Thanks very much for your help.
I've installed the 2.0 stable on my linux laptop - is there a 3.0 linux build kicking about? I'm quite happy to use either.0 -

Ah no. Sorry. I develop almost exclusively on Linux myself but don't have the Devops expertise to build an installable binary... but could try... which distro do you use (not that it should make a huge amount of difference).
Here is my Ubuntu-based build but with dynamic libs ... worth a try ... you never know

It complains about missing QT objects. I'll chuck it onto my windows 7 machine for the short term, and let you know how it goes...
I'm using Linux Mint - it lives in the garage and plays movies while I turbo train :-)0 -

Ah ok - told you my devops skills are poor.
FWIW, I'm building against the Qt SDK so you might find it goes away if you install that, but its one hell of a download. http://qt.nokia.com/downloads/sdk-linux-x11-32bit-cpp
Mint looks nice, might jump when Gnome3 arrives ...--

That didn't sort it. I'll have a play when I have some time - thanks for your help (and thanks for developing such cool software).0

how do numbers for LTS/STS/SB match up with the numbers for CTL etc in TrainingPeaks - I mean the absolute values?
I see lots written about CTL & TSB numbers in lots of forums, and am wondering if I can compare my numbers directly from GC to what people quote from TP?
thanksYour Past is Not Your Potential...0 -

General trends are very similar, but as noted before for individual rides xPower and NP can vary with xPower generally being lower.
GC v3 has NP, TSS et al anyway (as well as TRIMP and Daniel Points) so you can choose which magic numbers you prefer. The folks at TrainingPeaks have kindly given us permission to use TSS etc for which they own the trademark.
We also support upload/download to TrainingPeaks.com.--

thanks - less worried about xPower & NP but thinking CTL vs LTS and TSB vs SB.
I'm on a mac so will wait for v3 t come along. I hope it doesnt mean losing the history gained so far? I have 3 months of really good data nowYour Past is Not Your Potential...0 -

It is backwards compatible, but not forward compatible ... the ridefile format has changed to JSON and is blindingly fast.
CTL, ATL and TSB are also in v3 along with VI, IF, TSS, NP.--

I'm sure Mark will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that provided xPower = NP (which it usually doesn't, but isn't usually far off) then TSS = Bikescore, CTL = LTS, etc.More problems but still living....0 -
Sorry - don't want to troll through 7 pages of technical answers....
Is there any plans to make an app to view GC data on your phone? Upload files to your PC and then be able to sync with the phone?
Or does it exist already!?
Thanks guys.0 -
v3 is a slow burn development, so its gonna run and run. The good news is builds are available for windows on goldencheetah.stand2surf.net (our development builds website run by Gareth Coco). We are looking to do Linux and Mac too.
I reckon we're talking next year for an official release -- there are a LOT of planned features. including training sycle/workout planning, goal setting/tracking, load planning etc as well as managing measures (weight, height, blood pressure yada yada). But TBH we aren't 100% sure where it will end up. One thing is for sure the GUI will be much better and it will support more native look and feel for Windows and Mac.
No current plans for mobile but we have got some folks mucking about with ports to Android, but that could end up being a pathfinder rather than coming to fruition.
Cheers,
Mark--

I tried training mode (v3, Windows) last night. It wouldn't detect my power meter - I have no idea if my ANT+ stick was working or not (I know of no other way to test it), but it was showing up in device manager and drivers had been installed.
I'll have another crack this weekend.0 -
Thanks for the response liversedge.
Is there a way (in v2) to get rid of the altitude scale on the Ride Plot? I use a netbook for GC and the unnecessary scale takes up valuable real-estate. (I've a PT so no altitude data.)0 -

You need to add the device in config as a native ant+ device and leave the profile blank. When you start on the training tab it will scan for ant+ devices and start displaying telemetry.
I have found that the stick should be pointing towards your bike head-on and anywhere from 0.5m - 1.5m from the device itself. Too close/far and its not so great.
Do make sure you have the right device driver installed (I do it by just installing the Garmin ANT+ agent), BUT, do make sure the Garmin ANT+ agent is disabled -- since it gets in the way. You will probably see a little three-sphere icon in the task bar if it is running. But given you're a Linux user I'm guessing you can suss that one out--

