Saves me watching.Pross said:Corbin Strong pips Fraile to win Stage 1 of the ToB. Piddock 5th in ST.
Thought the result might be in in the ToB thread, not that I am much bothered.
That's the joke of a MTF over and done with.
I recorded it and have it on in the background, but after the Vuelta, it's a bit depressing."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
^Only had time to watch Vuelta and ToB highlights on GCN recently, and Matt Stephens is a very welcome change. Given up completely on itv4 catch-up.
The GCN Vuelta highlights have zero production, just a few semi-random bits of Kirby jibber and the finish.
But yeah, ToB very disappointing and very few proper names contesting it. The Nottingham stage will be very dull (I grew up in the area) and not even have the compensation of nice scenery. The iow stage looks promising.

Watched last 20km or so of stage 2 of the ToB, on catch up on ITV Hub, skip all those bleepin' ads and get a decent uninterrupted chunk. Quite a good finish I thought, Cees Bol only just getting it from Jake Stewart. Boulting and Millar getting a bit intense but def better than Wittermouth.0

The finish was better than I expected but didn't really come to life until the last 6(?)kms.orraloon said:Watched last 20km or so of stage 2 of the ToB, on catch up on ITV Hub, skip all those bleepin' ads and get a decent uninterrupted chunk. Porte simultaneously killed the break and brought the sprint to life.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -
Cees Bol won something?0

That will be him done for the year then.0

Thought it would of been nice to see the photo finish just to see how close it was. You'd of thought it would of been on the TOB website but that would of made sense.0

Photo finish near the end of this video from the tour website: About 6mins in.

That's not really a photo finish, it's a camera a bit behind the line - it looks a lot more clear cut on that than it really was because of the angle.flite said:

Thanks for the explanation0

Ta. Why on earth they couldn't of added that to the ToB website is baffling.kingstongraham said:

Today’s stage is almost surreal.
The most apathetic of breakaways, reluctantly being “chased” by a snoozing peloton.
Painful to watch."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
They certainly kept to the brief of trying to talk up the excitement. At one point they seemed to be suggesting the break might not get caught whereas it ended up caught too early if anything (although the graphics may have been dodgy as the gap dropped 2 minutes very quickly). They then seemed to think the Bardiani rider had a good chance of staying away. I really don't rate Millar that much, he spends loads of time saying what he thinks is going to happen then when something else happens says "see, it's like I was saying" and goes off on a completely different prediction.orraloon said:Watched last 20km or so of stage 2 of the ToB, on catch up on ITV Hub, skip all those bleepin' ads and get a decent uninterrupted chunk. The surreal tactics worked as the breakaway made it by 50 metres.

Somehow the peloton have been given the same time as the break, despite arriving six seconds after them. Which deprives Wiv-SunGod's Perry of the race lead.

Sounds like a Mickey Mouse race fix.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Here's the finish, it's close but no definite 3 second gaps there. The guy in fourth had dropped back quite a long way.

There's definitely a three second gap between 4th and 5th.0
-
Around 3 seconds according to the clock so not the 6 as first reported.
Close call though. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Like I say, it's close. 4th crosses just after the clock passes 43 seconds, 5th as it passes 46 seconds. It's about 3 seconds.andyp said:There's definitely a three second gap between 4th and 5th.

Word on the race is that Wiv-SunGod have successfully appealed and Perry will get the race leader's jersey.2

3 seconds feels way too much to not class as a gap anyway, that's got to be 30-40m at sprint speeds. Am I right in thinking that's a fairly recent change and it always used to be 1 second?0

Only on stages previously notified as expected to finish in a bunch sprint.
They say it's 50 metres, but is for safety of those not challenging for the win.0 -
Been revised because https://www.tourofbritain.co.uk/communique-stage-three-result/
"Regulation 2.3.040, as amended by the derogation, applies: a sole rider (or small group of riders) finishes ahead followed by the peloton in a bunch sprint.
The rule applies to the main peloton only"0 -

Ineos have decided it is time for the ToB to become a race today. Pidcock on the attack after some help from Fraile, taking a small group with him including Woods.0
-
Now 3 riders up front Lidcock, Teuns and Onley who looks very impressive. 4 chasing including Woods and Strong.0
-
Another dozen catching the chasers and I suspect they’ll pull the front 3 back but with quite a few of the group being Ineos, IPT and DSM they might mess up the chase.
Edit - front 3 stretching their lead now.0
