Meanwhile after doing a spell of domestic work, Cav has taken the last hour of the race off.
Bruges tomorrow is much more his cup of tea

Remco Evenepoel returns to racing today and joins Cav, at the Elfstedenronde. ( the Bruges -Bruges )

The race has sections of pave, but is mainly pan flat laps of the city, so a sort of much prettier Scheldeprijs?

Anyhow, it's the third live race of the day on GCN/Eurosport player.

Merlier wins but Cav was finishing really fast having lost Morkov’s wheel

Ackerman sprinting diagonal meant Cav had to go a long way around otherwise he would have won

Decent result there for Cav really. Ahead of Ackermann etc.

It wasn't so much the result, but they way he got second against a top flight sprint field.
    Jose Been was certainly impressed.

If you're interested, it's name is based on the the ice-skating elfstedentocht route which is an obsession of the Netherlands; a c.200km ice-skating race through eleven towns/villages, (hence the name) which can only happen if the freeze is long and deep enough to freeze the canals safely. It's happened only 15 times since 1909, with the last one in 1997.

Every winter when a big freeze happens there is "elfstedentochtkorts" i.e. elfstendentocht fever when the nation becomes obsessed about whether it will happen.

This year was particularly tough as the weather was good enough to run it but corona meant it had to be called off.

    What's this advert for?

It looks like a furniture store just over the border in Germany. Sorry to disappoint.

Oh Okay. Every year in Sweden they have the epic cross country ski event called the Vasa race but at least they have the weather for it.

This race is live in about 10 minutes and there should be a French feed (L'Equipe) available from Tiz, by following the Belgium tour live link. Whole race coverage, too.

Twice up Ventoux is vicious. Good thing the first climb of the day on the Col de la Madeleine has been shrunk (and moved from the Alps)

Half way up Ventoux for the first time, using the alternative route as far as Chalet Reynard...
Tiz link to L'Equipe works fine with my Fire Stick, so I have it on the tv.

According to the profile and map they do the full summit both times, with just the bottom part differing (24k at 5% Inc a long false flat section V 20k at 7.5%)

Ah so, they arrive at Chalet Reynard to take on the normal summit finish and what do we find?

Break with 3 minutes - Cort, Pacher, Hardy, Fernandez, Adria, Maurelet (in order of whether I've heard of them).

Pacher attacks them and Adria goes with him with 3km to go of the first time up Ventoux.

Few names on the start list, but Lopez supported by Mas stands out really.

Pacher looks really good - put another minute into the peloton, and now it really is 3km to the top. Blown away the rest of the breakaway except Roger Adria who must be surprising himself here.

    Pacher first over the summit.
Magnus Cort should get back to the leading two on the descent

    It's a good watch, this.

As well as being a preview of stage 11 of this month's TDF, minus the final descent.
At least two of us are enjoying it!

So it looks like Movistar, EF and AG2R are taking the lead in making sure the break has no chance by the time it gets to the final climb. For Lopez, Carr and O'Connor?

    Pacher already going it alone.
2 minutes lead is nothing on the Ventoux.

Splits in the peloton, EF and AG2CITROENR gunning it on the lower slopes.
