If you can do that without "endangering the safety of an opponent" then fine, but it was quite obvious to me.elbowloh said:
So that's a no then.rick_chasey said:

This just comes down to the level of danger, I think. It was a foul. It was intentional. But it wasn't a leg-breaker or anything like that.
Football only has three levels of offence - foul, yellow card, red card. Is treading on someone's toe really in the highest category of bad tackle?0 -
What can I say, I thought it was a red when I saw it. Maybe I am conditioned because I only watch international football.0

The rule book is simply a list of rules.
There will also be volumes of content regarding application and interpretation of the rules with case studies examples etc.
Also, the same actions that have different outcomes can have different results.
Combine the fact that none of us have been exposed to these other resources and the human factor of making split second decisions and of course there appears to be some inconsistency. Some of it will be correct, some of it won’t.0 -
Looking at that photo, the ball has only travelled about 1m. Someone up thread described it as almost an off the ball incident. How long does it take for a ball to travel that far and how easy is it to stop yourself once you see the ball get passed? In real-time I felt it looked far less bad than the still capture makes it appear.kingstongraham said:SERIOUS FOUL PLAY
A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.0 -
That was me and an exaggeration. One reason someone might stand on someone else's foot is if they are trying to control it and put their body between them and the opposing player. He had no chance of doing that, so the best that can be said is he was trying to tackle the other guy, but that is an odd way to go about it and he was incredibly late. All of which makes me think he was just trying to stand on the other guy's foot.Pross said:

Its a bad one, tbh. He will have known a bit sooner than that who was going to get to the ball first. His foot isn't in a "kicking the ball" position. He's not made any attempt to plant his foot anywhere else.
But its below the ankle. Its intended to hurt, but it isn't an "ankle snapper" as above, that's ridiculous.
If that's a red, so be it. But in that case, England-Scotland should have ended about 8 men each.
Back to consistency.0 -
A discussion I have with a friend of mine is how many international teams would beat a decent championship one. My feeling is very few, especially in the early stages of a tournament. He thinks that I haven't suffered the misery of watching championship football enough.rick_chasey said:

If I was in charge of England, I would make them play a championship team as part of the warm up. No doubt it is not allowed by the governing bodies though.0

.The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

Is that really all that different to playing the various minnows en route to qualification?TheBigBean said:If I was in charge of England, I would make them play a championship team as part of the warm up. No doubt it is not allowed by the governing bodies though.
I feel you're showing your Arsenal fandom here, who have a reputation for being overly soft ;-)0 -
This phrase needs updating because Stoke themselves can no longer do it on wet Tuesday night in Stoke.rick_chasey said:

It's good in one way, not often on a forum do we get two full pages about Welsh football... even if it just about the rights and wrongs of a tackle!!0
-
They finished 2nd in the group. quite something, though Turkey have been awful, biggest disappointment of the tournament.0
-
It felt like an important game, even though it was really trying to decide whether Wales would definitely go through or pretty much definitely go through.0
-
You are misunderstanding. The championship team would be a well drilled team who play as a team and would therefore provide decent opposition. An international minnow is just a worse version of England. This isn't about rough tackles just about playing as a team.rick_chasey said:

How has Gilmour not had any close contacts in the Scotland squad?0

England deny any close contact but you would hope they have placed his Chelsea team mates into isolationkingstongraham said:How has Gilmour not had any close contacts in the Scotland squad? Doesn't that make the whole concept of close contacts a bit risible?

Meh Holland are happy to throw everyone forward the second they win possession. Plenty of room for MKD (anyone know why it’s those 3 letters?!) to playkingstongraham said:MUCH more threatening.

How are Wales getting a second place team in the next round? Is it because Italy are one of the best group winners (3 wins from 3) and get one of the third place teams? Feels quite a good draw whoever they get.0
-
Apparently not, as both players are now self isolating.First.Aspect said:
