I don't recall being overtaken by a 12 year old girl last night.
Nice to see frogonabike this morning, though he left me grovelling in his wake somewhat, as my legs are stinging after 2 consectutive high mileage (for me) days. I was please when he turned off, and I could resume my dawdle. Overtaken by all the PE shorted hordes, but I swallowed my pride and never rose to the bait.0 -
Likewise Hopkins, always nice to say hello. I did also have a bit of inner rage driving me on today after the Cube got stolen last night!
If anyone spots a "white n red" (colour and model name) Cube Cross Race with full length SKS guards and Cosine wheels with XT rotors being ridden by some scrote in Hackney please do let me know...0 -
Just a quick note to say it was fecking busy out there this morning. Bicycle and vehicular carnage right from the moment I pulled away and almost took out my next-door neighbour...
Happily though, everyone was well behaved - except, that is, for the driver of a 20 billion tonne truck who started to pull over and park with no thought of indicating, and in doing so nearly squashed a race-snake on a Cannondale.
In other news, I latched on to the RCC guys through the park as I know one of the riders... Good fun! Looking forward to a sunny ride home!0 -
I nearly ran over a dog, twice.
Little brown fucker was out for a jog with it's owner and off lead when it ran straight across the junction I was turning into. Owner didn't give two hoots.
Turns out they were going the opposite way round the block to me and as I was delayed by a truck it happened again as I was pulling up outside the office. Was preparing some choice invective for the owner when he made it round the corner, but then realised that I was standing in the doorway at work and it would have reflected badly.Mud - Genesis Vapour CCX

I saw someone taken out on the Embankment Superhighway this morning. Overtaking a Boris bike heading East under Hungerford Bridge, when the Boris biker decided to turn right, with no apparent warning, onto the pavement. Fortunately both remained upright; good reactions from the overtaker, who also diverted onto the pavement.
The Embankment Superhighway reminds me of those 3-lane A-roads we used to have, with one lane in each direction and a third lane down the middle that can be used for overtaking in either direction. I'm amazed we don't have more head-on collisions...Pannier, 120rpm.0 -
Maybe this is for the noddergeddon thread but yesterday I had two people travelling in the same direction attempt right turns without so much as a glance or indication. Both avoided and both acknowledged my polite request to look and signal, for everyones' benefit0

Hammersmith bridge now has barriers dissuading pedestrians from using the road and barriers separating north and southbound bike traffic. Gets better and better.
It's like having people there observing how people use the road means it becomes obvious what works.0 -
That must be new today, I'm sure it wasn't like that at 7:30 (or equally likely, I was half asleep and didn't notice)
Delightfully little traffic for the second half of my commute today, between the Kingston gate and hammersmith bridge closures. Also thanks to the cyclists who pointed out that the temporary lights on Villiers rd are stuck on red so I could stop my embarrassing, wobbly track stand.0 -

Welcome to the club. I told someone her dog was out of control (she was walking, the bi..smuth was jogging happily 10-15 meters behind). I was told "I represented all that was wrong with cyclists", and that her dog was perfectly in control. As I stopped, the dog was running towards me and jumping playfully to my legs. Then the owner admitted this "perfectly controlled dog" was 6-months old, and under training. Ergo, "perfectly under control" my bottom.
I must, however, reflect if people are scared by bikes coasting at 15 mph 3 meters from them on shared paths. Well-oiled bikes are probably too silent when approaching from behind.0 -
Clap clap, Richmond Council.
Keep right sign plonked in the cycle lane heading Westbound on Hampton Ct Road. Appears to be serving no purpose besides potentially injuring an unsuspecting cyclist. It's the full width of the cycle lane.0 -
a fairly uneventful commute today, only worthy of note in that:
- I finally got back on the bike. I haven't cycle commuted for two weeks for which I have various excuses which if I'm honest with myself can all be categorised as 'CBA'
- consequently I was weak as a kitten but strangely enjoyed it
- blonde pony tail on a celeste Condor. Nice bike
- the world seems to have shrunk. My standard commute from Ewell to Canary Wharf is 28.2km. It has been for the ten years that I have been cycle-commuting that particular route (and was no doubt that distance before I cycle-commuted). this morning it was 26.3km. I noted it read that when I ended the ride on my Garmin. I thought oh well, it will probably amend it when I upload it to Strava. Nope, 26.3km. I appear to have lost 0.9km somewhere; how remiss of me.
I look forward to this evening's commute home.FCN = 40 -

