This route of Roger's - http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/SCR-slow-and-flat - is almost exactly the one I've done a couple of times. Chapeau for avoiding Staines. 48.3 miles a bit optimistic for a first go?

Oh, meant to say, anyone adding their name to the newly reformatted list might get put off by the tags I've added but just copy'n'paste the name above and change the relevant parts without touching the square brackets and you'll be fine.

it's flat and never very far away from a train station, so as long as the pace is nice and comftable should be fine, i've helped on club runs of simular distance though the surrey lanes and as long as you keep the group together and don't push the pace it's fine.

Should no option win more than 50% of the vote, this would be my second preference under the alternative voting system.

Oh god the Lib Dems are out

But lunch sounds good, and limeted beer in my case. Any more than 2 pints and you may as well roll me home

        Sorted!

No need to thank me :D I'll only thank you if you come along, put the carrier on YOUR bike and manage to keep a 23kg border collie in it!

I have a lot of bungee cords that might do the trick!

Having said that, maybe a trailer would make more sense, 23kg is no featherweight

Thought 'd reformat the list too, to make it more readable :)

I am still suspicious of why Il Principe wants to do this ride. I reckon he's got something to sell...

Perhaps I'm just a social creature eager to support those who would like to up their mileage?

I wish I'd had something like this when I started, I just headed out to Surrey on my tod and got a bloody rude awakening when I stumbled across Crocknorth road for the forst time! Not that I've included that on my route, fun as it is.

I'm inclined to switch to Roger's flater ride. Out that way its practically belgium. Hell of ride getting there though.

Can people please stop deleting me from the list?

(Roger's flat ride is fine with me - it's a v good ride. Windsor Great Park is the highlight both in terms of scenery and in terms of hills :) )

Ok, I want flat so Roger's route looks the best of the three.

But it's quite long and I have 15 miles just to get to the start point.

                    This isn't going well...

Edit: sorry, no, I don't have an immediate solution. I sense someone just needs to take a hold of this and make a decision and others will just to come along or not, otherwise on current form, the Middle East problem will be be resolved before this route is.

Agreed! Personally I think my route is slightly better than Roger's :P in that it spends less time on bigger roads which makes for better chatting time, it's also shorter, and includes a stop at a wonderful pub! Roger's would be my second choice though!

OK, I need some context - does anyone know Vicar's Hill in SE13?

If so, on Il Principe's ride, how many versions of that or similar are there?

oddly enought I agree! in that given thats the area if i'm off for a ride i go to, in terms of pubs well very local to me and on way back is the Bell in hampton, has carpark place to pull bikes to at back and over looks the Thames and St Marys church.

also such pubs as the Magpie which is right on the river lovely views and one should be able to take bikes around. this is in Sunbury so just before Hampton.

I'm tempted to say that we'll do:

                    9th August Surrey

                    30th August Rogers ride

                    13th September Dulwich Paragon

Before the last ride we can organise another set of rides (scheduled every two weeks). I've opted to keep the 23 August free as this clashes with the SCR trip.

I agree! Surrey, I like the look of the pub!

What about the peeps close to Dulwich meet up there and ride together to R Park for the start.

However I can't do 13th September (triathlon at Dorney) but really really want to do the Paragon ride. Any chance of a different date??

it's more smooth once on the road, the windsor route follows the river so is ever so very slightly uphill, there and downhill on way back.

i should also point out the Crickters is fab pub. do half decent coffee as well.

In all honesty I suspect IP's and Rogers route will prove to be very similar with regard to hills. The elevational profiles are quite misleading as the gradients are vastly exagerated.

I vote we go IP's route for a nice gentle pootle and a good pub lunch, after all he has very kindly offered to lead the group

As an aside to DDD's post I'm going to be riding arround the Dunwich (Suffolk) coast on the 30th August, it's very beautiful and very flat  Anyone's welcome to join me, there's an excellent pub that does B&B just up the road from me. I would offer a bed in the house but you'd have to suffer my family, and I wouldn't inflict that on anybody
pain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................
