In a way, his background makes his progress just as impressive as he hasn't squandered the opportunities he has been given and clearly puts the work in. Not something that you always observe in people with massive privilege in any walk of life.

Good effort from Draper in his first semi. Tight couple of sets but not being a naturally fluid ball striker as Sinner, was having to expend more energy to stay in the rallies with some wild unforced errors in the hope of ending the points quickly. Draper’s first serve really needed to be flawless to lessen the physical toll.
Another couple of injury free years with more experience going deep at the Majors and could be a serious contender.

Agree he was looking to end points early and assume that was due to the humidity and sickness. That is my only slight worry, he clearly struggles in heat and I am not sure there is much he can do to remedy that as it's not really a fitness issue.
I still think he is a future GS winner though.

Fritz the first American male grand slam finalist in 15 years. Weird when you think how dominant they are in stuff like golf and athletics.

Been in decline since Sampras& Agassi retired. Top college athletes pushed more towards football or basketball? Still doesn’t really explain it, weird one.

I think youngsters gravitating to other potentially more lucrative sports is definitely part of it. I read a while back that the view was the USTA got a bit complacent post Agassi/Sampras era and other nations just caught up and then overtook them. I think they got Patrick Mcenroe in a few years back to overhaul things.

Got that the wrong way around, they got rid of Mcenroe and got someone new in to help with player development!

14 French Opens, crazy.
Wimbledon line judges being replaced by AI then. We're doomed, DOOMED I tell thee!

I saw the line judges article earlier today, thought it was satire to start with.

Have you met Wimbledon line judges? Load of pompous prat’s, good riddance.

And then there was 1. I’ll miss Nadal, great champion, great sport. Amazed his career lasted as long as it did considering the pounding his body took but I still wouldn’t have been surprised if by sheer force of will he’d have won another French open. Hope he goes out with a bang in the Davis cup.

Murray to coach Djokovic! 😃 Didn’t see that one coming. Murray not the type to sit indoors twiddling his thumbs and I guess a round of golf doesn’t quite get the competitive juices flowing like it should. Can’t wait to see Andy shouting at Novak from the coaches box.

Neale Fraser died recently at 91. Quite as career winning singles, doubles and mixed at the same tournament 2 years running. Won't be seeing that again I'm sure. Beat Laver twice in singles finals. Quite a player.
