Hayter somehow holds onto the lead. Would probably have won the stage quite comfortably without the crash.

That’s going to burn something fierce.
Mucho skin left on the Portuguese tarmac.

    Chapeau to Hayter but...

Asgreen means a viking thread update will be needed.

Hope he sleeps on his right-hand side. Still can't work out what happened, he didn't slide out his back wheel lifted slightly so maybe panicked a bit and grabbed the front brake.

Huge time gaps in there, Hayter was 9th but over a minute behind Asgreen.

Asgreen only 21" behind on gc. Think Hayter will have a tough day tomorrow, it's a lumpy stage

There was a bit of a crash in the final few kms due to one of those dangerous new fangled roundabouts with several riders looking the worse for wear and unlikely to finish but nothing particularly serious looking.

Our HH is about half a mile from that new fangled roundabout. Useless information I know.

Some bloke from serial cheats FC Porto W52 finished second on the final stage of Algarve, beating Hayter by 18 seconds to win the overall (for now).

My bad. Brought over from Giro land.

    W52 kicking Hayter’s bum.

Gesbert takes the stage, Rodriguez the GC.

That some bloke has won a Volta and twice finished second. He's still only 26, weighs 60kg and is a kosher climber.

I have more faith in him than say, Gustavo César Veloso, who was runner up in the Volta last year, aged 40 and is 10kgs heavier, or suspended Raúl Alarcón, who used to put out more watts/kg at the Volta, than Froome at the Tour.

Anyway, across the Atlantic the Prologue of the Tour of Colombia was won by Oscar Sevilla. He's 44. When he won his first pro race Mrs Pidcock was seven months pregnant.

Oscar Sevilla finished 8th in the Tour Du Rwanda (the last stage was today), 1-25 behind winner, a (Martin) Christian Rodriguez (a name unknown to me).

Sevilla was behind Restrepo, Pacher, Vuillermoz, but ahead of Rolland, Geniez, Gautier (names I recognise). Rolland at least won the 'Queen Stage'.

Also, Hayter would almost certainly have won comfortably without his crash. He would have led by probably a minute going into the final stage and may have been more able to defend today without the injuries.

Looks like Bouhanni has been disqualified as the initial results had him as third then on the last list he wasn’t showing. He needs banning for this sprint.

Been given a 2 month respective ban that ends in early June. As he seems not have been racing so not much of a ban.
In other news the circuit of Wallonie is on tomorrow.

No fewer than 4 live races on GCN/Eurosport player tomorrow.

They also have the Navarra Classic women's race.

Oh and 3 hours live coverage of the mighty and wonderful Tro Bro Leon on Sunday.

He was suspended pending the investigation I think.

Seems the UCI realised DG suspension was harsh and based on the outcome rather than the action.

Looking forward to this. Been a favourite of mine for many years.
Best yet, we have the strongest startlist I can recall and extended live coverage (3 hours) on GCN/Euro player.

Half a dozen world teams turning up this year.
Besides Phil Gilbert, there's Barguil, Laporte (past winner) Ollie Naesen, Degenkolb, Sarreau, Vermeesch, Drucker, Ben Thomas etc.

Wife had decided that today would be a good day to go and have a walk in some local gardens as the rhododendrons are in flower.

Have you not told her about how we now have gender equality in sports, which means she has to watch the bike racing, instead of the pretty flowers?

Managed to rewind and watch the last 2 hours as live. I've only ever managed to see highlights previously as, I think, it is usually midweek.

It really is a cracking race and feels like watching what I assume racing to have been like pre-war albeit on modern equipment. Scenery is varied and spectacular and this was a good edition with an exciting finish. Not quite sure what Swift was thinking but doubt he'll do that again and I suspect had the photo finish been with Le Gac the verdict may not have gone in his favour. He was clearly the strongest rider but there was some very tenacious riding there with all the others having bad patches then recovering. Excellent ride by Planckaert, is he related to Eddy?

No. But to add confusion, he has a brother called Edward who rides for Alpecin
