Why on earth would Scotland play for a draw?

    Wot SC said.

Two of Scotland's best chances have come when Mount didn't track back with a runner

Oh man, is it raining up North. Been Beautiful in Cornwall all day... 😎

Not the classic I was expecting thus far.

Sunny here. Unfortunately I'm listening to STV commentary. It's not neutral.

    We're gonna win it.

    29 unbeaten
    81 goals for
    7 against

stats like that would have the engerlish jeffing themselves.

to us - meh. we won Eurovision.

Their training methods are very good.

Can anyone give me a quickie on why Grealish (?) coming on/not coming on is being talked about so much..?

The best player on the pitch has just been subbed. Does Southgate know what he's doing?

No, Foden was the only player looking remotely dangerous.

Well that was a load of utter sh!te.
No pace, no urgency, no desire to create chances.
Neither side is getting beyond the last 16 unless they improve drastically.

Scotland seem to have burned themselves out a bit. They will have 15 or 20 more minutes of scurrying then England will set up camp in their half and Grealish will come on, achieve nothing and it will end 0-0.

Scotland's energy lasted longer than predicted but well played that man!

Well done Scotland, were the better team and put more effort in.

England were terrible, slow, slow, extra touch, pass back.

I think Reece James passed forward once in the entire game and that was in the 88 minute.

No one running past the man with the ball. No one ever trying anything but the safest pass.

Kane was dreadful, he's clearly not match fit. Sterling was dreadful too.

Reality hits home again. England to Scrape past the group stage and go out last 16/quarters. Who cares with that performance.

I was left wondering if the ITV commentators were watching the same game.

A detachment from reality of such epic proportions they should gravitate towards a political career.

Foden was magic tonight. He's an absolute star. The problem is that there's no point playing with a number 9 if you are literally never going to try to find him with the ball. Nor Kane's fault, but waste of time him being there if the tactic is just to never cross. Doesn't make a difference if he's replaced by rashford either.

I think I have more pace than Harry Kane.

Good job we have such a fantastic crop of attacking talent, or we'd struggle to score.

He’s so slow he has to look for a foul when he finds himself in a bit of space ‘running’ towards goal to save embarrassment.

I'd expect its because in those teams, the second best right back is considered better down the left than the best left back is.

Fwiw, I think that's very rarely actually true.

Anyone who follows club football for a few years will come across situations where the choice is whether to play an experienced player out of position or bring in some kid from the reserves. I understand this balancing act, but was surprised anyone would think of it as a good tactical move and write an article about it rather than an act of desperation which is more likely to be the case.
You should probably read it before you comment.

You’ve already got the wrong end of the stick twice.

And with both Shaw and Chiswell in the squad putting Trippier there isn’t desperation clearly.
Not read it but assuming it agrees that teams pick a right footed RB at LB because they are better players (limited pool of left footers) but then discusses how it's not entirely negative - there are plusses as well as minuses - it's different rather than worse.

I'm gonna disagree Pross - given the mismatch in the squads that's a moral victory even if it's only 1 point.
