Tennis G.O.A.T?

I think for all her talk of her tennis IQ, this showed her lack of nous. Not just from the PR perspective of ditching Andy Murray, but also just a bad career decision. She had just started to build a bit of momentum back in her career at Wimbledon, playing with Andy and getting a win or two extra and a bit of home support could have built further on that.
Instead she pissed people off, lost her next match and seemed to be back at square one again after Wimbledon. She seems to be the tennis equivalent of book smart but not street smart. The US win was amazing but she has shown no real understanding of how to build a career on tour after that, and doesn't seem willing to listen to people that can help.

I was thinking about this and wondering does she actually have more injuries than any other player? Professional sportspeople are pretty much always playing with some kind of minor injury / niggle or whatever you want to call it and I think a lot then comes down to whether they have the mental toughness to fight through the pain or not. In that first Wimbledon she was playing superbly but then the pressure seemed to get to her and manifest itself in a stomach injury (if my memory serves me correctly). I'm not suggesting she does have injuries but morewhether they are any more than others players get through. Other things are quite inexplicable like getting serious blisters on her racquet hand when you would think her hands would be calloused by this stage in her career.

The Emma-Andy saga from his final Wimbledon is such a messed up scenario.
If Andy wasn't falling apart at the seams, everyone would have chomping at the bit to play doubles with him, but the top players would be worried Andy would pull out through injury before or during a match.
If Emma didn't have a developing reputation for injuries before/during matches, she might have been picked to double up with by better players.
In the end, the two of them both got the type of partner they deserved, one who might pull out before or during a match... The fact Emma pulled out before, rather than Andy, is neither here nor there!

Yeah, very difficult to answer. A lot of players are managing injuries/niggles and are still competitive. Depends on the type of injury I guess. Raducanu has had 3 surgeries so understandably missed months of tennis and she has hypermobility which might cause some of the niggles.

Based on football, I can't think of many players who started their careers made of glass and then became robust. Therefore, I expect she will always struggle before retiring early.

The better players don’t play doubles. Raducanu wouldn’t play doubles either other than for competitive practice without serious ambitions of winning.
If Sir Andy Murray invites you to play doubles with him at his last Wimbledon, you sew your bloody leg back on or whatever and get your butt onto that court so he can milk the crowd one last time.

Yep, Dan Evans gave up defending his ATP title to play doubles with him in Paris. Cost him a fair whack of points and a rankings drop, but he understood the significance of the occasion.

Jeez, I never realised her leg needed sewing back on, it explains the poor form though.

I thought Murray had a raft of fitness issues at the start of his career didn't he, when he was in his teens, and possibly a bit beyond - doesn't sound 'that' different to Draper's situation maybe.
I think he dedicated a LOT of time to working on his physical fitness, and boosting his strength, and that was what saw him transform into the player he latterly became.
He couldn't have picked a worse time period to be playing top tier tennis in though eh, still an incredible achievement to pick up one grand slam, let alone 3 - and one olympic gold?
Re Djokers - most people here will know I'm not a fan, but having gotten past Alcaraz (Who isn't as consistent as I, and I suspect he, had hoped) I thought he was a strong favourite - though having said that I have not properly seen sinner play in any detail like I have a raft of other players, especially with no Disco sub until March.
Apart from Sinner though, there's not a new swathe of TOP players in the mens game, if Djok can get over this current injury, and he seems to have managed it everytime in the past (Though I appreciate age is against him) I wouldn't bet against him grabbing one or two more, but I think they will have to be this year or next, so 7 more chances I guess.

That's not even a coach every two years though.

I mean blimey, I've only had two couches and I've been watching Wimbledon for a good twenty years!
That's like ten years per couch.

I'm talking about the better doubles players turning Andy down.
I wouldn't be surprised if Andy asked a number of players to join him before asking Emma, but got declined, including the likes of the Williams sisters.
Andy was a serious doubt to start the doubles after his singles defeat iirc, as a fellow grand slam winner but considerably younger, I don't blame Emma for pulling out when she had some sort of injury.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, he had an amazing few years in the early to mid 2010s, but Andy should have called his career a day several years before '24.

Big win for Draper last night. Let's hope he can finish it off in the final.
He does seem to be the real deal providing he can stay fit.

I just posted the same on CC 😂
Big win in what some refer to as the fifth slam. Moves into the world top ten. 3 set format might suit him physically but does look the real deal 👍

Beat 3 top guys on the way. His all around game looks better than most of the current top 10. If he stays fit and consistent and can manage his fitness over 5 setters, he is a GS winner for me.

Bossing it at the moment