Easy enough to test; on the way home, stay North of the River until you get to Putney Bridge, by which time you're clear of the dragon zone. If the distance measured increases, that proves the dragon took it.Pannier, 120rpm.0 -

Surely it's warning cyclists to keep to the right of the sign. Safety first.0 -

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Based on this recent undoctored picture, he would be incinerated on Grosvenor Road if he stayed north of the river, but merely in the shadow of the angry beast if he ventured south.

That's just like the dragons on Game of Thrones.
The EPO didn't fall for my Kingston Gate being shut ruse and pointed out that Ham Gate isn't far.0 -

Apart from the flames and fire, it almost looks doable in Strava. Just sayin...0 -

Can't view the picture from work, will keep a lookout for dragons this evening and then have a look when I get home.Pannier, 120rpm.0 -

Hahahaaaaa...
ISTR that the last cycle commute I did before I lost my mojo was along this very same route. All was going fine until entered RP from Priory Lane and turned left. It was only when I hit Broomfield hill* that I remembered I was on my 48:16 Langster singlespeed.
My knees were almost exploding as some chap breezed by me saying something along the lines of "I'm impressed you are riding this climb on that set-up" although that could have been Captain Sub-text for 'you are an idiot'
*yes, bike is positioned as though I am going to ride down Broomfield but it was all about the pic i.e. chainset in front. I can assure you I rode up and not a dragon there be in sight the whole time..FCN = 40 -

I imagine that would be quite tough! I ride 48:17 on my Carlton, and that's about the most I'd be happy with going up Broomfield on a regular basis. 52:19 on the Pete Luxton. With the difference in wheels size (Carlton is 700x28c, PL is 27x1 1/4"), they both equate to 75 gear inches, which I believe is optimum for being able to get up Broomfield, plus being able to keep up with everyone else on the Victoria Embankment1938 Hobbs Tandem

I must have ridden passed the site of the fire within half an hour of it all kicking off last night. As I don't normally ride that way I got PB's on Church Road and the quiet bit of Latchmere Lane. Had a bit of SCR with a serial red light jumping Allez man through Twickenham to Richmond. I think he jumped 3 sets of lights at least, I made a point of passing him as quickly as I could each time. I slowed right down passing the queuing traffic coming up to the roadworks at St Margarets and he caught me at the lights. I glared at him as he pulled up and miraculously he stayed just to the right and behind me. I was passing the traffic on the approach to the bridge on the right as I prefer it to being in the gutter cycle lane and he looked like he was trying to the left as I slowed to allow a motorcycle going the other way through a gap. Got a bit of space and carried on, didn't see him again after that. I think that scalp was truly mine in spite of his disqualification. I was cooked by the time I got to the top of the hill, but it was good fun.0 -
40km commute in this morning and didn't see another bike until Bromley.
Glad Hogtrough isn't on my regular commute. That's not a good way to warm up.0 -
I forgot to ask, how did you all do at the London Marathon on Sunday?
Last year I managed 3 hours and 12 minutes. My target was to beat that this year but inevitably I got bored and switched over to something else.FCN = 40 -
I ride through here quite a bit and likely often used by any Regent's Park lot, I'm dubious of people who wear woolly hats under a helmet at the best of times however words fail me on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4JdDufwkxQ
He's very lucky to get away lightly and I hope didn't impede the fire engine much longer!Thresholds, 60-80%, HRM's...I'll just go for a ride0 -
