Not a grand slam though so no biggie. Free to enter after April so will be at the big one.

You'd have to say it's going to be Novac.

We have our favourites and Novak is a bit of a prat but he’s also the GOAT.

    FTFY.

I've said it before here, I could care less about Nadal, Fed, Djok or any others. Rod Laver is still the GOAT; twice - repeat TWICE - winner of the calendar Grand Slam. If/when anyone else achieves that... I'll reconsider. Carry on.

The stats will currently say he is the goat in a purely numbers based approach.

Personally a 'greatest of all time' would be someone whose style of play, attitude and demeanour strike a cord with me, AND they happen to be very successful.

I realise that is a very personal goat, and not in the stats etc, but for me Djok will never be my tennis goat :D

I appreciate no one in the world will care about that either o:)

Not all slams are equal in worth really as you need to take the opposition into account.

He came into two other contenders at the back end of their extremely lengthy careers (which mitigates his head-to-head record with them) and since then he’s had poor competition.

Djokovic won his first slams a couple of years before Federer peaked. Who would you say is the GOAT?

Probably Federer if we’re talking men’s. And not because I’m biased towards grass either.

😂😂😂 Tennis obviously not your forte. He turned pro in 2003! Only two years after Nadal, who’s only a year older. Went toe toe with the big dogs for years. The “back end” of Federer and Nadal were still winning slams so I’d hardly say they were reduced.

    Prime Federer was 2004 to 2009. Prime Djokovic was 2011 - 2016.

8 of Djokovic’s slams came post 2019 where competition was markedly weaker than before.

I also reckon Federer’s “peak” was higher.

So what you’re saying is that Federer only won so many grand slams because Djokovic hadn’t reached prime form and Nadal’s all court game hadn’t matured yet. And once that happened, his opportunities for slams were greatly reduced? Harsh.

And by your own admission. Federer won his first 16 grand slams with markedly weaker competition than after.

As pointed out above it could be argued that Federer got his early wins against weak opposition. This argument can be used about anyone at any sport.

I do remember Federer being more dominant than the others in his ‘peak’ less competition years and his record for most ATP titles backs this up.

Was close between Nadal and Djokovic but with easily the most weeks ranked No1 and most slams…. There can be only one.

  • I know his record doesn’t stack up in terms of Grand Slams, but Borg is the man in my view. I’m biased as he won Wimbledon for the first 5 years I was aware of its existence.

We were spoilt with the Borg-McEnroe rivalry.

Or maybe I’m a crusty old git falling into the trap of thinking it was all so much better “back in the day”!

I’m just glad I’ve seen from Connors through to today, and hopefully a lot more.

Indeed. Same on the ladies' side having seen Evert, Martina, Steffi, Seles, Hingis and Serena all at their best.

What's the point in being statistically best if most people still think you're a kn0b?
