I've been on the priority list so getting a flu jab since having chemo about 15 years back. I think it was 4 or 5 years ago I was offered pneumonia, so before 50 but jumping the queue by virtue of being on the list. Doubt I will get the covid booster any earlier than others if they are doing all over 50s. I kind of expected it to be given with the flu jab, but as above will have to wait and see as I base that on nothing more than it would appear more efficient.0

Yep, does look that way. No idea if it was by luck or good judgment, but either way cases are heading in the right direction

Luck. Definitely. For making decisions he has one of those dice in a popper that used to come with Matel board games.kingstonian said:ugo.santalucia said:Looks like Boris' gamble is paying dividends and Starmer has stopped repeating "reckless" like a parrot, one for the Tories...

Case numbers nothing whatsoever to do with no schools testing and people switching off the world class pinger app. 'Success' is all down to Spaffer's skillz.0

It would be nice if his optimism was well placed for a change, as much as I think he is utterly incapable.0

Euros over too. All that pub mixing contributed to the rises during late June and July.0

Footie starting again soon. Mass gammon gatherings. Is that the right term?morstar said:Euros over too. All that pub mixing contributed to the rises during late June and July.

A stadium of gammons sounds like the correct collective noun.First.Aspect said:

Just seen someone on the train with a hole cut in their face mask so their nose can more comfortably poke through.0

To be fair so long as they breathe out through their mouth it's not a bad idea - it's all about protecting others after all.kingstongraham said:Just seen someone on the train with a hole cut in their face mask so their nose can more comfortably poke through.

In case anyone is still paying attention to Cummings he’s basically saying Johnson bought into a lot of the rona scepticism and believes a lot of the “misinformation” coming out of telegraph columnists etc, including the “great barrington” stuff0

I don't think he really 'believes' anything in particular, just what suits the moment for his own ends.0 -
Isn’t that obvious from his early stage failure to learn from other countries through to having a break at Xmas.rick_chasey said:In case anyone is still paying attention to Cummings he’s basically saying Johnson bought into a lot of the rona scepticism and believes a lot of the “misinformation” coming out of telegraph columnists etc, including the “great barrington” stuff

Lack of belief, which is how understood BoJo to be, and just being the “mayor who keeps the beaches open” is different to believing the nonsense.surrey_commuter said:

I do wonder what portion of right (and indeed left) wing columns are written sincerely and how many are written to as a "joke" simply try and get a rise.

Consider a different context. If he was told the French were going to invade then he may decide it was overblown rubbish and make no preparations. If he believed it was a viable threat he would attend meetings and do whatever he could to prevent them landing.rick_chasey said:

BJ just doesn't learn even the simplest of lessons.
It's only been a couple of weeks and here we go again.

Meh. Think this time he will ride it out as numbers are going down steadily. It looks like the country can withstand a wave without totally blowing hospital capacity.pblakeney said:BJ just doesn't learn even the simplest of lessons.

Although maybe he'll be kicking himself about a missed opportunity to use himself as a bio weapon against Nicola.0 -
I think he will ride it out but numbers are no longer going down steadily and we are at a mortality rate of 30K per year.Jezyboy said:

So 10k above flu and there will be a large overlap between those groups. Those who think the world is not going to go back to pretty much how it was before are kidding themselves.morstar said:

Never been a Labour voter but Mark Drakeford does come out of this pandemic with a fair bit of kudos.0 -
My first hand experience is that the world definitely is getting back to a normal state. But important to recognise that it is currently 30K deaths on top of 100K+john80 said:

600 ish deaths a week reflects the infection rates weeks ago. Since that has roughly halved, today's infections will correspond to about 300ish a week.
The infections have plateaued a bit because of the 19 July reopening. I have a hunch that they will start to fall a bit faster soon. And then it becomes an interesting policy debate in terms of acceptable ongoing rates.0
