    Hi

I have a quick question I can't find the answer to on the Wiki.

Is it possible to transfer a rider's details (profile, rides, CP etc) from one computer to another? I have a lot of data I want to enter manually and I don't want to have to do it twice for my 2 laptops.

    Thanks

    Mike

Just copy the athlete folder from one laptop to the other. If you click on help > About Golden Cheetah then you will see where the ride data is stored. Just copy the folder to where the rider data is stored on the other laptop. I copy all my ride data to a memory stick as a back-up as losing the data would be a major ball-ache. The other option is to run GC off a memory stick, but my experience with this is that it gets really slow as the amount of data builds up.

    Hi all

I'm having difficulty with Daniels points and Bikescore with manual ride entry. A couple of weeks ago when I did a manual ride entry GC automatically calculated DP and BS. Now I get a different screen and GC asks me what the DP and BS are.

Q1: What have I done to get the 'other' input screen where GC does the calculation?

Q2: If I can't get to that screen, what's the formula for BS and/or DP?

I'm doing a manual entry because all I have is a HRM and a watch at the moment.

    Cheers

    Mike

I have a question regarding TSB. I'm using Joe Friel's training plan which involves targeting a specific Stress Balance for race day. Friel quotes TSB values from WKO+, so I'm wondering which calculation in Golden Cheetah is most comparable with WKO+ - TRIMP, Daniels points or Bike Score?
    thanks.

    Bikescore ~ TSS.

    Use v3 and you'll get Bikescore/LTS/STS and TSS/CTL/ATL.

I find TSS is usually > than Bikescore though, especially for highly variable efforts like races with the result that my current CTL is about 110 whereas LTS is only 103.

Thanks for that. V3 mac build is still pretty much unusable sadly :(
Another Question: On the Critical Power window, does the dotted red line suggest what my power curve "should" be?

    Bummer. Any specific reason?

I use v3 exclusively now, but then if it crashes for me, I fix it... and I use a 705/srm combo or my Computrainer so not exactly an exhaustive use-case :)

Really do want to hear why...

    Cheers,
    Mark

Mark. The Metrics window has no content and on the PM window, the plot lines are about a centimetre thick! The lines on the Ride Plot window are a bit chunky as well. Diary window appears to do nothing useful, just has a green block if I rode that day. Measures and Athletes tabs do nothing. Home brings up a grey page with nothing on it.
OK, just had a fiddle and seem to have accidentally brought up an extra panel on the left showing my rides and some other controls. Now I see how the metrics window is controlled, so that works.. Can't fathom what the Charts tab on the left does, am I being thick?!
All looks good for the future, I guess the UI needs refined a bit..

Ya you need to select a date range. Its a long story but related to how preoprties work when dragging and droping charts on the home window.

If you have a chart you like to see a lot then drag and drop it on the home window and use that instead of the metric tab. (It is going soon).
and on the PM window, the plot lines are about a centimetre thick! The lines on the Ride Plot window are a bit chunky as well.

Open the preferences box and change the setting in appearances.
Diary window appears to do nothing useful, just has a green block if I rode that day.

You need to specify which fields you want to see in the text in preferences. You can also choose to view as a ride list, in which case you can group and sort by any metric. Very useful for looking at ride collections. Right click on the heading to choose columns etc.
Measures and Athletes tabs do nothing.
They are not written yet, but are new features you won't see in v2.
Home brings up a grey page with nothing on it.

Not at all. drag and drop a few charts onto the grey home page, you can set their properties and resize or move them around. This is the UI that will be available for analysis soon --- but with some sensible default layout.
All looks good for the future, I guess the UI needs refined a bit..
YES! The controls whould be toolbar icons not hidden in the sidebar. And if you're on a mac that drawer thing is bloody awful. It seemsed like a good idea at the time, but it drives me mad. Some context sensitive help is needed badly.

this all makes more sense now, thanks. still can't do anything with the diary, although I've sussed the list view.. where in preferences did you mean?

Under settings - ride data - fields

You can select which fields appear in the diary view.

BTW, you /should/ be able to click on a ride to select it, but that doesn't work on Mac at the moment. Trying to work out why.

OK, thought I'd done it right.. as you can see from the screenshots still nothing showing in Diary:

And going back to my original question, what does the dotted red line signify on the CP page?

Either the ride files in question don't have any of that data set or its a bug and the database hasn't been refreshed after changing the options.

Can you close GC and then delete metricDB in your athlete directory (~/Library/GoldenCheetah/<name>/metricDB) and start GC (it will refresh the db on startup) ?

If its a bug I'll fix it :)

Its an estimate of your potential best powers based upon the bests it could find in your anaerobic and aerobic zones. If you have enough historic data it should provide a fairly good estimate of your potential 1hr best power.

Tried quitting & deleting the metricDB - still nothing showing in diary. My ride files have come straight off a Garmin 705 so should contain the data?!
    appreciating your help!

Liversedge, there's a "feature" of GC that I've been meaning to raise for a while.

I often use my LYC as a "bike computer" - i.e. HR & speed, no PT hub. I only tend to use the PT wheel on solo training rides.

When I download data captured in this mode, GC presents made up non-zero torque & power data. I don't know if it's the LYC producing the pointless data, or GC?
    Whenever speed is non-zero,
torque (in Nm) = 1366.046 / speed (in m/s) and
      power = 4095W (I wish!)

It's useless and annoying. Unsurprisingly GC thinks these sessions are pretty stressful, with me producing 4095W all the time. Can it be filtered out in a future version of GC please?

I've occasionally used my LYC as a bike computer and I don't get that behavior when I download with GC v. 2.

      Thanks for the info RC.

If I go back to Power Agent 7, I don't have any make-believe data. Therefore I'd guess it could be a setting I have in GC?

There certainly isn't any feature that I am aware of that does that! sounds like a bug.

On the diary fields, TCX files straight off a 705 won't have any text narratives in them... you will need to enter them yourself .. i.e. objectives of ride, notes, route etc

    • Hi. I have not been using GC for long and am sorry if this has been covered but does anyone make any sort of adjustment to the info if say they are doing HIIT on a set of rollers. I ask because I'm only using HR and the TRIMP score for an hour on the rollers is quite low when compared to an hours ride. The roller might be say 15mins warm up then 4x 6min/4min sets.
Not sure if I've made myself clear.

That's one of the inherit limitations of TRIMP as a workload metric - HR has an upper limit and so supra threshold efforts are rarely properly accounted for.

Any way of turning off the "critical power tab" in GC?

I always click it by mistake when looking at a ride and then the program hangs for 3 minutes until it pops up a box that I can abort to make it stop taking ages working out something I'm not interested in

Under the 'VIEW' tab, deselect 'Critical Power'.

Doh! That was really obvious

In my defence I only use GC as a file viewer on the PC I don't have wko+ on so I've never really used it properly.

      No, still embarassing

I appear to have a discrepancy between average power on the Garmin and that shown in GC. Last night I raced and the Garmin recorded an average power of 304W, and this figure was confirmed when I uploaded to the file to Garmin TC. For some reason, GC thinks the average power was 271W. It did the same thing on a race 3 weeks ago.

      Any ideas?

Is the Garmin set to exclude zeros from the power average? That'd explain the difference if it is since GC power average will include zeros.

      Good thought, I'll check.
    • On 2 seperate computers. The Performance Manager crashes GC. Does anyone else have this problem?

      Thanks
