You could just get a 10, they come in 10speed now (tiagra) so you could just upgrade parts as needed. As a plus they also come with carbon forks.0

I need to find somewhere to try one out. Having had a Boardman Comp for 18 months, I'm tempted to sell it to buy one of these. The Boardman feels fairly brisk (not tried any other road bikes though), but its an uncomfortable ride. I've got a Genesis Core MTB and I'm very, very impressed by its build quality. Rides lovely too.0

adebisi wrote:Just for reference, bike24.com parts itself from a complete 105 groupset for 490€ (375 £) and a RS10 wheelset for 110€ (85 £). The price difference between a 20 and a 00 roughly 520 euros (400 £). In other words, a complete Sora groupset + a Shimano 2200 wheelset for 80 € (60 £). I find that rather reasonable.
All this boils down to one question. Is the Genesis chromo fork worth anything?
I also spent some time speccing and speculating a bossible build for a Equilibrium frameset. I ended up with more or less the same price (1635€ = 1257£) for a scratchbuild and complete bikes (assuming the same pair of wheels). All prices below are in mainland currency. Sorry about that.

OK, now let's have a look:adebisi wrote:Spacers: BBB UltraSpace Carbon Spacerset BHP-35 14,50
I got my spacers for a couple of quid off eBay.adebisi wrote:Gruppo: Shimano 105 469,00

Sell the original 105 brakes, you've made back the cost of the new ones.adebisi wrote:Brake cable set: Shimano Dura Ace 7900 PTFE Brake Cable Set white 24,90

I'm sure you could save cash here. Some Jagwire outers and some cables cost about £15adebisi wrote:QRs: Zipp Aero Quick Releases Set Stainless Steel 39,95
Expensive choice, especially as Shimano wheels usually come with some.adebisi wrote:Pedals: Shimano PD-A520 SPD-Pedal 33,90
Full-build wouldn't come with pedals, so this shouldn't count.
All in all, you could knock at least €170 off the full-build cost, and you'd end up with a better saddle, bars, stem, brakes, headset etc. I know what I'd do...0 -

The full build does come with shimano pd-m505 spd pedals. Well the 01 & 20 models do.0 -
I know from recent experience that the framesets are quite hard to source at the mo (depending what size you are after), many shops have completely sold out.
I eventually got a 20 and I'm very happy with it, 105 is great. I HATED the saddle and I'm not convinced RS10's are right for this bike (though wouldn't say they are poor wheels at all). Apart from that all the parts seem perfectly fine to me.
Adebisi, I don't think yours is a bad plan, as long as you are sure you'll actually use the Sora groupset and wheels etc.
As for the fork, maybe you could just view it as another future upgrade ( the one that Jonny T has fitted looks good).0 -

Just seen Ribble are doing the Deda Black Rain for £75.00. I've no idea how it compares to the standard Equilibrium carbon fork, but I think it's beefier profile suits the oversized tubes of the frame.
I considered Adebisi's idea at one stage, but then there was only the Equilibrium 10 available when I bought my frame and that would have been an even greater expense.
With judicious shopping I reckon you could make a killer Equilibrium for way less than the off-the-peg 20.0 -

Looks like whoever built my frame had a bad day and put a template on upside down (bottle bolts)! It rides beautifully so I reckon everything else is ok.
Ha! Collected mine today, got it home and found the same fault! Must be an iffy batch. Will enquire about getting it sorted (frame swap?) as it'd be a PITA running one cage for long rides in the heat...0 -
^^^^^Will be interested in what happens!. TBH I can't be bothered to do anything about it, I'm sure I could fettle a way to get another cage on, and I always carry a rucksack anyway.
I noticed one on a shop's website that's the same...http://www.epic-cycles.co.uk/images/genesis-eq00-12-1000d.jpg.0 -
I Think I just found the last 2012 Equilibirum Frameset in the UK. And snapped it up. Had to buy it from Evans. Wouldn't if there was a choice but from my research it was the last 58cm around.
Decided to buy one, LBS tried hard to find one but their Madison rep said they were all sold out, none in stock and Discontinued!
BUT, new ones arriving in the country in Aug/Sep.
AND framesets available in colours other than Red (nevermind, I like the red. reminds me of my first proper road bike when I was 15, a cherry red Graham Weigh 531.... ahh memories)0 -

Good work, Sir. Pics when it's built-up, naturally.0 -

No, not really You lucky bastard. You may continue to sleep peacefully. Last evening I was horrored to find out that all dealers were sold out. Mere five hours earlier the stock was still green at least at Evans. Ironically, now that I had finally made up my mind and decided to build one from scratch and had spent some time at work speccing the build, I had to hurry for a meeting and hence didn't have the time to place the order in time.
I felt so frustrated that I decided not to be left empty handed again. Thus, I ordered the 20.0 -

Have a look at the picture on the previous page. the positioning messes with the front mech. Really shoddy IMHO.

Thought it would be close! I was getting itchy feet waiting for my LBS to get back to me about supply. Took 2 days for the rep to reply to their calls. Shame they couldn't as I prefer to buy through them. Eventually I called Evans instead of buying online as sometimes their website stock level isn't accurate. The guy on the phone said it was the last one! TBH if it had gone I would probably have got a full bike build too and rebuilt it.0 -
So are you saying that there are framesets left other than red available at the moment, or is it a case of a new set of colour schemes coming out for Aug/Sep??0
-
Rob13 wrote:So are you saying that there are framesets left other than red available at the moment, or is it a case of a new set of colour schemes coming out for Aug/Sep??
The latter
IIRC the rep told my LBS that Madison are totally out of framesets now and the next batch (2013 model?) will be same as 2012 framesets but available in different colours in Aug/sep this year. Sounds like the boys and girls at Genesis have listened to the riders who want their bikes but want to pick a colour. Bike brand in "reacting-to-customer-input-rather-than-forcing-faux-improvement" shocker!0 -

I've e-mailed them (mores to let them know: I'll go via the bike shop first), so will report back once settled0 -
I've emailed them to see when they are going to announce the new stuff. Hopefully a hint of colour schemes..0

Don't hold your breath. I heard feck all from neither Maddison nor Genesis this time last year when I was begging for info on the 2012 range.
I get the impression Genesis's heart is in mountain biking and it's a bit of a fluke they've created a reasonably priced, steel, do-all machine. They kind of deserve competition, but, as yet, no one has stepped up.0 -

Quite! And I've recently advised a few people interested in the Equilibrium to take a look at that review. Had the Jamis Quest been available when I was looking I'm sure I'd still have gone for the Equilibrium for the excellent somewhere-in-between geometry, but I'm still surprised no one - short of the high end 'boutique' manufacturers - have jumped on the Equilibrium bandwagon.
Fair play to Genesis, but I do get the impression they're not that fussed by their road range.0 -

54..I was meaning to ask Jimbo, wondering if his was the same
EDIT: looking at it again, I would have thought there would be eough room to get the bolts higher, unless you were carrying a milk churn??0 -

Seems a bit weird to me. The lowest bolt on my 56 is 16cm up the seat tube and there is loads of room for a 75cl bottle.0 -
My 56cm the bolt is above the mech, I can just fit a full litre bottle in it. Same place on a smaller frame would be a struggle for a litre bottle.--

54! I see the argument re. frame size, clearance to get the bottle in/out etc...but I'm not entirely convinced. My (smaller) CAAD9 had about 2" clearance between the top of a 750ml bottle and the top-tube. At a guess (given I can;t mount the cage!), the Equilibrium has just as much, if not more.0
