudflaps
#2 Boeris Italia race steel
#3 Scott CR1 SL
#4 Trek 1.1 commuter
#5 Peugeot Grand Tourer (Tandem)0 -

Build done. Now I need to find some time - and OK weather (no mudguards yet) - for a test ride

Kool Stop Dual Compound pads were fitted straight away as I do not trust Tektro pads, they wore out the rims on another bike in really quick time.
Was it these pads?

I need to replace the Tektro pads on my Genesis (Tektro BR358 57 mm).
Cheers

On mine first I replace pad with cartridge shoe and pads off eBay, then the pads with swisstop green, then eventually these http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-t ... himbrar360 @ £54.60 for the pair it's a very good price for what are effectively Ultegra level brakes. Standard pads they come with are fine, but when worn an upgrade to Swissstop green or similar is worth it. The difference between the shimano 650 and the standard callipers is huge and worth the investment. I wish I hadn't wasted money upgrading shoes and pads first.......
Fitted these new brakes yesterday tested great on club run today. Thanks.0 -

Seen one in this colour outside in the sunshine before the 9am start of the Dartmoor Devil, it looked nice in a very coppery sort of way. Chatted with the owner and his mate on a white Croix de Fer before the start.
It would seem the paint is as thin and fragile as ever, which is annoying when you compare it with the finish on a four years old Claud Butler Dalesman frame that I picked up second hand with a few scratches on the top tube. Unlike the Genesis, this frame made in Taiwan under a brand name of Falcon bicycles (so not exactly high end) has a nice thick clear coat over the base, so the marks have not penetrated the base colour and will probably buff out with T-Cut, or respond well to a dab of clear lacquer followed by cutting compound. Genesis paint is more like nail polish IMO.
The Devil claimed my silver Chromoplastic rear mudguard so I have replaced with black Bontrager NCS mudguards (cheap from bike shop as they had been returned by a previous customer). Shiny black guards definitely look rather nicer with Cherry red as well.0 -
Hi All,
Please see my post on a swap request for a 54cm Equilibrium - I have a new 56cm 00 to trade:

Hey fellow Equilibrium riders, I have a lovely 2012 Equilibrium 10. I've just noticed that the 2013 models are specced out with different Brakes, namely Tektron R317 rather than the R359 ones that came on the 2012 models. Anyone know the difference? The Brakes are not one of the Equilibriums strong points, so I'd be surprised if they have downgraded them.0

I have a 2012 Equilibrium 10, Tiagra 4600, I have upgraded the wheels to Open Pro / 105, the finishing kit to Ritchey Carbon / WCS and the saddle to a Pro Logo Scratch. Its fitted with full SKS chromos and looks rather smart.
A nearly new Ultegra 6700 Compact Chainset has just come up for sale at 50% off discounted retail @ €115.
I have to say I love the look of the Ultegra 6700 the design & manufacturing of this part is superb but the Tiagra 4600 isn't too bad either especially considering this is a winter steed. The Tiagra C/set will be sold leaving the change net €80 or so.
Am I nuts changing, where does all this end??0 -

Naturally it all ends in madness and bankruptcy, but it's great fun. Anyway, I've always though the Tiagra 4600 chainset looks a little, erm, agricultural. (Mine has the 4500, which is no oil painting I'll grant you.)0 -

The Koolstops had to go due to having developed a serious lag in response in wet conditions, but to be fair the water clearing channels were completely worn away. It was reassuring to find almost no metal or grit particles embedded in the blocks, only one very tiny bit in one of them, hope the SwissStops are as good in this respect.0 -
I'm back in the game for a 54cm Equilibrium. It's going to be used as a commuter and winter bike. If anyone knows of a 2nd hand one, let me know. Spec isn't overly important, although Tiagra minimum would be preferred as I dont like Sora.0

Just out of interest, any fellow Equilibrium riders notice the back wheel flex when riding out of the saddle? I know it's almost certainly the wheel, but I thought I'd ask.0

Yeah, instinctively I know it has to be wheel flex. They're hand built Open Pros laced with no more than 28 spokes (can't quite remember exactly what and I'm nowhere near the bike right now). I'm 85kgs on a good day, too. It's not that big a deal, but I should probably have gone for a tighter spoked rear wheel.0 -

No not here. 18st of me doesn't flex the back. I have 32 hole rigida dp18s on Ultegra hubs... My guess is it's your wheels--
