Speaking of not knowing what I was referring to...

Whoever said at lunch that they had to reboot their Sky+ box loads, get one of these to reboot it in the middle of the night automatically.

I agree - you should have a thread for the social rides, one for the mid-term  and one for the rabid nutters 8)

You can then post in the relevent thread to show your interest / commitment.

Oh, and I have to reset my Sky box as well... I use a remote control power adapter, the only issue with turning it off for significant lengths of time (I think) is that you may screw up Anytime downloads (although I expect that they will just resume)

Paragon ride (more of the same pace/slowcial) we need:
    Details/Time
    Dates
    Ride Leader
Meeting Place - I propose Dulwich Park - across the road from the Picture Gallery, near the Dog Pub/Dulwich Village.

Principe's not so slowcial Surrey ride, includes Box Hill.
    Details?time
    Dates
    Ride Leader
    Meeting Place

OK so I am tempted by BoxHill/Surrey a bit faster to challenge myself .... but perhaps only should attempt it after a few more longer rides and speed work!

On the paragon ride, we may need to postpone (I'd originally suggested this coming Sunday 16th), unless someone is happy to route lead. Biondino can confirm that I should under no circumstances attempt to do this. I'm trying to WTFU and go out on one of the D Paragon into newbie rides soon so if it doesn't happen now, perhaps could be one for the future.

'twas me, cheers for the link. I got home to find my box had merrily refused to tape the Charity Shield, taped the repeat and that failed too despite a reset. ARGHHH, I fcuking hate Sky and their fcuking poxy, poorly designed soft/hardware. A POX ON MURDOCH.

You would be a lot faster (like LiT's level of fast) if you used your big ring...

PinkPedal, you are easily fast enough, trust me! I will not comment on your big ring.

To echo, this. Yes you are fast enough. But for all my sprinting you looked to be a very powerful rider. Which is why I wanted to see you give it the meanz beanz proper...

@Lardboy, up to Prince if he wants a seperate thread, I'm happy to keep it here and do the admin...

I sort of think a separate thread might be a good idea too.

I'd like to try rides like Jash is suggesting but I'd like to do a couple more 'slowcials' before I try a 'not so slowcial' if that makes sense.

So in the meantime I'd prefer it if this thread was just for proper slowcials to avoid confusion, I think.

I'll come on the "Not So Slowcial". What speeds are we thinking? 18mph or so avg? How fast was the "slocial"?

@pinkpedal - don't worry about the speed, this will be more of a "testing the water" type ride so it will be faster than Sunday's jaunt but I'm not talking 20mph plus, more 15 - 17mph or so and as ever, no one gets left behind. The real aim is to give those who've not ventured into the Surrey Hills before a little taste of what can be found - I'm not gonna push the pace until we know what people's limits etc are. We're only really tackling two hills and one - Box Hill is really not difficult, perhaps just a bit longer than others in the area - it can be climbed by some in just over 5 mins! Crocknorth is steep but short and eminently doable.

Does anyone want to lead the Paragon ride? Anyone with a Garmin, or who has been on the route?

I'm thinking of postponing the ride for a week, unless everyone wants to do it this weekend. I just have selfish reasons: tired and want to spend time with the GF and all that (though she may not even be at home this weekend...)

How fast (not average just pedalling speeds) were we going on Sunday, because at/near the front of the group and chasing your wheel I was going faster than 15mph...

Anyway, I'm up for Surrey now... I shouldn't be, I don't feel ready and probably will blow up but I'll give it a go, if its for me.

I bet I suprised you all with that

I know the Dulwich Paragon Saturday ride route like the back of my hand and can lead it if you're desperate, but I can't do any weekend until September. But as I said, if you need me then, let me know...

TBH i don't think i could have been much faster without having to pull a sickie today. I just manage to fool people by pulling off a couple of good sprints here and there, then sitting at the back dry heaving while people can't see me :p

We were going pretty slowly for most of it, save the odd push on the front and a couple of sprints uphill, or when you & Rich had your sprint.

Here's a comparison between a Hilly ride i rode in Surrey in April and the Slowcial:

Slowcial - all stats from my place, not RP
    Distance: 61 Miles
    Total ascent: 2092 Feet
    Av Speed: 12.8 mph
    Top Speed: 35 mph

    Surrey Hills April
    Distance: 75 Miles
    Total ascent: 4959
    Av Speed: 17.4
    Top Speed: 38.9mph

I'd envisage the Surrey Hills ride I lead falling between these two in terms of av speed and total ascent.

I'd be up for the Surrey Hills ride, dependant upon date. It looks a good route it'd be a shame to miss it.

You were having a cheerful whistle along the way!

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. Next challenge: mastering the big ring

I'm up for the second Surrey ride dependant on when it is...

Re: the Paragon ride, shall we postpone it for just now (thanks HH for being a volunteer route leader) and come back to it as a future slowcial?

    Jealous.

Working on a plan to attend the next one. 70 mile to Belfast, ferry to Liverpool then 200 miles to London.

Only 9 round trips to reel ITB back in.

    Bring it on!

Tibbetts corner is easy*! How about Wandsworth Bridge roundabout?

*I say that, but that wasn't how I felt back in 1991 when, on my second driving lesson, my instructor decided to take me first round Tibbetts Corner, then down the A3...

Alright guys, lets not divert the conversation too much more than it already is. This weekend looks like a write off, but I still would like to organise another 'Slowcial'. If I had a Garmin I would lead it myself.

My mate took me round the Kingston one way system on my second lesson.... hehe.

Don't we already have one organised for the following weekend?

Just checked my diary and 30th is looking excellent for me.
  • I cannot make 30th - also the condensed nature of the "not so slowcial" rides will suit me better. But I really did enjoy it on sunday and will try to make it along to another one in another month or two.

Just started a new job so have been off line. Wanted to say that i really enjoyed the ride and was a pleasure to meet everyone. Special mention to DDD for the idea and organisation, IP for patiently leading, and finally to Cori who I thought was an absolute trooper. Lovely pub too.

As DDD* very kindly pointed out I blew up on at least one occasion but other than that it was very pleasurable.

*who i recall passing twice on hill climbs. :)
  • 30th is yours truly as leader (genral mother hen etc).

okay what did we think about surrey lanes? yes no more off that please? I'm more than happy to roll people out that way again,

longer further shorter maybe a few hills or not? would people like a crack at say boxhill?

or would folk like a flatter route out to windsor and back?
