It's shocking not only in terms of the incident itself but the fact that the po po didn't even bother to get the CCTV footage. The victim had to do it himself once he dragged himself from his hospital bed and also they haven't even bothered apprehending the 'suspect' either.

Seriously, they DGAF about your lives.

Yeah I did. The casual nature in driving away is scary!

It can't be a coincidence someone drives on the wrong side, hits someone without even hinting hitting the brakes hard, returns to the correct lane and drives away without even looking.

Absolutely shocking and must have been terrifying for the cyclist in the few moments before the collision. An absolute nightmare scenario.

It could quite easily be accidental. Not paying attention and/or driving erratically, drifts to wrong side of road, hits cyclist, swerves back to correct side and drives off. An apparent lack of braking would be just as consistent with the driver not realising he's about to have a collision as it would with him deliberately causing it (although I actually think he does slow a bit between coming into view and the collision. He's clearly speeding when he comes into view). I don't think the footage is clear enough to discern much about the driver's reaction but he could be using his mirrors to look back.

Saying it's likely an accident is not to downplay how unbelievably reckless and callous the driver is, but it's still more likely than it being a deliberate act. Hit and runs are sadly not uncommon.

Let me be absolutely clear (too much time in the brexit thread), I don't think this is necessarily a hit. As Gallywomack says, there are a number of things that could have led to such a crash.

Now, bear in mind I am neither a lawyer or a PC, and that I have next to no experience with law & crime. However, from what I see and knowing about cases where people have attempted to murder someone using a car [1], I'd probably perform a few checks just to be on the safe side.

Some of the pedestrians of Croydon were plumbing new depths of stupidity this morning.

Encountered my first annoying electric scooter user today. Out in the traffic like a cyclist, 20mph everywhere, no fear or common sense. Kept positioning himself to my right, stopping me moving out to overtake slow cars, but because he had no top end he couldn't overtake them himself. First met him in Richmond Park, didn't shake him off until Putney Bridge.

Don't think he'll last long in the Winter though; dark clothing, and his only lights are 2" above ground level.

After a weekend rattling around on gravel with the wife & daughter, a bolt in my saddle clamp decided to fail with an almighty bang in Colliers Wood this morning. First available and open bike shop was Evans in Clapham, who sold me a cheap and cheerful seatpost. That's about as far as I fancy riding without a saddle.

I feel your pain. I lived there for 12 years - and couldn't even escape its clutches when I moved out to Reigate (and had to commute through there for a further two)

Back at it, bit of residual knee pain that stopped play on my cycling Jolly but good to see hoards of cyclists but rubbish to see their cycling skills.

I feel like i've twinged my back from being hunched over holding up a 4 year old on his bike but I got 10 seconds of clear cycling out of him so that's an offspring taught to cycle ticked off my parental bucket list.

You passed me on Queen's Ride, so I had a good view of the manner in which he was riding.

At first, I thought he was drafting you. Then, when he seemed closer to the right-hand pavement than the cars in our lane, I did wonder WTAF he was doing.

Passed him on the NKR, until he ploughed on through a ped crossing (schoolgirl was crossing at the time).

The rear lights on those things are comically bad.

I probably saw the same guy in Richmond park this morning - it didn't look like much fun going over the cobble speed bump things near Ham Gate Ave on those tiny wheels. Do they have brakes? I can't imagine you could stop very quickly without being catapulted over the bars.

I was an hour later than usual this morning because I had to drop off a hire van from a weekend trip to leeds - the traffic queues around the Kingston gate closure were pretty brutal looking - it was back down Park Road almost as far as Kingston hill

There's a guy I see in Canary Wharf on an e-scooter that actually looks fairly cool (always bearing in mind that he is a grown man on a scooter but hey, we are grown men (mainly) riding push bikes so whatever), dressed in black with a black full face and dark visor, if he had a cape he would look like Darth Vader (if Darth Vader rode an e-scooter)..

There's a guy a bit like this who rides an electric skateboard along the Embankment; if I recall correctly he looks like Black Stig.

He must be a regular. Think I probably saw him last week in the park. Going over the speed bumps up by Pembroke Lodge.

What camera do people recommend for handlebar mount for commuting? Don't want to spend stupid money, looking at Yi Lite at about £100 all in.

depends what you want from the camera.

I don't record my commutes per se but when I want some footage for editing a cycling movie I will use my GoPro. I love it for various reasons, others hate it as will probably be shown below.

PT and Brommie, a very wet ar5e so one can only assume brommie mudguards to sweet FA.

So many able bodied mugs on the slow train as usual, who honestly piles on the Clapham Junction thinking this is a good idea?

People who didn't start their train journey at Clapham?

I used to do Richmond-Victoria by train, changing from a Waterloo-bound train to a Victoria-bound train at Clapham. Seemed to be as many people switching the other way, heading towards Waterloo.

I agree there will be but there will still be plenty of people boarding, similar to Wandsworth Town or Earlsfield. I can whinge all I like but no one is going to build them decent safe infrastructure quickly.

On that note: Wood Lane consultation here

Fingers and feet were numb after this morning's ride.

Are these folk who queue along Queen's Ride and the Lower Richmond Road because of the Hammersmith Bridge closure going to do this for the rest of their working life?

Lots of diesel around on the SW commuting corridor this morning for some reason. Even though I've got mudguards, it seems most other people don't: a showering of road filth was inevitable. Grim.

I stand by my previous comments about people who commute in towns without mudguards, super selfish if you ask me
