It would appear so. Putney high street is pretty much a car park after 7:30am but it doesn't seem to be putting anybody off. I guess some of them have a boot full of heavy stuff to carry but I suspect that most don't.

I think you're at the upper limits there, I am guessing the offender will get a cake from the CPS and the magistrate will buy him some book tokens.

Surely should be careless driving, not dangerous. Could happen to anyone.

Super social edition this morning. Slightly embarrassing moment as I waved across to Kingstonian at the lights on Parsons Green, only to find someone else waving back. Turns out it's a guy who I've not seen for about 18 months.

Also saw Liam, who can always be recognised by his A-Z jersey. Not sure he's on here.

Then had a quick natter with quick young lady who I always have difficulty keeping up with. One of those riders who you pass, only to find them in front of you at the next set of lights, having never seen them pass you again. Not sure her name, but blonde hair, rides a Specialized, and wears these bib shorts....

Nice to be dry this morning. No doubt all with change for this evening's ride.

Egregious bit of chopperdom by a guy in red hardshell jacket and, for some reason, shoe covers (in a nice shade of flouro yellow) this morning, who rolled through a zebra crossing in Downham while a lady with a jack russell and small child was crossing. He made only the vaguest of deviations to his course to avoid hitting the dog, just in case there was any doubt how little a fudge he gave for anyone else. Idiot.

That was pretty hard going this morning - definitely didn't feel like a slight tailwind as the BBC had promised me.

Shared the road for quite a while with a guy on a BSO who was very close to being spread all over the road by a (clearly indicating) left turning minibus just after the chicane by the Harley showroom. Got through by the skin of his teeth, shaking his head as if it was in no way his fault. Bizarre.

Not sure if it was the same guy who I then nearly wiped out at CB when I was slowing for a just-turned red, and moved left (without a shoulder check, I must admit) to wait at the left side of the ASL. Cue this idiot shooting through the red on my inside at 20+ swerving to avoid me and generally being a twunt. Roll on the weekend.

Had my first puncture in ages coming through Richmond Park this morning.
Conveniently there was a tree stump with a hole in the middle, which made a great workbench. https://photos.app.goo.gl/WAsfHndpHidn46Mc6
I obviously wasn't the first person to think so because some a-hole had discarded their old tube on the floor next to it :x

Quiet out there this morning, I came through the Park but Putney wasn't the chaos I had expected. Did far too much work for having a dodgy knee and back this week.

a weird phenomenon on the ride home last night. Due to a diversion in front of Parliament i was forced north around Parliament square and away from Millbank and around the back streets eventually ending up approaching Vauxhall Bridge from the north and then turning right onto the Cycle superhighway again.

However because it's not easy/possible to turn right there on the road I made my way across the pedestrian crossings to get back onto Embankment and then headed off.

The weird thing was that I was then out of sync with the cars and other cyclists and so had a traffic/cyclist free ride all the way along to Battersea bridge. It felt very weird being able to cruise along there at my own pace without having to fight for my spot in the usual commuter peloton.

Ok, not really an scr type myself as I actively avoid the routes that attract the "wannabe Wiggins" but I found myself drawn into some action this morning.
A usual early start meant empty roads and an easy spin through flat 20mph zone at 20mph. Cue roaring engine behind to complete the holy Trinity of MGIF, dangerous overtake (brow of hill, through roundabout) to slam on brakes at red lights to stop beyond the ASL. I pull into ASL just behind. Lights green, he roars off to slam in brakes for speed bumps and I serenely pass him uphill as he repeats accelerate/brake for speed bumps. He fails to keep up to next junction. Me 1, tit in car 0

    Knew it...

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonrei ... nds-study/
Nick Day of Chris Knott Insurance said an analysis of his firm's crash data showed that cyclists make less than half the number of insurance claims as non-cyclists.

13% of the firm’s insured drivers make at least one claim per year, found Day, but this fell to 6% for cyclists who were insured on the firm’s cyclist-driver policy.

Day believes cyclists tend to be more aware of their surroundings than motorists.

That's only part of the story though. Cyclists may make fewer insurance claims, but they're also responsible for causing other people to have more accidents by:
    - Riding too slowly, forcing drivers to overtake in dangerous locations
    - Riding too fast, causing drivers to misjudge the cyclist's speed
    - Not riding on the cycle path, forcing drivers to overtake dangerously
    - Causing collisions and near misses by appearing literally from nowhere
    - Not wearing high-vis clothing
    - Wearing brightly-coloured lycra
    - Not wearing helmets
    - Riding on the pavement
    - Not riding on the pavement

In that case the only logical solution is to make all drivers ride bikes and all cyclists drive cars.

    Safer all round

Some of the skills are quite transferrable: anyone who has survived a 4th Cat crit should be well equipped to deal with the homicidal minicab drivers on the M4 near Heathrow; anyone who can win the start of an ungridded cyclocross race will have no trouble with the peage queue on a busy French motorway.

I'm not sure I want to contemplate transferring those skills in the opposite direction...

Nice one MTB-idle. Love Joni Mitchell. Weird question, but did you ask me about why I had foam on my shorts on a wet ride home a couple odd weeks back? Definitely a guy on a spesh single speed.

  guilty as charged yer 'onour

Yes that was me, just by the junction for Tooting Hospital. That really wet Friday evening when 'light rain' was forecast; 'light rain my arse' as Jim Royle might say.

Which seems appropriate as you had this weird foaming effect on the rear of your shorts. It wasn't a small bit there was loads of it; like you had hand washed your shorts and not rinsed all the soap out.

The fact that they were sopping wet and your weight on the the saddle was squashing presumably the pad and the foam was being formed.

Did you find out what it was?

Just inside Ham gate in Richmond Park, I was just behind a car, and a guy in Rapha kit decided to try and overtake the car on the uphill, then he shouts abuse at the driver for driving (I think). He went full beans up the hill, and I went past him, and then on the flat across the middle, he went back past me. After a bit I passed him again, looked round to check he was still in my draft, and he'd disappeared. A definite victory.
