a very spozzy 1-0 and nil - nil.

not exactly taking johnny foreigner apart are they?

    good, not great.

The players man for man are better than Italy has - the team clearly are not better than Italy.

i've had to quote this for posterity.

Why would a non English manager of a Chelsea, Man City, Tottenham or Liverpool play English players when they have the money to buy the best Italians if they wanted to?

And if they played English players who weren't up to the standard of the very best how would they reach the Champions League final with that handicap ?

I mean even AC Milan play an English defender - not one of the best though he didn't make the England squad.

Kane has scored 166 premier league goals (7th highest) with the equal highest goals to games ratio. He has done this while playing for Spurs.

because the italians don't want to play in England as they are happy earning the same money playing in a blimmin' good league living in a far, far nicer country?

There is something so fun about tournament football.

No two legs, no 40 games to even out the luck, no months to sort stuff out.

    Love it

I do think the wingbacks are key to England.

Ultimately though I think Southgate’s main preoccupation is not to concede and rely on set pieces.

Germany by contrast getting lots of love on the right with wingback overlaps. Italy too albeit inverted. Easier to do against Portugal who don’t have Mbape as a threat

French goal was a very well executed route 1.

Again German goal - wingback overlap (Kimmich) overloads the opposition left back and gives the wingback enough time to cross.

This is the kind of stuff England can do especially against teams like Scotland Czechoslovakia
