A draw makes sense for England and Czechia right?

They haven't thought this group stuff through.

They should make it so that only 2nd and the 3rd places play each other in the next round and group winners skip to the round after that.

if they planned these tournaments around excitement there would only be 8 teams there. As it is we have to wait until the quarter finals for interesting games.

In reality the only excitement for a neutral will be when Belgium, Italy and France play one another

For the tournament draw though English fans should want England to draw, are we agreed on this?

Conveniently this means Czechia get to win their group, so win win.

I think some of it comes down to having 6 groups and trying to get to 16 qualifiers for the next round.

If Sweden beat Poland, and Spain beat Slovakia, then...

If England come second in the group, they get to play Spain then France on the way to a semi final against Italy.

If they come top of the group, they may get Germany then Sweden then someone (Portugal, Wales, Denmark, Netherlands) in the semi

Neither look particularly easy, but topping the group looks better.

How would it make more money for the best teams not to play as many matches?
What about if the winners all played each, but the result only affected who got to sit in front of some coke bottles?

Option 2 looks incredibly easy compared to Option 1

Yes, avoiding France, Spain and Italy until the final seems like a good idea.

They should go for the win.

the only reason to avoid Spain would be out of concern for the mental health of anybody watching it

Feels a bit strange that the two players he had most contact with were on the opposition team.

If it had been after their first game I could understand no Scottish players being considered to have come into contact with each other though as they looked like they had never met before.

How did he get to the ground?

I'm also maybe making assumptions about him sharing a half time changing room with some from the Scotland squad. Or being talked to by the manager.

I think the point is that England really don't want any risk of it spreading in their camp. Scotland, it could probably be the whole squad who have been exposed, so no point trying to isolate anyone in particular.

I guess it's in keeping with the thread to point out only Italy have a better record than Holland so far. Though arguably equally weak opposition.

Why does nobody consider the Croats who could win the game against the plague ridden Scots and then have to forfeit their next game

They shouldn't let the Scots get anywhere near them.

This feels a bit weird, going through already. I had a night off from the Euros, just looked at the scores before I fell asleep, and then woke to read we have qualified without playing. Has this happened before?

Of course it has, if other results fall in a certain way.

It also happens in league football with with promotion and relegation.

I know that, I meant very specifically...England progressing from the group stage without them or anyone else in their group playing.
Wouldn’t have happened in the past but with the best 3rd place teams going though it can now happen.

    Maybe you're right.

You want to avoid situations where draws are the best outcome for both sides.
Having watched Germany and Austria play a "gentleman's agreement" for 90 minutes in a World Cup match (80s I think) it is safe to say that such things do happen.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Surely the best result for England tonight would be a confidence boosting win, regardless of the permutations.

Take your point but what's the alternative - one positive test and you bring in a fresh 26 players and coach?

Playing doesn't count as close contact so even if one of the Scots subsequently tests positive it won't affect Croatia unless one of them catches it off him.

If there was nothing riding on it you would want to know who he sat next to on the coach to and fro and who sat next to him in the dressing room, do they share rooms?

If Scotland had 10 days to their next game imagine the measures they would take.

I am very surprised this was not covered in pre-tournament rules
