  • Estimated 14 hour queue now, so if you haven't joined it now, you won't get to gawp at the special vigil this evening.
  • How long was the queue when they released the last version of the iPhone?

I can see a small section of the queue (near the tate modern) from my office window but it seems to vary between not being there at all and being a fast(ish) moving line. Certainly by 10am I had seen the queue moving.

I suspect that the line is held back for a bit and then released, either to stop congestion in busy areas, or to allow people to have a rest rather than constantly shuffling along for 8 hrs.

At 10.45 this morning there was no queue under Waterloo Bridge though it was being reported it was back to HMS Belfast. At 4.45 pm there cerainly was a queue but they were all moving forward at a brisk walking pace.

If there is such a thing as Charing X bridge then they were dinitely there at 9:00am and 7pm yesterday. I was surprised how fast they were moving, it looked like a bunch of ramblers doing their stuff

Technically it's the Hungerford and Golden Jubilee bridges, but still I think we know where we were talking about.

They are trying to stop anyone joining the queue for a few hours as its so long, but people are ignoring it. Apparently there is a queue for the queue in Southwatrk Park :)

hopefully this will panic the nutters and we will see a ratcheting up of the madness to interesting levels

:) Sounds like it might precipitate a mad rush - a bit like the bog roll buying frenzy from early Covid times.

Anyone got a link to a live feed of Southwark Park?

  • If everyone is queuing along the river, could they not just put the coffin on a boat and sail it past the hordes. The whole thing could be done in an hour and everyone back on their trains and planes to the distant places wherever they came from.

Plan B would be to put the coffin in one of the pods on the London Eye, but maybe that is a little insensitive ....

Since they can't see who or what is in the coffin, a few replicas could speed things up considerably. Unfortunately somebody might twig eventually.

Southwark Park closed for 6 hours to let the queue die down. I think they are showing a lack of ambition - Greenwhich Park is only another 3 miles.

  • Any chance they delay the funeral/bank holiday to give people more time to queue... maybe this all thing could go on until Christmas... that'd be cool... :s

I don't understand why they don't just wait until Monday (when most people are being given a free day off) and see it drive past them on the funeral route.

The wife seems to have seen sense and accepted it isn't worth the queue when we are up tomorrow but she is now going to lay flowers at Green Park instead.

Queue up to 24 hours now. I wonder when they’ll close it as it won’t go down well if people queue for a full day only to get there too late.
  • Sticking with my prediction that the longest queue time will be if you join it tomorrow morning.

What sort of brain dead forelock tugger wants to queue for 24 hours to shuffle past an empty box? Weirdos.

The longer the queue and the worse the weather the more they can bore people to tears.
  • I think the queue is part of the attraction - 24 hours is probably pushing it though.

Standing up for 24 hours and shuffling 10 miles along the south bank over 24 hours is a pretty tough physical challenge, especially for the elderly ones (and there are plenty of them). I'm surprised so many of them are managing it without collapsing.

On the plus side, the sleep deprivation probably adds to the surreal religious vibe at the end.
