So Jumbo and Ineos have just snubbed the race? It's a World Tour race so they're supposed to send a team, right? Will they be in bother with the UCI or are there virus related dispensations?

    Dunno.

The women's race is on the player in 5 minutes.....
Working right now but plan on watching after the men's race. Hopefully I can avoid spoilers until then.

Apparently both fined E50k. It would be good if they added that to the women's prize pot, but I suppose it will go to fighting Velon.

Bora have dropped out due to a Covid positive.

So, what on Earth made me click onto ProCyclingStats? Doh!

Happy with the winner obviously and look forward to watching how she did it.

Habit and stupidity on my part. I teach online and have a 5 minute spell between students, sat at the computer looking at cycling stuff.

Nizzolo wins Euro champs in the sprint.

Weird sprint. Everyone waited way too long to take the sprint up

Italians got the tactics right in terms of disrupting other riders as they peeled off.

MvDP's sprint up by the barriers was a bit tight...

No French or Italian National Champs jersey at the Tour this year then. In fact, off the top of my head, I can only think of the Spanish and Danish jerseys that will be on show. There must be more surely?
  • Is Connor Swift still national champ? I genuinely can't remember back to last June

Strictly speaking there was a lot of *not sprinting in a straight line* but no-one cares since no-one crashed.

Fairly certain that Sam Bennett was wearing the national championship colours in last week's Tour de Wallonie

No it’s Ben Swift. One of your 2020 men.

    Most of it by MVDP.

Amazingly strong showing by MvdP. Kept attacking, but was never truly away. Italians able to always chase him down. He may have wanted to counter another move at some point, but would probably not have changed anything. He was coming up fast in the final sprint as well but got pinched by two riders just before the line. Definitely was weaving about before. Really good effort by him.

Italians with the strongest team. Rode to their strength and had numbers in every move. Perfect race by them.

Belgians a little bit AWOL. GVA was there and Stuyven a bit, but more could have been expected of them.

Really nice attack by Pidcock at the very end. Great timing and got a good gap. With a more favourable course (uphill finish), it might have stuck.

Nizzolo deserving winner based of Italy's strong team showing. Trentin did a great job of being there at the end to shut down MvdP.

By all of them - hence the gap that MVDP going for shutting, for example.

Rubbish, take look at it again.
All podium sprinters hardly move until right at the end and your boy gets shut out by Nizzolo.
The barrier on his left isn't straight which means he has to move in to cross the finish line.

Time to stop crying over Groenewegen.

I'm not crying over him, it's more a lot of people made out that riders not sprinting straight was a rarity when it happens most bunch sprints somewhere.

    .

Am I right in thinking this might have been Pidcock first road race since shutdown. I know he’s ridden some mountain bike races.

He doesn't appear to have ridden any road races at all this year prior to that one.

I especially liked the bit when there was the big crash in the boss group and the leaders all sat up and waited for the rest of the group to make it back.
Then as soon as the 6 Dutch girls who had been hanging around the rear returned, they immediately went on the attack, stopping the rest from making it.
Judging from her attacks, I don't think Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig was too impressed when she eventually chased them down.
    Pure class.

Lizzie Deignan: best off on Tuesday, worst off in the crash and having to abandon.

It was a good race but numbers dominated.

After the CX season, he was meant to do the Cape Epic MTB stage race - obviously that was cancelled. SInce then he's done a few MTB events in France, with success, but no road races.

That was a good race unfolding with lots of twists. Annemiek is just something else. She really is #1 rainbow jersey.
