Yeah i was impressed with your climbing in that gear. I was on 42/15 and that was tough enough.

I managed the hills ok on 50X17... the 15 at the back would have been much tougher especially after a full weeks riding

changed my gearing up this afternoon, will give it a proper burn in to work tomorrow working as hard as i normally do. if it is substantially slower im going down from an original 48x18 to whats on now 48x19 down to a 48x17.

Its nice spinning at 48x19 but i have a feeling its going to be too slow and not enough of a work out

Been talking to the guys at Pearson about the Hanzo and they suggested 48/18 which I think is 72 but I guess we have more hills around here than in London

After my knee problem I switched down from 85 ish to 65 ish which really helped and at the same time taught me to spin like a lunatic, i'm back to 72 now which is just about doable after a hard day/week in the office.

    That is gorgeous

I really want one after seeing yours built up!

Are they doing a standard build or just a frameset? I could get it on C2W if I can source a full bike

I believe they do a standard build, but I had a frameset built to spec.

It's a lovely bike and I've finally got it "just so." It was whisper quiet this morning, no sound apart from the hum of rubber on tarmac. :D

Been checking it out and they do the Convert2 fixed full bike, I think it has a flip flop hub, i'd only be interested in single speeding it to be honest, but the fact it can be converted to gears appeals greatly in case i dont get on with SS on my commute. (Am i allowed to say that in here?)

What is the mudguard clearance like? Would you easily get 25 or 28c tires on with a guard?

Of course you are - I love that it can be easily converted to run gears.

The clearance looks ok, although I've never used 'guards or 25/28 tires so I'm not best qualified to answer that.

James, how can you reconcile your political beliefs with the faux-Leninist decals on your bike?

Kinda in the same way that Champagne Socialists, clad in sweat-shop produced "organic cotton" harp on about communism with misty eyed reverence, whilst clutching a glass of bubbly and enjoying their Villas in the south of France.

As far as I'm concerned that's simply an image of a hard working prole proudly holding aloft the fruit of his labour - all ready for me to purchase, or perhaps, snatch with the aid of a steel-shod jackboot.

Edit - the decals are by Adi Gilbert

Looking at your bike I'm trying to think of other famous classic, powerful designs that make use of bold red, white and black statements... it's on the tip of my tongue...

hi people i just did highgate hill the one into the village... fuck me that hurt and i stupidly sat down halfway to adjust my earphone, what a mistake lost all momentum but managed to carry on.

    CONQUERED!

Highgate Hill is the easy way up. HTFU.

That's true, but West Hill and Swains Lane are both harder.

I've just had a great idea! Spend an afternoon climbing to Highgate from each direction, every successful ascent followed by a pint in the nearest pub. This demands further investigation...

haha had i not stopped to play with my earphone id of been up it fine but that momentary loss of momentum just ruined my chance of a decent time up.

West hill goes the wrong direction for home though and i havent been on swaines lane yet. Dartmouth Park Hill i ran out of gears on my geared bike going up it a month or so ago so that one is on the list to do...

    Hi guys,

Someone made a comment that I should change my wheels. I think they're well made, though:

    * Phil Wood High Flange hubs, 36 front and rear. Fixed/Free
    * Mavic Open Pro rims
    * DT Competition Double Butted spokes

I don't want to mess with that, do I?

I had a comment along this lines of "nice bike, but you should upgrade the wheels", that's all!

If you were doing a TT at the time then maybe that would be a reasonable statement, but for general riding (and non silly prices) you won't get much better than Phil hubs and Open Pros.

    biondino,

you fell for it! It was an evil attempt to give you wheel anxiety and you've taken it hook, line and sinker.
