Whenever I search on twitter for info, there's the same woman tweeting how it's terrible that it takes an hour to drive from Barnes to take her kid to school in Mortlake. If only everyone else would stop taking unnecessary journeys.

yeah, if only those bloomin' cyclists would get off the road it would make it much clearer and quicker for everyone. Wouldn't it?

I hope they're right about traffic levels dropping over time; LRR was backed up all the way from Putney Bridge to the Col de Bolan this morning...

To be fair, the alternatives are probably worse; even with bus lanes, it's rare that travelling by bus works out quicker than driving, and I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to do it by bike with the current infrastructure. It's a tragedy of the commons; if everyone switched to the buses they'd be way quicker, but a single individual will still beat the bus (at everyone else's expense) by driving. Add to that the fact that school-run-parents always seem to be running late (when every morning's the same, how hard can it be?!?) and it's tough to get them out of their cars.

Not that it'll help that lady but there is a bus lane all the way up to the bridge and walking across it to Hammersmith station/bus garage is 5 mins, i'd have thought with a general reduction in traffic getting the bus and then walking should make zero difference to timing.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Th bus is MUCH quicker than it was down Castelnau and to URR. I work in Hammersmith, and now if I take public transport, I walk across the bridge and take the bus.

I might ask her why she doesn't walk, but Twitter doesn't work like that, it would probably sound like a cultural attack.

Ah yes, Sarah Smith. I considered posting a response but then checked her Twitter feed and sense of self-entitlement and realised I would just be p*ssing in the wind.

I just had to go and find that, how come there are no replies?

Else a lovely bit of sunshine ruined by a head wind, traffic and the Nodderpocalypse.

Was in on the good bike for a bike fit later, only issue being that 20 minutes before leaving the house the bike was still in the bike box from holiday with me thinking the skewers I coudn't find had been left in Italy.

Same, from Balham onwards I just cruised in the mass. Nearly got taken out by a runner on the entry to Sex Panther who didnt look before trying to cross. Regardless of this it was still my fault "for going to quick"....clearly not seen my strava account

Out of interest where are you getting your fit done?

First commute on the SS today... that was actually quite fun :) Apart from half killing the freehub-in-a-cog thing so it now only engages in a couple places. I heard they were a bit crap so think I'll switch to fixed.

No real challengers. Lots of shoalers and lots and lots of traffic, seemingly mostly buses and coaches

First day with the new wheels (Hunts), new tires (GP5000), new general setup (tubeless), new cassette and new chain. The wheels felt good but I've changed so many variables who knows what is helping!

Windier than I thought, which didn't help the overall time but I got a few PBs. Lots of people out there today, summer has finally hit <sigh>

Mine is actually tomorrow night at Velo Physio in Clapham as am on the brommie tomorrow and needed get the good bike in, I figured I'd try to solve two problems in one go. Quite well recommended and I prefer the idea of not going to do it in a bike shop where their advice may well be to buy a £5k bike off them.

Enjoying a rather slack time at work at the moment, so turning up at 9:30, and leaving at 4:30, amazing how much quieter it is at those times, although it does mean hitting more traffic further out at both ends of the day!

A bit less noddergeddon-y for sure, which is nice! Quick guy in Specialized Cvndsh kit yesterday on a Cannondale, he put the hammer down coming through Roehampton Gate and was long gone!

Lol, yes this has happened to me in the past! Need to get a fit done myself but some some the prices you see about are abit steep. Velo Physio looks like a good shout so thanks.

    Choppers everywhere. Faaaaaaaazands of 'em.

The highlight was one chap, head down, down on the drops and with his yellow hi-viz jacket undone and flapping in the wind, tried to squeeze between me and a car when I was in the right half of the cycle lane, just after Victoria Bridge. I looked back, and could only muster a "Cool your jets, Lance."

Perhaps a daily "If A Red Setter Rode A Bike Award" is needed.

Very similar last night; I was taking advantage of the tail wind along URR leaving a huffing and puffing Nodder behind, but I didn't make the lights at the Queen's Ride junction so he caught up. He set off head down into heavy traffic caused by a broken down bus on the other side of the traffic. There was a second bus already at an angle attempting to round said obstacle and I watched as Nodderboy rode straight into the side of it.

Of course, it was the fault of the bus.

I meant to ask yesterday, is the Aero helmet (even one yesterday with integrated visor) the new Hockey sock?

Sounds like me. Infrequent early finish yesterday so was enjoying the sun and lack of nodders compared to my usual commute time. Had dropped the hammer from pen ponds and nice clear run all the way to Lock Road. Few PBs in the bag.

Massive chopperthon this morning. Lots of sparkly nice bikes out so assume the Cat5's have started a new season. Did spot Rower on the exit of priory lane blast past me giving it the beans. Looked like an SCR engagement as there was another in tow......did you win???

First commute in a couple of months following paternity leave and first few weeks of just being fecking knackered and sleep deprived.

Got a good 5 and a half hours sleep last night and the weather looked (relatively) awesome so commuted in. Decided that I would take it very easy as I need to be able to make it home tonight. Was going past Mitcham Green, doing a decent 32km/h and got smoked by a chap on a white Boardman and flouro helmet, but stayed true to my plan and didn't pursue.

Sat in behind (not drafting) a chap in KWCC bibs (didn't look like Kingston Wheelers bibs, some other KWCC), flouro longsleeve/arm warmers on a black cannondale from Colliers Wood to Clapham South as he was riding at a sensible pace and riding properly (e.g. stopping at lights, giving way when needed, not being a dick), but he got held up at the foot of Col du Balham, so upped the revs and overtook, so i count that as a scalp...

Yeah, quite a few choppers on the way in, quite a few in cycling gear (bibs etc), but on hybrids by my recollection, all jumping red lights.

Took the embankment last night given I was on the good bike and the sun was out, honestly it was an utter sh1t show all the way as far as Priory Lane.

Silver lining was almost getting doored by Farage and his heavies emerging from a Range Rover (man of the people) as I did the detour around parliament square. He was moving fast I guess to avoid general abuse or being hit with a milkshake.

No not really. He let me get a bit ahead a few times but I wasn't fooled. He cruised past me whenever he felt like it although we did more or less stay together the distance. Mark Aldred, GBR rowing team at Rio. Was amusing seeing a colleague (a 110kg man-mountain who played rugby for Western Cape, SA, and who has a huge 400m burst in his arsenal) completely blow up trying to stay with Mark.
Some cups into headwind along the Rosslyn Park-Bolan stretch testifies to how hard I was being made to work, before I realized it was Mark.

He's also very good at hill climbs and TTs. Not Okgo level for TTs, but better than your average mortal.

Bumped into him along Embankment the autumn after Rio (when he came whizzing past with an entourage in tow on the way home), when he was just getting back into riding. He was quick enough back then, so I dread to think how quickly he'd distance me now.

Bloomin heck - am off the bike/commute for a few weeks and come back to total carnage! Where are all these bikes when it's dark, cold and wet?

Top marks for the inconsiderate plank playing crap music from a speaker mounted on his handle bars today. Aero helmet and bars, naturally. Can he not afford headphones or does he think we all want to hear his "gym session" playlist?