You can select the data series to show on the plot in the controls - there is a checkbox for altitude if you hide it the scale will hide too.
If you want the altitude to show but not a scale that is not possible.--

Does golden cheetah work with cycelops power agent ? or the powertap cpu unit?0

CarbonCopy wrote:Does golden cheetah work with cycelops power agent ? or the powertap cpu unit?
Yes - you can import poweragent .csv files. And yes, you can download from a LYC using USB or serial adapters (something most others cannot, but then the serial adapter is ANCIENT).--

Edit: If I export the ride, insert some non-zero data into the altitude "column", and reimport the data then the altitude checkbox is enabled and I can deselect it to remove the altitude scale.0 -

Bug! Fancy adding it to our bug tracker? http://bugs.goldencheetah.org/projects/goldencheetah

Just used the real time mode for the first time and it's pretty cool. I didn't have to do anything to get it to work other than disabling Garmin ANT agent. What's the purpose of the "pair" button cos all I did was add the device as described above?
A couple of questions/observations though about V3:
- there was no cadence in the real time mode, but I do get cadence info on my Garmin.
- speed is displayed, but where can I set my wheel size? I know speed means nowt on the turbo, but it just annoyed me that the speed/distance didn't match my Garmin.
- a more general observation is that when I open the options screen the close/save buttons are almost off the screen on my netbook so if I make changes it's a very delicate operation to save changes. My netbook is Windows 7 and if I drag the options screen it just jumps back when I let go. Bloody stupid Windows....
- the notes keywords that I use in V2 to colour code the calendar don't seem to work - should they work?
I know its a development version and I hope I'm not coming across as being critical - I think GC is ace.More problems but still living....0 -
I got it working following the instructions that you gave. Is there a non quarqd method for linux? I've got it building, and I'm quite keen to have a tinker...
I'd like to try to add:
- a lap average field
- auto lap (as defined in an .erg file)
Does this already exist and I'm just missing it?
(There are plenty of errors in the ride file, I think largely because of the way quarqs handle not peddling - I could have a go at fixing that)0 -

Pair button does nothing at present, but may be useful for folks with multiple ANT+ devices and want to specify which to use in advance. But yeah... it does nowt right now.- there was no cadence in the real time mode, but I do get cadence info on my Garmin.
Yeah, my bad. It scans for a speed/cadence sensor but not a plain ol' cadence sensor. Will look to fix that!- speed is displayed, but where can I set my wheel size? I know speed means nowt on the turbo, but it just annoyed me that the speed/distance didn't match my Garmin.
There is no way of setting the wheel size at present so it is fixed and can be inaccurate because of this.- a more general observation is that when I open the options screen the close/save buttons are almost off the screen on my netbook so if I make changes it's a very delicate operation to save changes. My netbook is Windows 7 and if I drag the options screen it just jumps back when I let go. Lap time is there but not average -- I'm working up a more configurable layout thing and will add that. Autolap is supported, in an erg file just put the word LAP where load would normal go and it will put a lap marker in the resulting file (you should see horizontal markers on the ergfile plot too).
Linux with native ANT+ works for me (I dev on Linux). Make sure you have the latest drivers installed. I usually see /dev/ttyUSB0 for the garmin USB1 stick I have. It is using the cp210x 2-8:1.0 driver. Video playback is also coming soon... been playing with it over the last week. Cool for working out with Sufferfest and getting realtime data alongside.--
Obsessed is just a word elephants use to describe the dedicated. http://markliversedge.blogspot.com0 -
Cool about the video playback - I was using it yesterday with two computers, which might be a bit much!
I have no idea about the linux driver - I'll have a play. I'm not really a ninja with linux drivers that don't automagically work!
The lap issue for me was a problem with the workout wizard, which wasn't adding time before LAP. I'd stepped through the code and worked it out, then manually updated the file. I guess the workout wizard is still a work in progress.

Ah neat - the workout wizard needs updating.
I'm on Ubuntu and get the following in dmesg: cp210x: v0.09:Silicon Labs CP210x RS232 serial adaptor driver
I reckon its a pretty standard driver on most recent distros. I didn't install anything special to get it...--
