Silly commuting racing

Felt very, very wrong today. Met 29 of cyclists compared to my normal 0, and didn't overtake (or get overtaken by) another cyclist - didn't see one going in my direction at all, compared to the 6-7 I normally meet.
Probably something about fair weather cyclists...Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.
Bike 1 (Broken) - Bike 2(Borked) - Bike 3(broken spokes) - Bike 4( Needs Work) - Bike 5 (in bits) - Bike 6* ...0 -

Top marks for the inconsiderate plank playing crap music from a speaker mounted on his handle bars today. Aero helmet and bars, naturally. Can he not afford headphones or does he think we all want to hear his "gym session" playlist?
Haha on an old school trek frame too? Came across him at the vauxhall bridge lights going into town. Managed to get past him through millbank.0 -
A lovely ride in was interrupted by hitting the deck on the Kings Road near the zebra crossing @ Hortensia Road. Got caught out by a truck stopping quickly as I was shoulder checking to pull into the right hand lane. Missed the truck but not the pavement.0

Grotty looking accident had just happened between Clapham north and stockwell. Possibly motorcycle on pushbike. Certainly a smoking motorbike on the deck, with a prone motorcyclist in the gutter. Also a pushbike on the floor, but he may have stopped to help the motorcyclist as I didn't see anyone else looking injured - lots of people helping out, and sirens approaching, so I carried on.
Lovely weather - tan lines developing.0 -

All good mostly thanks hb. Bit of embarrassment and a sore back but thats it. Bike's fine managed to stack it on the non drive side which is a bonus, would have been pissed if id scratched up the new chainset I put on a week ago!0 -
There seemed a cap on the Chopperdom this morning, I didn't see the remains of that accident but was running late so I assume behind you?
Got to see someone with Tri bars in Kingston (luckily had a jersey with please give 1.5m warning on the back) keel over stopped at some lights the other night to my amusement (he was ok).If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.0 -

No chance. Managed to get in there around 6.30am, but I didn't pass anyone resembling him.FCN 2-4.

Was it me, or was the traffic along the NKR and over Putney Bridge super-super-super screwed last night?
Also, Met police officers were parked up just before Battersea Bridge telling cyclists they "should be on the road", not the path.
Is that not a cycle lane anymore?FCN 2-4.

An unpleasant Bristolian commute this morning. 400m from home rain started and proceeded to carry on for the rest of the ride. Fortunately I'd taken the precaution of sticking on a convertible perfetto but could do nothing about the rest of me getting drenched. Being Bristol at 6.45am means very little SCR for me unfortunately and even less in the rain.0

With the number of nodders in the Big Smoke at the moment, that sounds like bliss.
As rower said a couple of months or so ago, the shoulder check should be on the national curriculum. The number of folks who just pull out never ceases to amaze me, although it seems to happen more in the segregated bike lane than the open roads, and I wonder if that's because they don't perceive bikes to be a danger in the same way as cars.FCN 2-4.

I know it's getting dull, but having bouncers to keep pedestrians off the road on Hammersmith Bridge is great. It's what segregated bike lanes would be like if people didn't just treat them as more pavement.0

A tangent, but this is one argument in favour of *not* banning cars from Richmond Park. Without cars, it becomes the equivalent of a free-range chicken farm.FCN 2-4.

Also last night:
Approaching the traffic lights at the end of the NKR, opposite the Temperance pub and the for the left turn into the foothills of Col du Putney Bridge, I'm on the outside because cars have made the bike lane a bit iffy, and about give yards from that road furniture/pedestrian gathering point in the middle of the road opposite Majestic, and a fella sweeps out from the bike lane, between the car, prompting me into some emergency evasive manoeuvres.
His response?
"WATCH OUT!"
I give him a quizzical look and suggest that he should look where he's going.
He then jumps the lights at the south of Putney Bridge onto the Lower Richmond Road, and turns off at the Thai Square.

Agree 100%. If reducing traffic is the aim, I'd be in favour of barriers so cars have to exit through the same entrance they came into. No cars would be horrendous.0 -

Unfortunately although there's few about, the proportion of morons is high. Nothing beats overtaking a random on a BSO to then have them trundle by 2 mins later through the red light I'm waiting at.0 -
Got overtaken by a chap in Bushy Park last night as I was caught napping, probably at least 10 years older than me riding a rather fancy silver SWorks. Caught him again and he moaned about the wind, commented he hoped it would be easier today as he was riding to Coventry. Found him through the Flyby on Strava, his ride yesterday was 107 miles. He averages over 700 miles a week!0
