I'm tempted to say that we'll do:

    9th August Surrey

    30th August Rogers ride

    13th September Dulwich Paragon

Before the last ride we can organise another set of rides (scheduled every two weeks). I've opted to keep the 23 August free as this clashes with the SCR trip.

    Agreed.
    Bike/Train commuter: Brompton S2L - "Machete"
12mile each way commuter: '11 Boardman CX with guards and rack
For fun: '11 Wilier La Triestina
SS: '07 Kona Smoke with yellow bits

Huh??? Is there really not a yard of level road on either route? Now I really am worried.

Cori - if you want pancake flat then I'm afraid you're bang out of luck heading in any direction from London. However, none of the hills you'll encounter are any worse than the ones in Richmond park, you'll be fine!

I'm heading down to Sussex this weekend, I can tackle 1 hill and then be on Romney marsh which used to be covered by the sea and is as flat as a pancake, you'd love it. I'm taking the bike and will be TT'ing two flat 10 milers

But even that involves 139feet climb. Flat road is hard to find.

As an aside to DDD's post I'm going to be riding arround the Dunwich (Suffolk) coast on the 30th August, it's very beautiful and very flat  Anyone's welcome to join me, there's an excellent pub that does B&B just up the road from me. I would offer a bed in the house but you'd have to suffer my family, and I wouldn't inflict that on anybody

Flat AND beautiful. That sounds better.

Verily, my cup runneth over.

It's as if the area had been designed with you in mind

Unfortunately on occasion the head winds can make a flat road feel like 1:4, and the cross winds can have you leaning over at about 45 degrees just to stay upright

There's always a catch, always a bloody catch.

But hang on, it's summer. No winds. No winds at all.

Cori, it will only be my third tri ever! The distances for the bike is only 20km and I don't do them very quickly. It's all about the participating

Although you would approve of the bike course at Dorney lake as it is practically pancake flat. Windy though, which is worse I think.

Glad we have settled on Surrey. I'm both excited and slightly nervous at the prospect of going cycling with internet "strangers".

I'd love to time trial, I'd be awesome.

If you can get up for 6:30 on a Sunday morning be my guest. Personally I feel there's better things to do at that time on a Sunday morning, like sleeping off Saturday night

Don't ask you'll start them off again

From what I can surmise it's meeting in Richmond Park for IP's ride into Surrey, with the promise of a pub lunch, starting at an unspecified time.

    09:00 for a 09:30 start anyone ??????

In all honesty I suspect IP's and Rogers route will prove to be very similar with regard to hills. The elevational profiles are quite misleading as the gradients are vastly exagerated.

They're not similar in that IP's ride has several noticeable hills and the Windsor ride has one. And it's only 100 feet high Seriously, the Windsor ride is SUCH a doddle that a couple of minutes heavier breathing after 20 or so miles is going to be a nice change, if anything!

Also, you can be a slow triathlete! Think about Jen - she's not the quickest as she'd readily admit but she can run 95 miles in one go...

    Loving this thread.

Gawd dam! Seems my e-mail reminder had gone AWOL for this one (or I accidently deleted it........) as I've just had to read 3 pages of posts!!

Anyhow if we do the Surrey route I'll have to give it a miss as I can't really justify a whole day out especially as it's school breaks and I have no other time off, I'm already getting it in the neck for the SCR trip weekend ;-)

I was about to chip in that if we had done the Paragon route that there was a charity BBQ not far away from that route that we could have attended for food and drinks from 2pm for a £10 donation.

As for those route profiles I prefer to look at all the downward sloping sections as that's when you can reap the rewards of the work completing the upward sloping sections :-D

Bass, sorry you can't make it.

    OK to finalise.

@Prince(Jash/James): Can you confirm the where and what time you would like to meet for your ride?

@ Roger: Same as above and I hope you are available to lead the ride on that date.

@PinkPedal: Could you confirm a date you are available to do the Paragon ride, please (it could be the 16th or 23rd of August, though this date does clash with the SCR trip. We will have to find someone who is happy to lead it.

Any more takers for the ride:
[*]Dondaddyd (Laurence) - Surrey Ride [/*]
      [*]Shoulder of Lamb - Paragon[/*]
[*]Jamey (aka Jamey) - Surrey ride (but might have to meet you along the route slightly)[/*]
      [*]Cori (Fiona) [/*]
[*]Rich158 (Rich) - any route is good for me[/*]
[*]lardboy (aka Dave) - RM's longer and flatter ride[/*]
      [*]Roger Merriman [/*]
[*]PinkPedal (Emma) - Either Ride - will go with majority[/*]
      [*]Sewinman (Morgan) - I don't care.[/*]
[*]LiT (Olivia) doesn't mind which route we do as long as there's a nice lunch![/*]
[*]Il Principe - Surrey Ride, happy to lead and lunch at the Cricketers![/*]
[*]Biondino (Mark) - A third, as yet undecided, route starting from Dulwich. Lunch and beer seconded
      [/*]

Is it 23rd August then? I might be able to make that, Surrey ride would be good, think I've cycled past the Cricketers a few times and always fancied stopping but never had time.

At DDD, if you fancy having a go at a time trial they are doing one in Richmond Park on 9th and 23rd August - v early start (6am  ) but only 10.4 miles, I'm going to have a crack on the 23rd.

Not too bloody early! If it's a 9am ride start I'm out...

      9.30 at RP is passable.

Seriously, some of us don't have jobs to get up for... :P

I demand these rides be known as "Weekend Slowcial Rides" or "SCR Slowcials" or something else that makes use of the genius punning skills I used to combine the words slow and social while I had nothing better to think about on my commute home last night :)

I'm quite happy for say a 10am start to allow for people to grab breakie and get to RP which is a fair distance for some.

the further away in time the more likely i'll be employed i'm waiting to clear...and as the job is not 9to5...
