Mads Pederson (Trek - Segafredo) wins the fifth and final (ITT) stage of Bessèges. Neilson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost) does enough (just) to beat Mattias Skjelmose (Trek) and takes the GC.

Ineos' 18 year old neo-pro, Josh Tarling took second on the stage, which definitely warrants a mention.

    Thanks.

Some peculiar tactics in that race.

Was interesting how no body was watching costa ... Ineos letting the wheel go with arnesman rolling off the front may have worked for a stage win if only he hadn't done so much work earlier., Ran out of legs in the sprint .

  • A classic case of the guy sitting just behind immediate rivals being allowed up the road while they continue to watch each other.

One for the congested calendar debate.
After last week’s glut of racing, we have ourselves a dead week.
The only scheduled race was due to be the Tour of Provence, but the French fed refused to sanction this edition.

There are a few lightweight one day races over the weekend and highlights only Oman.

I agree @blazing_saddles. Now would be a good time for those Mallorca races.

Cavendish is listed by procycling stats for UAE tour
    - and Oman
  • I quite like the tour of Oman, bit more interesting than the others in the region. Only stage one would be for Cavendish though. Stiff finishes on all the others.

That's normal, isn't it? Cavendish is never on it at his first race, it always takes him a few race days to get to a position where he can be competitive. I haven't checked, but he usually does a race in the middle east before the UAE Tour.

Sure, but I hadn't seen any mention of his schedule since moving

Yeah, I like Oman too and it is certainly the country in that region I would most like to visit (in a large part due to the cycling coverage).

Dubai might be better off trying not to advertise itself. What a dump

  • But will his sunglasses sponsor situation be sorted by then?
  • Muscat Classic is on tiz with arabic commentary. No idea what's going on, but looks like they might be fairly close to the finish from the shape of the peloton.

Think they've just gone over the Hamriyah climb. 20km to go.

Group of about 20 are clear.

4km to go, no idea who is left in the front group that has a sprint, but they are over the last climb.

In exciting news, Arkea seem to be pushing it
  • And they take a win! Biermans wins the sprint.

No idea if they plan to do the same for Oman tomorrow, but there’s the usual highlights only on GCN/ES player.
Not exactly what I would describe as a sprinter friendly route as every stage finishes either on an uphill drag (stage 1) or full on climb. (All the other stages)

Ben Turner takes his first pro win in the uphill sprint in the Tour of Murcia or whatever it's called these days.

Commentary equally as informative as Carlton for me.

Astana went too early given the uphill finish, and Merlier just got it right.

No idea what ag2r were doing hammering it from several kms out.
  • I am liking this new Portuguese race, currently live on GCN/Eurosport.
Splendid parcour. Hard, but not too hard.

  • There's a cracking little race around the Spanish vineyards on GCN/Eurosport in one hours time. Very much their version of Strade Bianche. Last year was the inaugural edition, won by Astana's Alexey Lutsenko.

This year it's gone up a notch, as Tadej Pogacar is on the startlist.

Looks to be run the opposite way to last year - the final climb on gravel was quite something and that's not in it this year.
  • Pog rides away on a gravel uphill section with 42km to go, now has about a minute with 26km to go.
