Ok, discounted this on the basis that it will be five years old next year and the price seems high considering below.
As 2012 Tiagra is as good as 105 and I have two sets of new wheels (Askiums or Open Pros w 105) available I managed to pick up a new 10 today for £710 delivered. Looking forward to steel & having a properly set up winter bike that I won't be fiddling with lights, raceblades etc.0 -
For anyone who fancies one of those early 853 models, there's a frame, fork and extras in 54 on Ebay at the moment. I have to say, I think it looks a lot cooler than the modern incarnations.
There's also a brand new 2012 58 20 at a very good BIN price of £8000 -
Ordered the frameset from ukbikesdepot.com. Looking forward to building it up!0

So I'm tempted to buy the blue equilibrium and upgrade the wheels and groupset,
My only worry is that the front fork isn't carbon, has anyone got any experience with the chromo fork? What is the weight difference?0 -

Where abouts did you find the 10 for £710??0 -

Why not just buy the proper frame and forks and then build it up yourself, it'll surely be less faff and you wont end up with a load of shite finishing kit.0 -

I can buy the 00 for for just over £500, sell the sora and wheels for around £150ish so the rest of the bike will only cost about £350 and I can upgrade the other components as and when I have the spare cash.0 -

There apparently is a blemish on the top tube. I bought it thinking it was a one off but they still have them listed.0 -

Mark__gti, You're following my line of thoughts. I just did the same thing last June, i.e., bought a 00 in nice blue and upgraded the groupset to 105 and the wheels to Open Pros laced around 105 hubs. I ended up spending the same sum as I would've spent on Equilibrium 20 but got the Soras and wheels as extra. Of course, the excess parts are close to being crap but they're just fine for being used in a second hand reserve bike to take you to a bar and back home.
When it comes to the steel fork, I've got no complaints. It performs just like any other steel fork you see on older steel frames. I presume that switching to carbon would make the steering a bit more nimble as the front becomes lighter. I haven't tried the carbon one, though, so you should take my words with a grain of salt. Personally I'm happy with the chromo fork.0 -
One more thing. I've taken the chromo fork downhill at 70-75 km/h (~45mph) on less than perfect tarmac and felt confident all the time. Based on this and the 4000km I've covered during the last four months I can recommend the steel fork unless you're looking for weight savings.0

looks like we may have a contender to the Equilibrium, ribble are kicking out a Reynolds 525 frame with rack and guard mounts. looks quite tidy and nimble but lacking info so far....

What do you think?AKA Captain Blackbeard
Going Top to Bottom - E2E for Everyman and Headway - Spet 20130 -
From the pictures on the webstie it looks like a more "traditional" 73seat tube/73 headtube approach.
Dopouts arent as nice
Rack mounts are probably a plus
Only 525 tubing so possibly a touch heavier
Internal headset - good idea!
Down tube looks to thin and noodly.0 -
Pretty much with you on all points there.
I also think the build up above doesnt add anything to the prospect. had it been built with cleaner/plainer component and wheel set it would probably look a lot classier....and red tyres have no place here.AKA Captain Blackbeard

So i think im going to order the new 20 but im unsure on sizing,
Is there anyone here that is 5 ft 7 ? if so are you riding a 52 or 54?
my currant bike is a 52 spesh allez.0 -
I went for the 54, after much deliberation, as the reach was almost exactly the same as my previous bike. There's only about 7mm difference between the two I seem to think. Comfortable for me. (I'm 5'7" short leg, longer body)0

I ride a size 54 equilibrium and I am 5'8" with 32 inseam.
The top-tube of the size 54 equilibrium is 54.5 cm which is longer than that of your 52 Spesh allez. Therefore you will be more stretched.
You need to consider that the head tube of the equilibrium is about the same as that of the allez.... Size for size.

Tonye_n have you measured that tt yourself? It's just I'm thinking of the frame/fork combo & on the Genesis site they show the 54 has a 54.5 virtual tt? So I was assuming the actual tt would actually be a bit shorter by 20-30mm. Comparing it to the bike I have which is a 53.5 tt & a virtual tt of approx 56.5 (with the same head/seat angles) that actually suggests the 56 is the same virtual as mine.
Or is it that Genesis shows the geo pic as being the virtual but infact it's the actual tt length.
I'm really fussy about the tt length (long legged/short torso) and don't want to buy too long a frame and I can't demo before buying.0 -
@ Salsa, the 54 has a VTT of 545mm (horizontal) The actual top tube is (about) 525, measuring from the centre of the seat tube to centre of headtube. The Genesis website does show the seat tube height incorrectly though0
-
The 'Virtual' is the one that matters because it gives the distance from seapost to head tube i.e determines the reach from which you can calculate the stem length required etc. That's why they measure it that way, if they gave the actual measurement only you'd need a formula based on the degree of top tube slope to calculate the reach.0
-
Cheers woodnut/jessand, I think I'll risk a 54 then and play abut with stem length if needed 8)
It was just tonye_n's reply threw me a bit, I got the idea the actual tt was 54.5 not virtual 54.5 as in the geo chart, thanks for the clarification on that.0 -
Ok the 10 arrived yesterday, all well and I'm pleased so far. The service from UK bikes depot has been 100% excellent. The bike was a soiled display model and cost £699 + delivery. A sizeable discount considering the damage consisted only of a chip of paint 1mm round with no denting. Easily touched up.
The 4600 Tiagra is smooth, the bike is light. I have changed the wheels to Askiums, the seatpost to carbon and the saddle to Prologo (because I have them). Just waiting on a new set of black SKS chromo plastics. Looking forward to getting it out for its first 100k.0 -

Yes I have measured this my self. The vtt is about 54.5cm, and that is the relevant dimension in use. The length by which you will be stretched when ridding. The actual top tube length is not the relevant one.
I was thinking of converting my flatbar road bike to drops. As such I measured every dimension of the geometry of both bikes. I wanted to replicate the fit of my Equilibrium.0 -

Sweet! First tomato soup orange one I've seen! Enjoy!0 -

I'm not crazy about the colour TBH, I would've preferred a "real" orange. Maybe it'll grow on me!
About the headset: UKbikesdepot sell the framesets with the headset fitted for 20 pounds extra, about half the retail price of said headset (M:Part Elite) from what I gather. Cheap enough for me to risk it.
I'm sure the Campag Record headset's much nicer though0 -

Does anyone know of the width of the handlebars on the 56" genesis 10 and also what are the fattest wheels I can fit without fouling.
thanks0
