    Few quetions WRT v.3

    1) How can I seem the performance manager. i.e. CTL etc..
    2) How do I run workouts? Do I need to sync up an ANT+ stick first? Clicking play doesnt do anything
    3) Does version 3 see the addition of Normalised Power and TSS?

    Thanks

    1) From the top menu bar: View --> Add chart --> Performance manager

    2) It won't do anything unless you have your ANT+ stick in (and Garmin ANT Agent disabled) and have added your device

    3) Yes. Very similar to xPower and Bikescore IME apart from for highly variable efforts such as races

  • I think i must have an "older" version 3. I can get to the add chart from the "view" tab. Also, I cant see Npower, it still shhows bikescore.

Do you have the up-to-date link?

    Thanks
  • Downloaded the latest version (i think). But the chart is called "performance". It seems to show the exact same thing as the "ride" chart but with a white background instead of a black?

I think v3 has always had NP. If you're looking at the Performance Manager chart there's a drop down menu in the bottom right to select Bikescore or TSS. Mind you, I don't have the latest build, I have the one before that.

I think it'll all be there, but the UI for v3.0 seems to be getting worse instead of better so you might have to spend a bit of time on the Golden Cheetah Google list trying to find out how to do things. I don't like to be too critical since the guys that are working on it are doing something that I could never do and doing it for free, but v2 is still massively better than v3 IMO. There's seems to be a drive to make it look and function like an iPad or something which I really don't get.

It doesn't look like you can add the Performance Manager chart to the analysis tab, but you can add it if you select the Home tab first. No idea if that's a feature or a bug. I had the Performance Manager chart on the Analysis tab, but having just deleted it to see how/if I can add it back again, it looks like I can't! I think my layout must have been saved from earlier releases and didn't get reset to the new default as I updated it.

I am unable to get power to show up in Realtime view.

I have a Garmin USB1 ANT+ stick, Powertap and HRM. My Powertap and HRM pair up to GC (5 Feb version 3). When I set up the ANT+ device via Options>Tools I get the correct reading for power and HR with the correct device IDs.

I save this and go into Realtime view and I get correct live data for HR, cadence and speed, but I don't get any power data. I've checked the info on the Garmin 800 head unit and that is correct and shows power, but GC doesn't show it in the realtime display.

I've tried the different chart options but I can't get it to display power. Power is recorded when I look at the analysis tab.

Any tips? I'm sure it's really obvious but I'm just not getting it.

This may be a daft question, but are you sure it's power that's missing and not cadence? The Realtime stuff doesn't show cadence for my PowerTap, but does show power.

It's definitely cadence. I get speed and cadence from the powertap on the realtime display. I don't get power. But I get all 3 when I view the activity in the analysis tab afterwards.

Mark, thanks. Added Bikescores for all my non power workouts (spin classes) based upon Joe Friel's guidance:
    http://www.trainingbible.com/joesblog/2 ... g-tss.html

However, adding a manual Bikescore meant that I lost all other metrics, charts, etc for this activity (Av HR immediately, everything else after save/exit).

I don't understand -- what version are you using btw?

You haven't lost any manual workouts i hope?

    Gulp.
Mark - sorry - somehow missed your reply.

    Using v3.0dev_20110911

I use a Garmin 310 for my spin classes so have HR info, charts, etc. If I import this file then I don't get a bikescore as I don't have power or a Ride Time as I wasn't moving. [GC doesn't know that I have been spinning, I could have been running, etc]. So as I want this included in my PMC I add a bikescore manually and in my Weekly Summary chart I add this manually. However, by adding these I lose the Av HR metric.

I have tested it this evening and it seems that even if I then add back Av Hr manually using the Info / Metric tab it still doesn't display?? Just displays 0.

No data lost, as these are imported files, I just re-imported. But it does mean that I have to either (i) do without the Av Hr metric on the Summary or (ii) have two activities for the same session - 1x imported, 1x manual with just Ride Time & Bikescore.

What do I need to get GC up and running with the live Realtime view on a mac?

I dont yet have a Ant+ USB stick, so would I be best getting the Garmin stick or a non-Garmin version, as I read I need to have the Ant Agent disabled?

Is there anything other than hardware needed to run it on mac OSX 10.7?

OK - took a chance and got a Garmin USB stick. Lots of faffing (for a non-techie like me) but I have Realtime working now. Its VERY cool to create a workout, ride the trainer and have the data directly put into GC while displaying the metrics on the screen. Building your own workouts with target %FTP numbers means you can track your actual vs target performance nicely and being able to play a video onscreen as you do it is great. Still have a couple of questions though:

    1. can you get a workout for a Sufferfest video so you have target intervals and wattages etc to aim for?

    2. not having luck with the LAP function in the workout creator - how do you use this when designing a session eg a simple 2x20?

    cheers guys

    Edit:

Just found the Get Workouts from ErgDB tool where you can download oads of workouts incl the Sufferfest stuff - AMAZING. BIG thanks to the guys who have given the time to do this all for free 8) To think I nearly signed up for TrainerRoad...

I've managed to get all my problems sorted now and I've just had my first play with realtime training. It's awesome!

I now have no excuse for not training!

Upgrading from GC 2.0 to 2.1
I havent been able to find this anywhere. I've currently got GC 2.0 installed, and need to upgrade to v2.1. Do I need to uninstall 2.0 1st, or can I just install it over the top? What will happen to all the existing files? Do I need to export them all 1st and then reimport them.

Sorry if I've missed it somewhere, but I havent been able to find anything on the GC website about upgrading (only installing from new)
    Cheers

Just install it. 2.1 will replace 2.0 and all your ride data will be there still. Why are you not using v3.0? The user interface is pretty horrible, but there are some additional features that make it worthwhile (e.g. NP, TSS, etc. which despite what some people say ARE often significantly different to xPower, Bikescore, etc.).

Don`t have a clue, I thought it would happen automatically when I downloaded v3.

It doesn't as the V3 is a development build and therefore v2 and v3 installations are completely separate so that you can continue to use both if you wish.

If you go to Help -> About Golden Cheetah it will tell you where your files are stored in both V2 & V3. Trying to remember what I did but I think I just copy and paste the v2 athlete into v3 and then when you open v3 the first time and open your athlete it will automatically convert all the files to the new format so could have a wait if you a lot files but once that's done it should open and close as normal.
