At the end of the day England have won the group, not lost a game and not conceded.

It was a game of two halves, much more open in the first, then closed out the second, you could say good game management, but for the number of times they lost it at the back.

    3 games, 2 goals, 3 borefests.

    No Sancho but Saka 🙄🙄🙄

Sancho not impressing during training obviously

Looked great for his club but never for England - after tonight Sancho must be behind just about every other option in that position in the squad. Huge talent though.

To be fair, we, A Country The Size Of Wales, beat the Czechs just a couple of months back!

and that was your first team playing flat out as best as they could to the best of their abilities.

we put out 11 blokes who treated the game as a training. One of them was wearing borrowed trainers because he had forgotten his boots and two others were hungover from the night before.

Feeling a bit better about England the morning after.

I think now I have a better sense for how they're set up and not how the pundits want them to be set up.

Functional, conservative team who are trying to be difficult to break down - after all - that's the most common route for teams to win the Euros, especially if they're not the best. Not sure they are quite as mean as their clean-sheet tournament suggests, but that is clearly the thinking.

Part of me is happy Southgate is playing the odds and is focusing on not conceding and is relying on the good players upfront to work it out.

Alas I think they're running into a tough game next so this may all come to nothing.

It's f*cking dull though. Holland they are not.

    nah.

they think they are a free flowing, exciting, attacking pacey team with world class talent.

    KANE!!!!
    SANCHO!!!!
THOSE BLOKES FROM CHELSEA WHO ARE ISOLATING!!!!!

When in reality they are just a bit dull, slow and not very good.

2x 1-0 isn't really overpowering, outplaying and crushing other nations is it?

For example - Kane. According to English media, the best striker in universe.

The reality: 1 shot on goal, that didn't go in, in 2 games.

Saka looked proper good. Actually tried to run past people and create chances, which is novel.

Surprised he started with both grealish and saka, two creative players is surely one too many for England.

To be fair, Matt, 1-0 conservative wins served Italy very well for decades.

I did say that he is a good player...

Haha you are an Arsenal ticket holder so I sort of discounted your opinion on him ;-)

He seems very happy to track back as well as forward so presumably that is the appeal for Southgate.

I said he was versatile. He played at left back for a while.

Yes yes BB I am happy to say you were proved right.

My view on Sancho comes from friends in Germany who wants the league there and they think he's one of the stars of the league and it's mad he's not in the starting line up.

But he's not remotely defensively minded and that plainly is not what Southgate has in mind, not least if he wants to play Grealish who's interest in defending is proportional to the size of his shinpads.

You might well find that Sancho is enough of a tvvat to get dropped from the team but good enough to stay in the squad

I know you say it in jest but the opinion of those who attend games is worth tenfold those who don’t. The camera follows the ball so the armchair viewer has no idea of movement off the ball and the guy in the stadium does not end up parroting the views of pundits

possibly but Southgate felt out quite hard with Grealish in the under 21s so I don't think that matters all that much.

For sure - to be clear I don't watch club football so my opinion is very very limited.

I do notice that fan of x team always (over)rates players from x team in the squad.

I do think it's remarkable how static england are when the ball is at the back. They all just stand there, waiting for someone else to do something to get the ball to them in space.

but if I wanted to know how good is Henderson I would rather ask a Liverpool season ticket holder.

Here is something to look for as told to me by a Spurs season ticket holder "Walker needs to be quick becuase his positional play is awful"

He probably needs a Kompany or Maguire to talk him through the game

In this thread, I have commented that Kane is a good striker with some of the best premier league stats and that Saka is a good versatile player. Those two views aren't consistent with your statement above about bias fans as they play for rival clubs.

I think it depends on the position. I think defensive mid is the hardest position to see on TV.

Another TV irritation I have is when the camera doesn't follow the ball. I have no interest in seeing any off pitch action when the ball is in play.
