It's a sign of the times that you can still write that sentence.

If they hadn't been white you wouldn't have been able to tell us your findings for fear of the now normal accusations.

I apologise to anyone who might have been offended. To demonstrate my inclusivity, I had a gammon over for dinner last night. Very tasty too, with a melted cheese and hickory smoked sauce topping.

It was the same on the Underground too. Very definitely less compliance by BAME passengers and young worse than old

SC's hopes for the end of the buffet breakfast are well and truly in tatters. Premier Inn is fully back to pre-pandemic operations with fully self-service buffet and free range kids running around to trip you up whilst spreading virus as much as possible.

The Ritz by comparison, despite being the spiritual home of gammons presumably, required you to do the barcode, have your temperature checked and wear a mask whilst not at your table (they also, despite my wife assuring me otherwise, required a tie to be worn for afternoon tea - I had to suffer the shame of being sent to the cloakroom, bloody provincial riff raff!).

Spoons is the spiritual home of the cured pork product no?

Mask wearing in supermarkets is still pretty well observed in my part of the Midlands.

I wonder if a reduction in long term memory is a sign of having Covid? I might have read that somewhere.

It sounds like the over fifties will get a booster Pfizer jab this autumn, which is good to hear.

Yep, my wife and a friend went to the Ritz for afternoon tea a couple of weekends ago and it was very clear they needed to sign in on the app etc. All very politely done, as you’d expect, but non compliance wasn’t on the menu.

I don't get this Ritz afternoon tea thing. £55 or suchlike per head. You wot mate?

I went for a job interview once a long time ago in the Ritz, not for them but an USAnian tech firm setting up European ops in Paris. Got offered but decided eventually to decline, went to another Uk based USAnian subsidiary instead.

Anyways. The Ritz. Had never been there before, was aware of the reputation and that, came away distinctly unimpressed. Felt like a bit of a run down old place. Ok, this was many years ago and it may have had a lick of paint and some new carpets since.

    But, £55!

I thought pneumonia was a one off jab. Was offered something alongside flu a few years back they said was a one time thing, thought it was pneumonia jab but can't be sure.
Compared to the number of holes they put in me for chemo this lot is nothing, so I'll take them and be grateful.

Not my kinda thing either, but my wife and her mate had wanted to do it for ages, so up to them really. Plenty of cycling things I easily spend £55 on which she’d think are a rip off, I’m sure.

I think it is. Had one last Friday, after my (virtual) annual MOT review with GP. She recommended I get this old codgers' (not her actual words) anti pneumonia booster, would be a one off. Think she said kids get it in early years then it's for the oldies. Must stop dyeing my hair silver...

Fair point KG re the Ritz teas 'n' cakes. Though I would expect more longterm payback from £55 spent on cycling kit 😊

It was what my daughter said she wanted to do for her 18th. Much as I like my food I couldn't quite finish it off and £55 was a small price to pay for the smile on the face of our daughter that we thought at one point might not make her 5th birthday let alone her 18th.

I enjoyed it much more than I expected to and the place has obviously had a makeover since you were there, it was very well decorated (and tasteful - I thought it might be a bit like a theme park).

Just looked up the pneumonia jab as my GP hadn't mentioned/ offered it despite getting the flu jab last year on the basis of age. Looks like you have to be over 65 to get the pneumonia jab unless you're immunocompromised. So looks like we're still a fair bit too young. As for 'Loon though...

Did it as soon as they would let me.

They were sending people away who had their first after a certain date - mine was right on the line.

Yeah when I had mine a week ago they were checking everyone was at least 8 weeks. Must have changed at some point.

Yes, pneumonia is either a one off or perhaps every ten years I think.

My "pin cushion" reference I also have to have regular blood samples taken for being a DVT sufferer.

Interesting that the 18-24 age group is on a steep upward slope for vaccine take up that has caught (maybe overtaken) the 24-29 group that seems to have flatlined.

I'm not sure the "incentives" being offered are going to persuade many of the reluctant ones. I think restrictions on what they are allowed to do will be more effective in the end.

I started getting the flu jab about 4 years ago. Last year, I asked about getting the pneumonia one (given what's happening), only to be told I had it along with my flu jab in that first year.

    I wonder if they'll combine flu/covid?

I got a pneumonia jab last year at the same time as flu jab but it was a separate jab. The annual flu jab is usually a bit later in the year than when they want to start the covid booster jab from memory. Don't think I got it until November last year and they are talking of starting the covid booster by September.

It would make logistical sense to do them both at the same time but sense in the current world does appear hard to come by!
