I think I remember you saying there's a 20mph limit in the middle of your village... would you be in favour of raising that back to 30mph?
As already explained there are a few cases where a 20mph limit is reasonable and the case in my village is one of those."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
And a victory for common sense in Cambridbe, of all places:

Loads of self-entitled people like everywhere else. Any slight inconvenience to them sends them frothing at the mouth whereas them inconveniencing others is obviously fine.Stevo_666 said:
I guess here must a lot of thickos in Wales then, given that the petition has almost 450,000 signaturesPross said:My favourite is the argument that 20mph is less safe because either a) "you're constantly looking at your speedo", apparently 20mph is some weird speed people need to stare at their speedo to comply with whereas higher speeds (when looking at your speedo would be even more dangerous) don't require this or b) "you're going to drive into the back of other cars more often because they are going so slowly" for some reason driving below 30mph must stop you being able to see things in front of you and / or operate the brakes.
The main mouthpiece arguing against the 20mph limits in the Welsh Government is the thickasshit Tory candidate in my constituency.
Anyway, the vote of no confidence in Lee Waters failed miserably which is hardly a surprise considering the policy had been voted through with a big majority just a couple of weeks ago as it had when originally proposed. If they wanted a vote of no confidence in him then it would have been better to have used his block on building any new major roads in Wales which is pretty flawed in my opinion.0 -

Thanks. So what is the reason it's sensible in your village?0 -
Blanket speed limits are ridiculous, we should have a blanket 30mph is the policy?0
-
Got to be honest. 20mph as a speed to travel at hasn't been so bad.
However, the long trains of cars that are forming is ridiculous. T junctions have become a tedious joke. Cars just pull out whether or not there's a gap.
Traffic chicanes where cars coming the other way have priority are like black holes. You wonder if you're ever going to escape. I lost 20 minutes on a 10 minute drive yesterday due to one of those.
Traffic calming needs a radical redesign to compensate for this 20mph speed limit.0 -
Are they doing 20? If so, what's the issue?0

I agree. The speed at which my wife swipes the blanket off me during winter is incredible!kingstongraham said:Blanket speed limits are ridiculous,...

So slowing traffic down makes it less likely that someone will be seriously injured, I guess. Good idea.0 -

Glad you agree that slowing cars down can improve safety.
'Most' people in Wales support the 20mph limit in urban areas. 46/34, which is rather more convincing that 52/48.

I thought we'd established that there weren't blanket speed limits. There's even a helpful map identifying all the bits that aren't 20mph.Stevo_666 said:

Not to mention that there is "blanket" support for the policy in Wales as shown above, and contrary to what Sunak says. He really is desperate for motorists votes. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Yeah, it's not at all subtle, is it. All on the back of a by-election that they only just avoided losing, with a 7.4% swing away from the Tories. But if that's their definition of 'success'...0 -

I don't understand why drivists want more cars on the road. Anyway, sunak has launched his attack on people who like roads to allow movement and people not to be frightened.0
