Always thought those Sky/Ineos doctors were up to something dodgy :D
  • Tours of Denmark and Limousin both start today.
GCN/Eurosport have live coverage of Limousin from 1-30pm and Denmark from 2-30pm.

Proper sprint finish coming in Denmark. They are flying.

Philipsen launches a really strong sprint, looked like he was about to celebrate, but Kooij just kept coming and outlasted him. Good sprint.
  • I wonder who went down in that crash?......

  • Both came from quite a way back, Philipsen ended up giving Kooij a lead out, both a class apart from the rest.

Kooij is having a great year and has picked up some decent scalps

Nice finish at Limousin, all being set for a second division sprint finish, but Julien Simon gives it some beans with 600m to go, gets a gap, and whoever was leading out Trentin had nothing to offer. Simon just stays away with Trentin second.
  • Movistar enjoying a positive avalanche of wins.
Aranburu makes it 2 in a week by taking stage 2 of Limousin.

There are few more ridiculous things in cycling than the King of the Mountains Jersey in the Tour of Denmark. Not the Jersey itself, the competition.

Perhaps Mr Ganna should ask him for some coaching. 3rd in the Euros today.

Stage 2 of the Vuelta has a classified 2.1km climb of 70m, and Stage 3 a 400m long 25m climb. Although it gets a bit lumper once they leave the Netherlands.

What's happened to him this season?

Too focussed on the Hour record?

Some speculation; post Olympic malaise, different program (Tour vs Giro, riding Roubaix) and shifting focus, suffering in the hot European summer (last win was June), and his closest rivals getting better.

He's still won 4 of 8 TTs this season. I think some drop off was going to happen eventually.

Comedy finale in Limousin when Rui Costa missed the turn at 1.6km out. Poorly signed & marshalled I think.
Most of breakaway looked like they would wait for him, but eventual sprint won by Ulissi, so at least UAE got the win.

They waited for Guillaume Martin, who, as soon as he got back on, promptly attacked them.
    Tres sneaky I thought.

Yesterday's stage in Denmark was a monster 240km featuring lots of pretty rough gravel sections. Still came down to a sprint, won by Klooij from Laporte and Cort.
GC is still Sheffield, though Laporte is on the same time.

Just watching some of it now.
Nice gravel sections, which caused a few difficulties, shame about the flat 40kms of nothing finale.
Overall going to be decided by bonus seconds which, lets be honest, is a bit rubbish.

    Yeah, it's a shame really.

Philipsen takes stage 4 in a pretty chaotic long sprint. No gc change of note

I finished stage 3, but only had time to watch a couple of kms of today's stage.
Tomorrow is a bit more lumpy. Perhaps it will be a bit more selective with regards of the type of sprint and who gets those all important bonus seconds.

Yeah, should be more interesting, lots of short but steep little climbs, especially on the finish circuit. Ineos will have to be on top of their game to control it. Cort will definitely be looking to take a flyer near the end

  • So Denmark have come up with a novel way to spice up their parcour.

    Quite a decent stage.

Anyone know who the rider was that Dowsett referred to a couple of days ago, WT rider literally pushing a Conti rider out of the way?

Bernal took a tumble yesterday apparently, only minor damage by the looks of it as he has been on the front chasing the break but has his knee bandages up.

    Nasty little climb this one.

Tough finish circuit, dead turn where they go up one side of a dual carriageway and back on the other then a short distance to the finish climb that has a 25% section.
  • The break was always on borrowed time. I am also liking this finishing circuit. Why not ride this stage twice, back-to-front, instead of all the flat stages?
This finishing climb looks tough enough to create a small gap or two.
