I've just had a look at the profile for the Paragon route, and as I expected it's pretty hilly, about 2000 ft of climbing over 30 miles. This isn't huge, but it'll take a toll on the legs if you're not used to the distance, or hills.

Why don't we look for something a little flatter so we don't risk alienating anybody, and then build from there. I'll have a think about it this week, although anything going south or west of London is likely to encounter the odd hill or two

Jaysus you folks need a kick up the ar$e when it comes to planning!

    Right here are 2 routes:

Dulwich Paragon, 32 miles, 2020 feet climb

Surrey Route(Including optional pub stop @ the Cricketers) 42 miles, 1497 feet

The second route looks favourite as we can always miss of the second loop if people are suffering. I'm going to duck out of leading, I don't know west London at all, so I'll leave it to someone with more local knowledge.

Now if anyone wants to come down to Kent sometime that's another matter, or indeed the Suffolk coast. Now that is flat, it was specifically designed for anyone with an aversion to hills

Your not gonna get much flatter than the surrey route I've posted. The route out down Portsmouth road isn't wonderful, but once you're in the lanes it's all good, plus I've kept it north of the hills. In comparison, if you rode 6 laps of RP you'd cover around 40 miles and 1874 feet.

    Right lets vote:
    Dondaddyd (Laurence) - Surrey Ride
    Shoulder of Lamb
    Jamey (aka Jamey)
    Cori (Fiona)
    Rich158 (Rich)
    lardboy (aka Dave)
    Roger Merriman
    PinkPedal (Emma)
    Sewinman (Morgan)

If you are coming add your name to the list and the route you wish to take. Route that comes up the most, by Fri 31st, wins.

If someone wants to lead, please just step forward.

I think someone, perhaps Fiona as the self-styled slowest of all :) , should perhaps try and come up with a third route which stays away from significant hills and nasty roads and starts from Dulwich.

My vote goes for the Paragon route as the Surrey one starts in Wimbledon and ends in RP, not a huge problem but I thought the meetup point was going to be Dulwich?

As I've said before I have ridden part of that route myself so would be happy to attempt to lead, but having not ridden the right hand side of the bottom loop I'm not to certain on that part but with a combination of GPS and maps I'm sure we can't go to wrong ;-) Also if I say I'm required to guide the ride (and forget to mention I volunteered.......) then I have some additional leverage with the other half to attend :-D

    Rich158 (Rich)
    lardboy (aka Dave)
    Roger Merriman
PinkPedal (Emma) - Either Ride - will go with majority
    Sewinman (Morgan)

I will come out for a cycle whichever route we choose. Thanks IP for the second route plotting :D

I literally get lost on the way to Richmond Park from Clapham (no, I'm not kidding  ) so am not a good candidate for route leading. I reckon we'll be stopping along the way to regroup so can orientate ourselves from there. Anyone who has ever seen me attempt to orientate myself on a map will now be howling with laughter at the thought.

Flatter is better for me, as I'll have to bring the old faithful heavy hybrid if we do something with too many hills. Or I could pop a lower gear on the other side of the flip-flop hub and change round at the bottom of hills and back again at the top.

PP, I'll be heading from Brixton Hill, so we can head to the start together if you're wary of getting lost. I'm not sure of the route, but I'm a demon with a map.

Paragon. Just to buck the current trend - I will go on whichever one though. If we do end up doing the Surrey ride, can we start early? My back of the envelope calculations tell me that 42 + 25 = 67 (miles for me roundtrip).

Sounds like fun, I'll pass though (I'll be doing an imperial ton Friday night/Saturday morning, so I think I'll take a break for the rest of the weekend...). LiT and IP: Perhaps you should treat this as practice for going just a little slower. Either that, or can the Edge be set to display a message: 'You have exceeded pootling speed!". Bear in mind that your pootle speed is probably my (and others') 'working pretty hard' speed......

Thanks Lardboy! If we do the Surrey route starting from RP I should be fine but we could still meet up en route depending on which way you go.

I'm up for starting early too SoL, more for traffic avoidance than anything else :D

probably wise to start earlyish, other option to further muddy the water is route like this http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/SCR-slow-and-flat

about as flat as one can expect, passes though lots of nice villages, and is very very flat. very easy to modify, loads of nice pubs, quite a few in hampton ;-)

if we go surrey/northdowns ish way i'm another who knows the area well.

The earlier the better for me within reason. Bear in mind I've got 35 miles to do before I reach RP, so about 8'ish would be perfect.
