Hi Equilibrium riders,
I am currently riding a Genesis Aether, which is the Alu version of the Equilibrium. I love the bike, but I have decided to go steel... 'cos I want the bike to last for eternity
Anyway, I think the frame and fork are exactly the same in terms of geometry and so my question is:
can I just buy the Equilibrium frame and move all the components from my Aether to the Equilibrium?
Would everything be compatible?
and the othe question is... if I decided to move from a 54cm to a 52cm would all the components still be compatible?
Thanks
EDIT: I forgot the 3rd question... my carbon forks are grey and I don't think the would look nice with the fast cherry red of the Equilibrium. Can carbon forks be re-painted?0 -

Hi there,
Firstly, since the materials are different, I would imagine that the tube diameters would be likely to be different, this would mean you'd need a new seat-post, front mech/clamp and a seat clamp. The rest would fit. It could be that the tubes are the same, in which case everything would fit. Same with the different size.
Don't know about the 3rd question, I would imagine so, though.0 -

Thank you for the reply UndercoverElephant, I'll check that out with my LBS... I think the frame is the exact same though..
@woodnut is it that difficult? uhm... I'll start looking and see if a size 52 shows up somewhere. Thanks0 -
re. bottle cages. Checked out the 54cm Aether (same geometry as the Equilibrium, but aluminium). The seat tube bottle cages were both above the front mech band.
Checked with the shop, who weren't surprised ("Yeah, some <bikes?> are like that...you need some spacers..."). Nothing from Genesis yet either. BUT, rather than make an issue of it, and remembering that some bikes are indeed like that, I thought I'd look at what can be done.
So far, it seems:
1) Spacers.
2) Bottle cage with no lower rails, like the Tacx Tayo
...are the options. I'll see what works and report back0 -
Fixed with the aid of those Presta valve lock rings, of which I'm sure everyone has a few million rolling around the bottom of the toolkit0

Not sure if people are still looking for frames, but as they seem to be hard to come by at the mo i thought i would bring your attention to this

Just had mine delivered today. Now I have my old alu camel and my new 725 equilibrium standing in the office garage. Guess which one I'm going to ride back home tonight? 8)0

Well done Adebisi!
Do give it a once over to check everything is nice and tight, but enjoy the ride!0 -
anybody know where to get replacement bar tape? I can't seem to find the same stuff and I prefer it to the other tapes i've had.0

Nope. Not sure what genesis use. You can get Fizik Microtex stuff that looks very similar, feels great and is easy to keep clean, however.0 -

There are a few niggles though.
The brakes certainly didn't feel too powerful even though the tarmac was drier than a bedouin's sandals. I must admit that I do not have too much experience on road bikes as this far I've been riding a custom hybrid with Shimano LX v-brakes and a 29er with hydraulic discs both of which give superb stopping power in all conditions. But still... I do not even dare to think how the Tektros will perform once it gets wet. And yes, I checked their mounting and that they're properly set up but found nothing out of order. Maybe, changing the brake pads will help? I might even see if I'm able to use the LX pads...
Secondly, the wheels will have to go eventually. Basically they felt ok, but just ok is not enough when everything else is great. However, the that will have to wait a little more.0 -

Will look into this, thanks.0 -
I'm a proud owner, Cherry red - beautiful! It's not really the cherry red the old ones were, it's metallic and looks fabulous in the light. Just to add my bit on the bottle cages (I've got a 54), I had the same reaction as most - amazed. Surprisingly though, when I tried to fit my Tortec Alloy cage I only needed 1 standard thin washer to enable it to clear the mech (which is chorus). Have look at the tortec cages, quite light, nice looking and seem to have been made for bikes with bottle cage mounts in strange places!0

I will post, as soon as I've cut the steerer and got the bar tape on. She doesn't look her best at the moment although she's riding wonderfully. I can't quite decide on the tape, I'm thinking about the fizik glossy red - but want to see it in the flesh and decide whether the colour's right. My original thinking was black tape to go with the saddle and using black mudguards too but if I can find the right red tape I'll go with that - and probably silver guards. I've gone silver with the headset, bars, stem and seatclamp so I'll probably continue that theme.0

What is the setback on a genesis equilbirum black seatpost. I have got a brooks saddle comming and I don't think it will have enough setback. I need too look for another one and would like to know how much more I will get in mm.0

I've had the 650s fitted quite a noticeable difference..l very happy with stopping power now.....--

Just hit the first century ride on my Equilibrium today. There were no major bumps or any other obstacles on the way but both wheels were bent out of shape, badly. I guess the stock wheels just weren't built properly...
The ride was great, though0 -
Sounds like a good reason for a new set of wheels to me.0

I'm inclined to believe that the components themselves are of decent quality. To me this is primarily a sign of sloppy wheel building instead. Luckily, this time it didn't result in anything else but a couple an hour spent on spinning a spoke wrench. I've already had new wheels in mind before but it looks like I just might get them earlier than I intended if the wheels lose their shape again and rebuilding them doesn't help either.
I have two options
Fancy and loud
Mavic Open Pros + Hope Pro III hubs
Budget and silent
Mavic Open Pros + Shimano 105 hubs0 -

Bit of a long shot this one, but is there anyone with an Equilibrium in the North East who would be willing to give me a go? I'm trying to find a demo somewhere but its hard enough trying to find a stockist with a bike in stock, nevermind a Demo bike! I'm coming from a Boardman Comp but dont want to be buying something which I dont like. I either go the way of an Equilibrium (to match my MTB) or go for something like a CAAD9 or 10 for a racier ride.
The complaint with my Boardman is the unforgiving ride, although it is certainly no slouch when it comes to putting the power down.0 -

Can't help with the being in the NE thing, I'm afraid, but I will just say that you perhaps need to consider what you want the new bike for. An Equilibrium will definitely give you a more comfortable ride than your Boardman without becoming boring in the process, but it won't be as stiff or as light as either of the two Cannondales. If you want an out and out speed machine then maybe don't go for the Equilibrium. If you want a very comfortable, do-it-all machine that goes exactly where you point it and will make you grin from ear-to-ear, then take a punt, I've yet to meet anyone who regretted doing so.0
