Wiebes seems to be moving okay, though the skin wounds look painful.

If I were commentating on this my inner Kirby would absolutely not be able to resist suggesting that Marie Le Net was losing her head, or possibly riffing on her order at café stops during training ride.

(also the passive aggressive tension in the commentary box about whether to voice the 't' at the end of Le Net is genuinely making me feel nervous)

Just for the record, if English coms are pronouncing Cecilie as "Sessily" then they're breaking my heart, they're raising my blood pressure daily. Say "Cecilie", I'm down on my knees, I'm begging you please...

Watched on my mobile in a waiting room. They are going to regret not putting AvV out the race.

On pronunciations I've noticed that the British commentators pronounce Vos's name Marianna whereas the Europeans seem to say Marianne. I haven't noticed what Iris says as I would guess that would be the correct version.

The Tour de France Femmes saves the best for last. Stage 7 is the first of two mountainous trips into the Vosges Mountains. After three hard climbs - Petit Ballon, Platzerwasel, Grand Ballon - the finish lies near the Markstein ski station.

The Petit Ballon looms. The 9.3 kilometres climb at 8.1%

The 7.1 kilometres long Col du Platzerwasel has an average gradient of 8.3%

The Grand Ballon ascent is 13.5 kilometres long and averages 6.7%. The route does not descend after the final climb, but continues just below the ridge for 7 kilometres to Le Markstein.

    SÉLESTAT

    Population: 19,250
Specialities: Alsace wines, kougelhopf, Alsatian gastronomy. Christmas flaky tree. Narreklepfer (sausages). Alsatian beers.

    Kougelhopf
The most traditional of Alsatian cakes. The Alsatian kougelhopf is a tasty brioche with leavened dough, whose appearance is characteristic due to its mould, which gives it a high, fluted shape with a hollow in the middle.
Kougelhopf can be sweetened with sultanas soaked in rum or kirsch and almonds and usually sprinkled with icing sugar before serving. It can also be served as an aperitif in a savoury version, with bacon and nuts, accompanied by a glass of white wine or Crémant d'Alsace.
It is recognizable by its specific shape.

    LE MARKSTEIN

    Population: 1,260
    Specialities: Alsatian specialities, bäckeoffe, sauerkraut...

    Bäckeoffe
Stew of potatoes and three meats marinated in Alsatian white wine and cooked in a terrine for 24 hours (literally means "bread oven"). The Alsatian Lutheran Protestant denomination respects the tradition of the Sabbath from the Old Testament of the Bible. Baeckeoffe is therefore a dish inspired by hamin, a traditional dish of Jewish Sabbath cooking.

    I'd have to see that...
Possibly like Pogacar she's ended up saying her own name wrong because that's what everyone elses is doing.

I wish they'd cut out all the hyperbole. Everything isn't amazing or incredible or perfect.

Coverage starts on the first climb ... Not ideal

If the host broadcaster does their usual trick of not starting the live coverage until about 15 minutes into the show, they could well miss the first climb.

I don't think they understood what they have got.

Wiebes already out the back. Sounds like it's a hard pace to get in the breakaway that hasn't happened and she's suffering after yesterday's crash.

What's POE? Is it an anagram?

If Van Vleuten wins you know that many will try to make out that the Giro/Tour double is the same as the men doing it. "Contador tried, Froome tried. They both failed. Van Vleuten does it first time. How amazing!!!" sort of thing

    And she's now a DNF.

15 minutes from starting the climb and 30 minutes to climb it.
Coverage of the descent it is.

I like how I have found myself just talking about the race tactics in of itself rather than what it means ....which is a discussion after tomorrow imo

She and Vollering are off and running. The rest are straggling in their wake.
Just about to crest the top and Blythe is talking about her not being in the form to do the above.
