So who here thinks Pidcock could develop into an actual GT contender? I think his upside is more Alaphilippe (puncheur) than Pogacar.

I think he could if he focuses on it - it must be difficult to choose one style of race over others but I do think it'd be best if he did. If I were him I think I'd try and be a classics rider for 3-4 years see how that went - that'd also fit with riding some 'cross.

It's definitely an option that could be open to him, but we've seen what climbing and tt efforts look like now, he'd have to give it sole focus, which would be a shame. He should spend a couple of seasons on classics, mtb and cross and see where that leads him. At the moment I wouldn't even press him to choose between cobbles and Ardennes. Could always do some wind tunnel work on the side which wouldn't be wasted anyway.

Not sure why we're discussing this on the transfers thread though, I don't think he's going anywhere soon

I'd suggest the 3rd week performance, not that it was bad, doesn't scream GT rider.

Lad is sensational in one dayers, stick to what you're best at.

Light, punchy, fast sprint, can read a tactical situation, lad's made for hilly classics.

Do think we're spoiled for hilly classics riders at the moment. No shade on Gerrans, he's a great rider, but a Gerrans they ain't.

Vingegaard was 14th in Lombardia last year. I wonder if he'll continue his progression and add his name to the likes of Pog, Rog, JA, Yates, Bardet, Gaudu, Woods et al who are usually there or thereabouts. Might Remco also give it a bash this year?

It was a double hook cast, but FF is unfortunately extinct in these waters 😉

Rui Costa, now there's a name that I haven't heard in a while.

    Whatever happened to him?!

That's harsh. Has a palmares Simon Spilak could only dream of.

Like a billionaire's money, they thrive in Switzerland

Rui Costa (the cyclist not the footballer) has been Portugal's Sportsman of the Year three times. Cristiano Ronaldo never has.

Crazy. Their palmares is pretty shite this year. Won f*ck all.

Stage 2 Volta ao Algarve, David Gaudu
Stage 5 Tour of the Alps, Thibaut Pinot
    Stages 5 & 6 Giro d'Italia, Arnaud Démare

    That's your lot.

Yeah but they pack the top ten in smaller French races and there's plenty of points on offer there.

To give them their due, they made the podium of Roubaix, RVV and E3 and were 4th in the Tour

Where are you getting your stats from? Because I can think of at least three wins you're missing without even checking - Demare won 3 stages at the Giro, Gaudu mugged Van Aert at the Dauphine and Pinot won the final road stage of the Tour de Suisse.

Their u23 team has been phenomenal this season, ten of their riders have won races, including the u23 Liege-Bastogne-Liege, u23 Gent-Wevelgem, the Giro Valle d'Aosta and the Tour of Alsace last weekend.

    Wiki - apologies.

Still though, that's not a great palmares.

Looking on PCS they've farmed top 10s all season and just gone for accumulation.

Gaudu's Tour 4th was worth more than all Demare's Giro points, but that's another debate and we're getting off topic.
