I recently bought an Equilibrium Stainless Steel (non-disc). Only taken it for a couple of short rides, but very pleased so far
It's a lovely looking thing in the metal (at least to my mind) and rides very nicely. It seems stiffer and more responsive than the 725 tubed Disc 20 that I test rode; that is still a great bike though and that test ride was enough to convince me to buy an Equilibrium of some description.
Here are 3 pics, just from an iPhone, but hopefully capturing how the bike looks in different light.

I am in need of some advice for sorting my brakes out. I have a 2014 Equilibrium 20 (the orange one) with crap tektro brakes. I bought some swissstop pads without realising the brake shoes and pad is one unit. Is it possible to buy brake shoes that will fit on to the tektro caliper??0

Hopefully I'm not too late on this reply - I actually had the same question. Either the 5800 or 6800 ones work perfectly.0 -

Just wanted to mention to fellow Equilibrium (2013) owners that the PDW metal fenders mentioned a couple of weeks ago on the bargains thread fit really well and I recommend them. I run with the Shimano 650 brakes too, and they work brilliantly with them.
Goodbye SKS. Honestly they are inferior compared to the metal ones and an adjustment nuisance compared to a simply allan key tweak.0 -

Post an update in a year or so, if you would. I used to have some lovely Giles Berthoud stainless steel ones that rattled themselves to pieces after six months. The metal just didn't have the elasticity to hold together. I generally get nearer two years out of chromoplastics.0 -

Hi,
I'm looking for someone to convince me on the Equilibrium.
I've had a Surly Cross Check for a few years, but these days 99% of my riding is on the road, the children are too big to put in a child seat on the rack, and realistically I'm never going to change it to single speed. So recently I've been thinking it's time to move to something a bit lighter and more fun to ride on the road.
I'd still want something of a "do-it-all" bike and preferably still in steel, so the Equilibrium seems like a good choice.
But after a very brief test ride in a business park, I'm still not 100% convinced that it will feel different enough to the Cross Check to justify the cost, especially if I put lighter wheels and tyres on the Cross Check (currently Deore/Mavic A319s and 32mm Marathon Supremes).
I'm fairly sure I'd notice the difference on the open road, and especially up hills - but looking for someone to confirm this for me! I'd probably go for the disc brakes.
Anyone out there with experience of both bikes?
Thanks.0 -
Could anyone recommend a good upgrade of wheels on an equilibrium 20, looking at;
Mavic Ksyrium Elite
Pave 28 Ultra
Thanks for any suggestions!0 -
I run Ksyriums on a different bike. They are excellent. On my Equilibrium I have Mavic Open Pro rims on Dura Ace hubs. Been very good for me and a bit cheaper than the Mavics when I bought them.FCN 3 / 40

I'm currently lurking on a good deal for an Equilibrium frameset that I want to build as my winter bike. However, I'm hesitating between the XS and the Small. The geo chart is confusing me by saying that the top tube for the small is 54 and 52 for the XS.
I'm 5'4 with an inseam of 77cm and ride a Bowman 52 and a Caad8 in 54. What would you recommend? This is for the non-disc version by the way.
Thanks!0 -

Genesis were good enough to replace the complete bike under warranty on a RRP vs RRP basis. This means that I now have a shiny new 2017 Equilibrium Disc 30 sat in the garage.
Just thought it worth mentioning here, as a big credit to Genesis for properly honouring a warranty.2011 Giant Escape 1

Hadn’t realise there was a whole topic devoted to Equilibriums!
Does anyone know what the paint code or colour match for the metallic orange 2013 model is? Had the seatpost seize on mine and looks like it will need removing and repairing0 -
Hi!
Anyone experience chainrub on the seat stay when shifting the smallest cassette cogs? Specifically the 2015 Equilibrium 20 with 13-29t Campagnolo 10-speed cassette? On mine it rubs slightly when shifting from 13 to 14, and has rubbed all the way down to bare metal, and even some of that. Tried with a 12-25 cassette, but still rubs. Can I fix this somehow (without spacing out the rear axle) or is it just really bad design?

Just finished mine ,still needs a few bits and bobs to finish it off but rides lovely.
