I would like them to take Bernal. I know he's not shown the form but 15 months on from getting back on a bike maybe a 3 week Tour is what his body needs to get back to that level. I don't expect much from him but maybe the race provides the training stimulus he needs.

If he can't then he can't but how long do you give him ? I don't expect much from him - play it by ear and decide on his targets depending on how he is going.

The thing with Turner and Sheffield is that they’re both still young and relatively inexperienced. I’m convinced Ineos are lacking more mature riders. Suspect De Plus may be there, Fraille too?

Not convinced Carlos is 100% committed, I get the feeling he’s more interested in the oft rumoured move to Movistar.

I think the biggest issue is there are two riders who are streets ahead of the others in terms of ability riding the Tour and neither are Ineos riders whereas a few years ago the two best GT riders were quite often both at Ineos / Sky. Incidentally I would suggest that even 2019 Bernal wouldn't have been competing with Pog and Jonas but would have been a firm favourite to complete the podium. Prime Froome against them would have been very interesting though.

It's crazy how things have turned out, five years ago Froome won the Giro with that Finestre stage attack and he came third in TDF, with Bernal winning the shortened 2019 TDF. Back then I'd expect them both to be still giving Pog and Rog a run for their money today, but awful injuries have taken chunks of ability away prematurely from the Ineos pair.

There are so many good top 10 GC riders going to the tour ...I just can't see a ineos guarantee of a 5th place never mind podium

It's not up to Ineos standards, but I wouldn't bet against Carlos Rodriguez getting a Top 5 finish in the Tour (no, I can't see him on the podium either).

I'll take that bet. I think it's far more likely based on past performance that he will crash heavily and limp into a top 10 in 9th position.

Josh Tarling has become the youngest ever senior GB TT champion this evening.

How about taking im to the tdf, if you're not going to compete for GC. Why not give some youngsters a cance to get some experience.

Received wisdom, and presumably this is backed up by evidence, is that you don't take first year professionals, especially ones who have only just left the junior ranks, to the Tour. I think it's recognised that the work load is too much, too soon.

I hope they do take some of their younger riders to the Tour, but I very much doubt Tarling will be one of them.

And both on TT bikes - and arguably being TT bikes was relevant to both of these near fatal accidents.

How long have Ineos committed to sponsorship?

Complicated one, they own the team. If they were pulling out they’d have to close the team or sell.

With the amount of riders rumoured to be leaving I was wondering if they'd been told Ineos are going to pull the plug or whether there's going to be a big drop in funding. I could understand them clearing the decks if there was someone they could bring in to lead a realistic GT bid but if all these riders rumoured to be leaving actually do so they are really going to be struggling.

It is a bit of a mystery, unless the rumours are all wide of the mark I suppose.

How long is Remco at QS?

He has a contract for another three seasons after this one, I believe. Whether there is any kind of break clause is unknown.

QS have a lot of riders out of contract at the end of the year, so one assumes he'll get a better level of support rider than he's had up to now if he stays.

This crossed my mind too. Either that or they will try and get Remco.

Wonder if they’d take a punt on Skjelmose. He’s out of contract end of ‘24, might be worth offering them some cash now.

He doesn't feel much of a different punt than Arensman, Rodriguez, Leo Hayter etc. though.

Rodriguez is going to Movistar isn't he? It's meant to have been a done deal since last year.

I do wonder if the Manchester United bid is leaving everything a little up in the air at the moment

In terms of Quickstep plans, Mørkøv is out of contract the end of this season and shopping around (Uno-X a possibility). That should tell you where their focus is now.

It’s all very interesting. Sky/Ineos never used to get it wrong when they let a rider go to another team.

Van Baarle to Jumbo was the probably the first that raised eyebrows.

They used to let people go because people wanted to ride for them. It isn't their choice anymore. They aren't "letting them go".
